Are the constitutions obligatory ?

Have you ever heard of Lysander Spooner?
This man claimed that US consitution (and other constitutions as well) is not obligatory to anyone to follow and that it is a document of no legal value...some of his arguments are really compelling.... however i wonder if his argumentation is absolutely valid/correct.
