Punishment in hereafter for not performing salaat
-
"What brought you to this retribution?"
They will say, "We did not observe the contact prayers (Salat).
"We did not feed the poor.
"We blundered with the blunderers.
"We disbelieved in the Day of Judgment.
"Until certainty came to us now."
Hello,
I believe that this part of the sura is saying that the people who end up in hell will regret and wish that they had performed the salat so that they would not commit sins like not feeding the poor etc. I don't think that the Lord of the Universe would create such a system that there is severe punhishment JUST for not observing the salat.
I believe that God gave the human race the salat to HELP them stay on the straight path, i.e. to HELP them not do wrong things like steal, backbite, opress etc.
Also, in my opinion, the salat must be a set of instructions to be carried out. I believe God gave Abraham the best method of nourishing his soul (i.e. gaining energy to do good deeds) by giving him the salat
"My Lord, make me one who consistently observes the Contact Prayers (Salat), and also my children. Our Lord, please answer my prayers.
The Quran also says that some generations lost the salat in 1959. This convinces me more that the salat was a practical (mental state is also important-1074,5) set of instructions and that it was passed down from generation to generation. However I believe that God corrected the big additions that the corrupters made to the salat (like mentioning Muhammad) in the Quran.
Peace

Sorry i do use cross referencing, but may be not your type of grammar.
Grammar of the quran..........

confused
Please state exactly where you used cross referencing of words in the translation you provided of 56, especially of the words you translated unconventionally.
Secondly, there is a difference between The Quran having it's own style of grammar, or loose grammar rules due to it being a verbal revelation, and not paying attention to grammar at all. The fact is you have no clue about Quranic grammar, thus pay no attention to it when translating.
Also, thanks for linking to that thread. I recommend anyone who wishes to read your posts, also to read that thread

salam,
the quran is not just about translating, the whole point of the aya is not what they are or not doing but the fact that anyone who does not do salat is bound to do wrong wether it be not giving the poor or killing its not how big or small the sin its the fact they disobeyed, if they do not wish to pray because they dont believe, then what is to stop them from doing any wrong, nothing. when god talks about mo2minin or musaleen he is not talking about the everyday person who prays then beats his wife or the person who will go and have a girlfriend but not married but he still prays. he is talking about the true mo2minin the true mosaleen those who are true to god. prayer is important it keeps us from thinkning and doing wrong, when prayer time comes we wont go doing something bad just before and then go stand infront of him . we will think twice of doing such things.KNOWING we are going to stand in front of him in prayer.Salam Sister
Welcome and well said.
God bless -
Peace Truthseeker11,
What does al 3amal al ssali7 mean in English? Can you please give me a better translation than the one I used which is 'service to mankind'. Salaat is al 3amal al ssali7. In priority, according to al Quran, it comes in third place after the iman billah and then judgment day. Salaat is, simply, service to mankind, one's self included. Service to mankind has no limit and it includes, naturally, the things you mentioned feeding the poor, not participating with those who speak falsehood, and of course all the things that cannot possibly hurt anyone but instead help whoever is in need, etc.. That is what al 3amal al ssali7 is. That is what service to mankind is. Shouldn't al 3amal al ssali7 or service to mankind be our goal in life? How else will any progress happen? If what they are doing five times or three times a day is what salat is then why on earth are the "muslims" moving backwards among other nations!!?? Not to mention that their understanding of salat is not at all preventing them from commiting al fa7sha'a and al munkar!!??peace
salam,
im still confused as to "service to mankind" a policeman, government personal, a bar tender, prostitute maybe thats a huge service to mankind.
3amil lsali7 or in english a good deed, lets see, a lady walking down the street she falls to the ground, i come to help her ........but wait i have todo wuduu2 first must prepare for the service of mankind.
muslims moving backwards, which muslims are you talking about, if we are moving backward is because they are NOT muslims, they are hypocrites, you have shifted to politics, no religion in politics. -
peace anna,
The Quran mentions the word "salat" and it's root (Saad-Lam-Waw) about 100 times. There is loads and loads and loads of information about "salat" in The Quran. I recommend studying it's occurrences and apply what you learn as you go.
I recommend www.studyquran.org

thank you for the link, but sila, to me means connection and every human may connect to god in anyway they see fit for themselves, and that i respect, even though i personally do my five prayers, this is the way i prefer it, but for someone to come and tell me that the word salat in the quran means a service to mankind, brickwall it has absolutely nothing to do with anything, service to mankind???????...... it least say service to god, wouldnt it be more proper that way. -
Assalaam Alaikum
On the Day of Qiyamah / Judgement we will be asked did we verify and confirm our practice, did we adhere to the guidance.
So he did not verify it / saddaqa and did not SALLA / PRAY.
saddaqa means to attest, certify, substantiate, speak truth, be sincere, prove to be true, firm intention, believe and trust ; Hans Wehr Arabic English Dictionary page 594-595 (sadaqa)
But on the contrary, he rejected / kaththaba Truth and turned away!
kaththaba to lie, to fabricate, say what is NOT a fact, falsely invent, tell lies about or against, fabricate a lie, say a falsehood, be wrong, deceive, delude; Hans Wehr Arabic English Dictionary page 957-958 (kadaba)
Then did he stalk to his family / thahaba ila ahlihi in full conceit / Yatamatta!
thahaba leave, disappear, vanish, follow another teaching, embrace another practice, adopt another policy, follow different orientation, to be futile, to be vain, to ignore, omit, one?s own opinion
Hans Wehr Arabic English Dictionary page 361-362 (dahaba)Ahli 3RD PERSON, MASCULINE, SINGULAR meaning family, people belonging to that orientation, that community;Root word Ahala to marry, to render anyone worthy or acceptable, ADHERANTS, FOLLOWERS, MEMBERS OF A RELIGIOUS MOVEMENT OR PRACTICE (i.e. Sunnah & Hadith Followers, etc.) Hans Wehr Arabic English Dictionary page 41-42 (AHALA)
Yatamatta means stiffness, harshness, stubbornness, conceit
Woe to you, (O men!), you, woe!
Again, Woe to you, (O men!), you, woe!
Does man think that he will be left uncontrolled, (withoutpurpose)? -
