    Random thoughts...

State elections are up and it made me think.. the 2 dominant parties are just as similar as each other and i?m pretty much ignorant about what i?m really voting for. So many campaigns are out there to sell themselves off.. but really what is happening? How well informed are people about each party?

So if they?re just as bad and other parties won?t go to any (or much) positive avail. why not just donkey vote it? Then the thoughts creep in... pick the idiot you know (in power/position now) than the idiot you don?t. Might agree here and there but hey better than having someone new. Or maybe someone new will give a positive change. So why waste a vote?

Ultimately none of them are mumins or known to be. So then the spiritual thoughts come into the equation. Are we taking kafireen as protectors/awliya over mumins? i.e. we put them in that position to look after our state welfare/affairs. If more people put in an empty ballet, improper vote or donkey votes doesn?t that affect the ballet? Would it shatter the system if more people did it?

It?s not about shattering the system but is there ever a way for all people?s communities/ideologies to be accepted or voted for? Or to be known? Other than joining a party maybe there isn?t any other way?

Would you vote for a party that doesn?t agree to your ideology? Should we just vote for the different choices that are available to us? Is freedom true when you can only select whatever choices are on offer? If we could produce other choices maybe it would be too chaotic.

So i guess enough rambling what do you think of voting?

    Peace

Yeah, the N.S.W. state election is on Saturday 26/03/2011, the result though appears to be a forgone conclusion. All the public opinion polls showed that the incumbent governing party will be decimated by The Liberal/National Coalition, and the official results will be be known early in the evening. There is no real fundamental differences between Labor and Liberal anymore, both parties are right wings "Neo-Liberals" in their policies, the alternative is to vote for The Green or Independents .

As to how well informed the voters are about the parties contesting this election, I would say that, they are very well informed judging by their voting intentions shown through the various polls conducted by different media organisations . Usually, these polls are good guide and indicators as to the voters voting intentions, which we could conclude that generally the voters' political awareness are pretty good.

As you may know, voting in any government elections in Oz is a privilege afforded to the citizens only, who are aged 18 years or more and enrolled to vote with the Electoral Commission, so it is not an automatic right for all adult residents. If you do not exercise your privilege to vote, then you are wasting your chance to influence the outcome of the election. Every valid vote counts and it helps determine who is going to represent the electorate that you live in, unless of course the electorate that you reside in happened to be a safe Liberal, Labor or an established independent seat.

Everyone should value their vote highly, as it is their only chance to have a say in who is representing them in the state government or which party is going to govern them for the next three to four years . If you vote informal or leave your ballot paper blank it is a wasted vote . So before you decide to vote informal which is just like abstaining, just think of those poor people in Egypt, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Yemen etc. They would give their limbs or even risk their lives just to have a say in who or what party that will be governing them . Personally, I would vote for the Premier 100x if I could ;D

I recommend the "lesser of two evils" approach.

        13 questions in one post.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

          Greetings and Peace, all group

Voting is a good thing, insofar as it increases available options.

If you don't like the options, make some! Possibilities may include running for office, or voting for third party candidates.

Personally, I believe that once a third party reaches a certain percentage/tipping point, people will perceive that third party votes are no longer "wasted." To get to this point, it is necessary to vote third party (for qualified candidates).

Main parties make concessions in order to gain third party votes. Red may never vote blue--and vice-versa, but any other "color" is up for grabs. The main parties compete over third party votes, and voters win.

Vote as if your vote was the single deciding vote. Which is the better candidate than the rest--or failing that, who is not as bad as the other candidates? In national politics, I don't vote for hawks.

What issues are important to you? Economy? Diplomacy? War? Second Amendment/gun control? Taxes? Pro-life/Pro-choice? Charisma? Experience? Idealism/pragmatism?

Would you rather vote for a muslim candidate that didn't share your political values, or for an atheist candidate that did share your political values? hmm

          peace

Voting is a privilege that many take for granted.

Even if you hate the candidates, make your voice heard - write-ins are still an option.

sure voting is a good thing esp if it represents the values you hold

Abdul hadi are political values same as ethical values? I dunno.

i'd stick to the group i'm more inline with.

the lesser of the 2 evils, good one. yes i ask a lot of questions.. typical of me. it's to promote thought, discussion, ideas. not all questions have answers not all answers are complete. it's just my brain bouncing ideas.

I think that political values are close to ethical values. If memory serves, anything involving the interaction of two or more people is political in a literal sense--"the total complex of relations between persons living in society." Ethics/ethical values may or may not involve nonself.

I'd also vote for the person most in line with my values.

All questions have answers...but the answer or answers (especially if correct) may not be immediately evidenced.

Then again, are all questions necessary? <puts on shades> This is not the question you are looking for... jedi

                peace
