    Salam, Peace to all,

When reading a post about hijab I was questionning myself about what body parts needs to be covered.

Then I remembered the story about Adam and his partner eating from the tree and sudenly their nudity (shame saw'a) appeared to them. What they did is dress themselve with "leaves" (=waraqa aljana) on their private parts. To remember the situation, here are the verses, Ysusf Ali translation

    720
Then began satan to whisper suggestions to them, in order to reveal to them their shame (saw'a) that was hidden from them (before) he said "Your Lord only forbade you this tree lest ye should become angels or such beings as live forever."

    721
And he swore to them both, that he was their sincere adviser

    722
So by deceit he brought about their fall when they tasted of the tree, their shame became manifest to them, and they began to sew together the leaves of the Garden over their bodies. And their Lord called unto them "Did I not forbid you that tree and tell you that satan was an avowed enemy unto you?"

    723
They said "our Lord! we have wronged our own souls if Thou forgive us not and bestow not upon us Thy Mercy we shall certainly be lost."

    724
(Allah) said "Get ye down, with enmity between yourselves. On earth will be your dwelling-place and your means of livelihood for a time."

    725
He said "therein shall ye live and therein shall ye die; but from it shall ye be taken out (at last)."

    726
O ye children of Adam! We have bestowed raiment upon you to cover your shame, as well as to be an adornment to you, But the raiment of righteousness, that is the best. Such are among the signs of Allah, that they may receive admonition!

    727
O ye Children of Adam! let not satan seduce you in the same manner as he got your parents out of the Garden, stripping them of their raiment, to expose their shame for he and his tribe watch you from a position where ye cannot see them We made the Evil ones friends (only) to those without Faith.

    728
When they do aught that is shameful, they say "We found our fathers doing so"; and "Allah commanded us thus" say "Nay, Allah never commands what is shameful do ye say of Allah what ye know not?"

    729
Say "My Lord hath commanded justice; and that ye set your whole selves (to Him) at every time and place of prayer, and call upon Him, making your devotion sincere as in his sight such as he created you in the beginning, so shall ye return."

So the question that rise from this story is, does "saw'a" means also "womens hair"?

In fact when I started studying more deeply the above verses I came to a totaly diffrent understanding!!!

saw'a means something shameful but it could be an act aswell and not a body part.
In 722 Yusuf Ali translated "So by deceit he brought about their fall when they tasted of the tree, their shame became manifest to them, and they began to sew together the leaves of the Garden over their bodies. And their Lord called unto them "Did I not forbid you that tree and tell you that satan was an avowed enemy unto you?"

while in the original text we have

They began to hide/make disapear on them with/of leave of the Garden.

    other translations
Sahih International So he made them fall, through deception. And when they tasted of the tree, their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten together over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And their Lord called to them, "Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you that Satan is to you a clear enemy?"

Pickthall Thus did he lead them on with guile. And when they tasted of the tree their shame was manifest to them and they began to hide (by heaping) on themselves some of the leaves of the Garden. And their Lord called them, (saying) Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you Lo! Satan is an open enemy to you?

Yusuf Ali So by deceit he brought about their fall when they tasted of the tree, their shame became manifest to them, and they began to sew together the leaves of the garden over their bodies. And their Lord called unto them "Did I not forbid you that tree, and tell you that Satan was an avowed enemy unto you?"

Shakir Then he caused them to fall by deceit; so when they tasted of the tree, their evil inclinations became manifest to them, and they both began to cover themselves with the leaves of the garden; and their Lord called out to them Did I not forbid you both from that tree and say to you that the Shaitan is your open enemy?

Muhammad Sarwar Thus, he deceitfully showed them (the tree). When they had tasted (fruits) from the tree, their private parts became revealed to them and they began to cover their private parts with leaves from the garden. Their Lord then called out to them saying, "Did I not forbid you to eat (fruits) from the tree and tell you that Satan was your sworn enemy?"

Mohsin Khan So he misled them with deception. Then when they tasted of the tree, that which was hidden from them of their shame (private parts) became manifest to them and they began to stick together the leaves of Paradise over themselves (in order to cover their shame). And their Lord called out to them (saying) "Did I not forbid you that tree and tell you Verily, Shaitan (Satan) is an open enemy unto you?"

