People can criticise without being a follower, it's called research with logical arguments. At university people study things they don't necessarily agree with they can still come up with a logical, coherent argument.
So I disagree with your conclusion.

He rightly does this, all the well known scholars do that, for example Maulana Maududi, Javed Ghamidi, Amin Islahi and many others..

I said who accept and did not said who follow, there is a difference.
But before arriving at any conclusion or developing any argument they study the Subject in detail, without accepting it for your studies you cannot criticize it. Most of those who reject Hadith have not even studied it, they just think that any thing not from Quran has ZERO credibility. In fact these sources are very good tools to understand the Quran.So I disagree with your conclusion.

Raaajah, most people reject/ hadith/sunnah/sirah as a source of law. btw in what way do you mean sunnah? do you mean it in a different sense of hadith? also sirah and hadith were compiled in different ways.

I found that book by Fazlur Rahman on the internet, a couple of months ago, and have wanted to buy it since then. Now i can get it for free. Nice.
