Salaams idolfree,
Muhammad
3144,3340,472,4829.And Ahmad
616From the context of all these it seems to me you are mistaken, show me where to you it seems other then a name.Thanks.

Peace be upon you MZ,
(3144) And "muhammadun" is not except a messenger, had passed/expired from before him the messengers, so if he died, or (he was) killed, you turned/returned on your heels , and whom turns/returns, on his two heels, so he will never/not harm The God, a thing, and The God will reward the thankful/grateful.
How was this man named Muhammad Ibn Abdullah suppossed to understand the above verse? Who was "muhammadun" to him?
The God says that the appreciating one is only one who spreads the message (rasool), and that there were messengers before him that passed away, so if this messenger dies or is killed, will you turn back from the message?
(3340) "muhammadun" is not a father (to) anyone from your men, and but the God's messenger, and the prophets' seal, and The God is with every thing knowledgeable.
How was Muhammad Ibn Abdullah suppossed to understand the above verse?
It says to me that none of your fathers is an appreciator except the one who spreads the message and is the prophets seal.
(472) And those who believed and made/did the correct/righteous deeds, and believed with what was descended on "muhammadin", and it is the truth from their Lord, He covered/substituted from them their sins/crimes, and He corrected/repaired their condition
How was Muhammad Ibn Abdullah to understand the above verse?
The God descends upon the appreciators the truth, for example, there are many truths descending to people on this forum, the answer is always out there, but some of us like yourself have the answers CLICK in your mind after studying and pondering. One who studies and ponders like Abraham, is appreciative, and the God descends the information while we are in the learning process(salaat).
(4829) "muhammadun" (is) The God's messenger, and those who with him (are) strong over the disbelievers, merciful between them, you see them bowing, prostrating wishing/desiring grace/favour from The God, and an acceptance/approval , their marks/identifications/expressions (are) in their faces/fronts from the prostration's trace/sign , that (is) their example in the torah, and their example in the injeel , as/like a plant/crop, it brought out/emerged its sprout/shoot , so it surrounded and strengthened it, so it hardened/thickened , so it straightened/leveled on its stem, it pleases/marvels the sowers/seeders/planters to anger/enrage with it the disbelievers, The God promised those who believed and made/did the correct/righteous deeds from them, forgiveness and a great reward
How was Muhammad Ibn Abdullah suppossed to understand this verse?
The appreciator and those with him are ...
Lastly,
(616) And when Jesus Mary's son said "You Israel's sons and daughters, that I am The God's messenger to you, confirming to what (is) between my hands from the torah, and an announcer of good news with a messenger (that) comes from after me, his name (description) (is) "ahmadu" ." So when he came to them with the evidences, they said "That (is) clear/evident magic/sorcery."How was Muhammad Ibn Abdullah suppossed to understand this verse? Who was "ahmadu" to him?

Salaams idolfree,
are you saying that Ahmed is not a name either? -
peace all
dear idol free
your observations and reading is excellent.
I will ponder over these verses and it needs more attention.
There is logic in your understanding
thanks
-
Salaams idolfree,
are you confused with the ending of the word in quistion?other such names are prevalent throughout the quran,i think.
Shuaib
2936 Shuaibun,
2926 Loutun,
2928 loutan,
1559 loutin,see also 149
1150 Huddan they are everywhere ,can you say none are names?
If you are still persistant with your claim, and are saying Muhammad is not a name of a messenger, then inshaallah we will look into it more,if you like.
God Bless.

Peace Wakas all,
Could you give us the possible root meanings of the word Kh. T. M (from Lane)

Salaam Joe,
Salaam Marie
khatam alnabiyyin probably means 'imprint of the informers'.
Joe
It is a possibility regarding "Khitamuhu miskun" in 83 26, but I think in it there is other meanings.
"Khitamuhu miskun" is translated as "leaving a rear taste of musc" / "26. Its seal will be of musk, " / "The seal of it is musk"What do you think about these verses where the verb "Khatama" is used 27, 6 46, 45 23?
This Day, I have perfected your DEEN for you, completed My favor upon you, and chosen for you Islam as the System of Life. (53)

Salam Joe,
Salaam Marie
Many questions can be raised on this issue and I'm sure the answers can be found. For example, in ayat 4523 this 'seal', as we happen to have it, need not be permanent for people do change. As I said before, a seal may be lifted.
Joe
Could you clarify the connection between "a seal may be lifted" and Mohammad is Khaatam of the prophets or informers if you prefer?
Thanks
Marie
-
Salaam Marie
Insofar as I can tell 'seal' is a defining injunction. This is a connection between the 2 that I make.
Joe
Thanks for your understanding. Regarding the verb "Khatama" in 27, 6 46, 45 23, how do you translate "khaatama" 3340 otherwise that "imprint"?
Many questions can be raised on this issue
Can you tell me more
Thanks
Peace

Salaam Marie
how do you translate 3340?
'muhammadun' (the appreciate?) was not an innovator (to) anyone amongst your treaders, but the God's envoy, and imprint of the informers, and the God is with every thing aware (3340)
Can you tell me more
What is a seal? Can a seal be popped, taken off and replaced, etc. Could it be a stamp or a mark?

