As an adult convert to Islam...

        Dear Magnus,

I have to notice that, actually there is no such thing like "converting to Islam" in Qur'an. God is calling us to "submit" Himself against to the all untruthful religions/doctrines. God has created all of us within the same doctrine.

Set thou thy face then, as a true convert, towards the Faith which God hath made, and for which He hath made man. No change is there in the creation of God. This is the right Faith, but the greater part of men know it not.

        Regards

          Dear Magnus,

Fair point. What I meant with "converting to Islam" was my erroneous acceptance of sunni-ism. I guess I thought that it was the only alternative out there for someone believing in one God and many prophets, Jesus being one of them, which is all I was certain about at that point. I hadn't even fully accepted the Qur'an as God's word back then, but I said their shahada anyway as it seemed like the thing to do at the time.

It's been a long hard journey full of false steps to get to where I am now. Two steps forward and one step back, rinse and repeat... More truth and less falsehood seems to be the trend though, and I think I'm learning through my mistakes, may God forgive me.

Finally having the courage to go where my heart and mind wants to go - to complete submission to God and His truth regardless of where this leads, not trying to influence the answers to my questions - this is the real "reversion" to the natural mental state in which Man should live, I think. It certainly feels that way.

It seems you got the point already.

            Peace upon you.

I certainly hope so - it's been a long time coming.
Making concentrated efforts to reach this state of mind have become the highlights of my day, praise God.

As an adult convert to Islam, I always had doubts. Finding this and similar sites made me realize wherein the doubts lay - not in God or the Qur'an, but in hadith, the "science" of their authenticity, and in the infallability of old scholars.
My renouncing the lies was delayed by my own weakness. The fallacious appeals to authority and majority kept me in the fold for too long. However, the truth will not be denied, it would seem.

                      salaam all!

The time since I became active here has been good. I praise God for everything He has bestowed upon me. God gives generously in His mercy.
Through this site I found friends in real life, if you pardon the expression.
For me the community has been a learning experience, and God willing I think I learn faster now than when I was alone.
I came in from the cold, used to feeling alone, and I found true siblinghood.

The believers are the true human beings, and being in their company is paramount for a balanced life. Internet communication is fantastic, and it can unite us, but it is a poor replacement for face-to-face interaction. The written word can be both powerful and precise, even sublime - let's not forget the Qur'an- but I find most people, myself included, communicate best with voice and gestures, and listening, and watching. I have had to learn communication, for I had never before talked to real people about real things.

My brothers and sisters help me. They teach me, they keep me grounded, they keep me humble. I live in the company of giants in a world of liliputs. We help each other in any way we can. We all try to learn from the Quran, and each other, and through Guidance.

I pray all of you lonely muslims out there will one day know what it is like to live in the company of other believers. I pray I can one day live together with many more believers than the much cherished handful I spend time with now.

                      group

God is in control of all things.
