Peace all,
(all information from the various internet sites)
ACCRODING TO HADITH THE FIRST MOSQUE BUILT WAS MASJID AL HARAM
(who built it and where it was no one knows except Abu Dhar and Bukhari)
Bukhari 485 Narrated Abu Dhar
I said, "O Allah's Apostle! Which mosque was first built on the surface of the earth?" He said, "Al-Masjid-ul-,Haram (in Mecca)." I said, "Which was built next?" He replied "The mosque of Al-Aqsa ( in Jerusalem) ." I said, "What was the period of construction between the two?" He said, "FORTY YEARS." He added, "Wherever (you may be, and) the prayer time becomes due, perform the prayer there, for the best thing is to do so (i.e. to offer the prayers in time)."
ACCORDING TO ISLAMIC TRADITION THE MASJID AL HARAM AND THE KAABAH (BOTH) WERE BUILT BY ABRAHAM
The Masjid al Haram is a mosque in the city of Mecca (or "Makkah"). It is considered by Muslims to be the holiest place on Earth and is the focal point of the hajj pilgrimage required of all
able-bodied Muslims as one of the Five Pillars of Islam.According to ISLAMIC tradition, THE MOSQUE WAS BUILT BY ABRAHAM (Abraham) with the help of his son Ishmael. They were ORDERED BY ALLAH to BUILD the MOSQUE, and the KAABA contained therein is supposed to be a model of the house of God in heaven
MASJID AL HARAM IS NOT A MOSQUE, BUT AN AREA THAT SURROUNDS THE KAABA
The FIRST MOSQUE is the one in Mecca, DEFINED AS THE AREA THAT SURROUNDED THE KAABA, the most holy shrine to Islam. But the model of early mosques, was the courtyard of Muhammad's house in Madina, which was constructed in 622 CE. This was organized with a qibla, which at first faced the direction of Jerusalem. To the left of this qibla, houses for Muhammad's wives, were erected. There were three entrances to the courtyard. An area of the courtyard was roofed, and here prayer was performed. After 1,5 years the direction of the qibla was changed, to face Mecca.
The KAABAH - which is the direction of prayer for all Muslims throughout the world - is SITUATED ROUGHLY IN THE MIDDLE OF AL MASJID AL HARAM. It is a 15-meter high stone structure more or less in the shape of a cube. It was BUILT BY IBRAHIM (peace be upon him) on the command of ALLAH.
THE FIRST MOSQUE BUILT ACCORDING MAHMOOD PASHA IS THE MOSQUE IN YATHRIB
According to the investigations of the late Mahmood Pasha al-Falaki of Egypt, the day when Muhammad Mustafa, the Messenger of God, arrived in QUBA was Monday, 8th of Rabi-I of the year 13 of the Proclamation, a date which corresponds to September 20, 622.
On the following Friday, 12th of Rabi-I (September 24), the Messenger of God left QUBA, and entered YATHRIB. He was lodged at the house of Abu Ayyub, as already noted.
The first act of Muhammad Mustafa, may God bless him and his Ahlul-Bait, upon arrival in YATHRIB, was to BUILD A MOSQUE in which to worship Allah. In front of the house of Abu Ayyub there was a vacant lot, which belonged to two orphans. The Apostle summoned them and their guardians, and told them that he wanted to buy that land. They told him that they would be very happy to make that land a gift to him. But he refused to accept it as a gift, and insisted on paying its price. The eventually agreed to accept payment for their land. Payment was made and ground-breaking was begun immediately.
ACCORDING TO SAUDI ARABIA THE QUBA MOSQUE WAS THE FIRST MOSQUE BUILT IN ISLAMIC HISTORY
The Special Buildings Division is concerned with the design and construction of large residences and residential complexes to a very high standard. SBG is closely associated with the most complex and prestigious construction project ever undertaken, namely the project of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud for the extension of the Holy Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet's Holy Mosque in Madinah. Apart from this unique project, SBG has made major contributions to a vast number of mosques, both in the Kingdom and abroad. Guided by the spiritual and cultural aspects of mosque architecture, SBG harmoniously synthesized traditional Islamic styles and modern building techniques. In the case of the King Saud Mosque in Jeddah, traditional design was combined with traditional building methods. Except for the concrete
foundations the mosque is built entirely of bricks. The main dome, twenty meters high, is one of the largest freestanding brick domes in the world. The QUBA MOSQUE, the FIRST MOSQUE built in ISLAMIC HISTORY, has been rebuilt to accommodate 20,000 worshippers. Covering an an area of 3,500 square meters, it has seven entrances, a 47 meter high minaret at every corner and a total of 62 domes.
ACCORDING TO ISLAMIC ENCYCLOPAEDIA THE QUBA MOSQUE WAS THE FIRST MOSQUE THAT WAS EVER BUILT.
The QUBA MOSQUE (Quba' Masjid or Masjid al-Quba) just outside Medina, Saudi Arabia, is the FIRST ISLAMIC MOSQUE that was EVER BUILT. Its first stones were positioned by the prophet Muhammad on hijrah (journey) from the city of Mecca ("Makkah") to Medina and the masjid was completed by his companions.

In addition, if this verse is understood in the traditional manner
1821 And like that We made known about them that they might know that God's promise is true and that the Hour there is no doubt in it. When they disputed amongst themselves about their issue, so said "Build over/upon them a building". Their Lord knows best about them. Those who prevailed on their issue said "Surely we will take (to ourselves) over/upon them a maSJD."