In the light of the context, I can see the notion of "imprint" neither in 27, 6 46, 45 23 nor in 3340.
3340 has the same structure than 367, 179
367 Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was an upright man who had surrendered to Allah. He never ascribed divinity to anyone beside One True God.

In 379, Allah speaks about all humman chosen by Allah and were given Scripture and the authority and the prophethood.
379It is not for a human that God would give him the Scripture and the authority and the prophethood, then he would say to the people ?Be servants to me rather than God!?, rather ?Be devotees for what you have been taught of the Scripture, and for what you studied.?

Mohammad is the Closing Seal of all Prophets, not of some prophets.
"alnnabiyyeena" doesn't means some prophets. The quran is universal message, do we need other prophet?

I should not expect many people to see such things.

Well, yes, but the ayat are expressly different in the revelations in them.
Allah has blessed Mohammad with the Scripture, Wisdom and Prophethood through the quran.
I would not say that God blessed a man named Mohammad with scripture or prophethood even. I do not believe alkitab is the scripture, but rather the decree. I do not ascribe to nabuwwat as 'prophethood'. The rendering of the word is so much constricted in that translation.
The quran was delivered definitively to humankind by the prophet Mohammad and we are told to be be devotees for what we have been taught of the Scripture, and for what we studied.
No, sorry, it is not said in alquran, 'prophet Mohammad'. Yes, we are to uphold the statutes of the din.
Mohammad is the Closing Seal of all Prophets, not of some prophets.
"alnnabiyyeena" doesn't means some prophets.I'm not sure if I said 'some prophets', but I do not agree with you that there is a closing seal mentioned in that ayat.
The quran is universal message, do we need other prophet?
The message lending guidance toward salvation and pointing out the criterion is the same always correct? If it is ever universal and the same from nabi to nabi I would ask you why not just one nabi to begin with? I'm not sure if I could say we needed any prophets.

Peace YOU all,
Chapter 33 must be entirely read to understand correctly the verse 3340 according the context of the chapter. Allah speaks about the prophet since the first verse
331 O Prophet! Be mindful of Allah and heed not the deniers of the Truth and the hypocrites. Verily, Allah is Knower, Wise.
See also 336-7, 13, 28, 32, 38, 40, 45, 50, 53, 56, 59.
This is my understanding of ?Ma kana muhammadun abaahadin min rijalikum / Muhammad is not the father of any man among you? in 3340, this part is connected to the following verses
Nor does He regard your adopted sons as your biological sons (334)
3337 Behold, (O Prophet) you did tell the one to whom Allah had shown Favor and to whom you had shown favor, ?Hold on to your wife and be mindful of Allah. You seek to conceal in your heart what Allah intends to reveal. You are afraid of people whereas it is more appropriate to fear Allah.? But when Zayd had observed all the rules and divorced her, We gave her to you in marriage. So that henceforth there may be no blame on the believers in respect of spouses of their adopted children when they have come to the dissolution of their union. And the Commandment of Allah must be fulfilled. (Contrary to many erroneous translations, the entire quote in this verse is addressed to Zayd since Messengers fear none but Allah (3339). Also the admonition of the Prophet to Zayd clearly indicates that he, and not his wife, was at fault).
3338 There can be no difficulty to the Prophet in what Allah has assigned unto him as a duty. That was Allah?s Law for those who passed on before (the previous prophets). And the Command of Allah is a well-determined Decree.
3340 Muhammad is not the father of any man among you, but he is Allah?s Messenger and the Closing Seal of all Prophets. And Allah, indeed, is Knower of all things.
Allah speak about Muhammad in the same way than Abraham in 367. Neither Muhammad nor Abraham is a generic term but two individual persons in contrast with 379, 3161.
This is just my view
Allah knows best

Peace be upon you MZ,
are you saying that Ahmed is not a name either?
According to tradition, "ahmadu" is taught to mean "whose name will be praised", not a name. They take 'muhammadun" as the name.
I am saying that neither one of those words are names, they are just different forms of the same word.
I see it something like this
"hamd" = appreciation
"ahmadu" = appreciated
"muhammadun" = appreciator (one who appreciates)
-
Peace be upon you,
(2151) As We sent in you( feekum) a messenger from you, he reads/recites on you Our signs and he purifies you and he teaches you "the unfolding book of life"(al kitaab) and the wisdom, and he teaches you what you were not knowing.
How was "ahmadu/muhammadun" to understand this verse?
-
Salaam Marie,
I think we can get a little over innovative in such an analysis that you made. It has indeed brought forth a theme, regarding the nabi, but connecting 334 to 3337-40 does not seem to account for the belief that 'muhammad' would have had no biological children. One can have adopted children and biological children at the same time. I'm sure the nabi, being a man of high moral, would adopt a needy child. What do you think about this?
Joe
-
Salaam Marie,
I'm not sure if any of the names are truly proper nouns. Even the 'proper' name of the sustainer/rabb means 'the One and Only' which is a trait applicable only to that being being as It is. I'm not sure about 'zayd' though, could be something related to adding or increasing.
