Quick question re. Dawat-us-Salafiyyah
-
Presumably Dawat-us-Salafiyyah = salafi?
If so, I've just read that Dawat-us-Salafiyyah means 'Call of those who preceeded us'.
So to practice like that means to go back and practice how the first generations of Muslims lived.
Well, during those generations weren't there many things done differently from todays practice, like for example, women weren't pushed into the background, expecting to stay at home; they were really part of the community, working, going to the mosque etc.
So, are Salafi's working on living like the first Muslims via the hadith? Is that (as with many things) how it has all gotten so confusing?
Maybe it's me that is confused but I hope you understand my questions.
PS Slightly off this topic....today many Muslim women cover there hair completely with a scarf so that no hair is showing at all. How did the Sahaba manage that? Were there pins back then? I know the safety pin wasn't invented until much later, but did they use straight pins? My guess is that if they did cover their heads they wouldn't have been as strict as we are today, even if just for practical reasons.

'The call of those who proceeded us' would be a right literal translation.
so they claim to practice like first gen muslims yeh? Via hadith is an aspect yes. Salafis tend to criticize the current sheikhs and imams because of their fatwas and "halal- ifications" of things. they believe in following by the source i.e. the sahih hadith + Quran
there might be diff styles of wearing a headcovering, maybe they didnt completely cover their hair/skin? but there are ways to manage without a pin. they might not have been as strict...

That was a generation that has passed away.

For them is what which they had earned, and for you people is only that which you earn.http//haqeeqat.org.pk/English%20Tafsir%20e%20Haqeeqat/00.Arabic%20Text/2.134r.gif
And you people will not be questioned as to the acts they did/performed.2124-141

Thanks for explaining the thing about salafi's and the imams. I didn't know that at all.
I guess the hijab thing would best be answered by an historian. D

Salaam Mazhar. Sometimes you need to spell things out a bit more for me. I won't apologise, it's just how it is.
Are you saying that the quotes mean we don't have to do everything in the way that the generations previously did?

That helps to understand a general principle for conduct in life.