Arberry So he led them on by delusion; and when they tasted the tree, their shameful parts revealed to them, so they took to stitching upon themselves leaves of the Garden. And their Lord called to them, 'Did not I prohibit you from this tree, and say to you, "Verily Satan is for you a manifest foe"?'

    The answer is in 726

O ye children of Adam! We have bestowed raiment upon you to cover your shame, as well as to be an adornment to you, But the raiment of righteousness, that is the best. Such are among the signs of Allah, that they may receive admonition!

Libass= in the context of the verse is taqwa
so are the leave of Jana a garment against shamful deeds.

This why in 727 whe have The God advising us

O ye Children of Adam! let not satan seduce you in the same manner as he got your parents out of the Garden, stripping them of their raiment, to expose their shame for he and his tribe watch you from a position where ye cannot see them We made the Evil ones friends (only) to those without Faith.

to better clarify 7-19 to 7-30 is not about "private/shame" body parts, neither about "clothes/garnment" but about saw'a=shamful deeds and protection against it "libass=taqwa/faith/believe".

          Peace Loxbox,

Thanks for your input but it lakes some arguments.

Libass is well known word and means garment, cloth maybe to a certain extend could also mean "a protection", what I meant here is the figurative meaning of it. In the Quran you can find many verses using LIBASS as an image e.g. in 7810

          { }
Sahih International (7810) And made the night as clothing

Again in my post I stated the following

Libass= in the context of the verse 726 is taqwa

Now your understanding as SAFETY cannot be verified because it just does not fit in many verses as for example here

          { }
Sahih International (16112) And Allah presents an example a city which was safe and secure, its provision coming to it in abundance from every location, but it denied the favors of Allah. So Allah made it taste the envelopment of hunger and fear for what they had been doing.

          Peace

In that context, Libess could be Safety
but Libess in general, is ( ambiance / aura / environment )

            Cloths = Kiswa

And the man for whom the child is born is responsible for both their provisions and clothing equitably. 2233

And do not give the immature ones your money for which God has made you overseers, and spend on them from it and clothe them, and speak to them in goodness. 45

there is also the word Reechan , this word doesn't mean feather, but it's the origin word , for english/frensh/spanish word RICH , the proof that the word reech isn't feather, here is 2 verses

O Children of Adam, We have sent down for you garments to alleviate your bodies, and reechan... 726

..and We destroyed what Pharaoh and his people were doing, and what they contrived 7137

And your Lord inspired to the bees You shall take homes of the mountains and of the trees and of what they erect... 1668

Therefore Reechan is litterally Rich , it is a synonym of Aarch , wealth.

As for LIBASS, is more synonym of ( Environement / ambiance / aura ) and Taqwa, comes from the word , Quwa , be( strong/fort/ potent ). for Allah.

this is a quick reply of what I'm thinking about right now.
Am not really convinced that Libass means Cloths or anything to do with garments.

The key word here is Righteousness (Taqwa)
What does Satan do as an enemy?
To make us aware of our private parts and causes us shame?
What is the core command here?
Why are we told this example or this event?
Does it mean that initially God, created us naked and unaware of it?
The example here is about not obeying God, isn't it?
The pair were told not to approach the tree.
Is the tree meant to be a real tree or does it represent something else, like evil deeds, and what are they?

Everyone who does an evil deed knows exactly that it is so, just remember that in this case the Pair were warned about it beforehand.
And as a result they know that it not something that God would like.
Finally, what would you feel when you do something knowing that it is a bad one?
Will that make you realise that you're naked or something else?

it's not about a tree , it's about fire worship
                He burned himself .

Shajar has different meanings in the quran.
ex surah 465 , shajara means fight or problem
Shajar =is tasted "DHAKA" , this word "DHAKA" is only used for Fire punihsement
1760 Shajar is in the core of Hell
3680 Shajar green , is a source of fire
5672 , every source of fire, is called shajar , be it a tree, or oil or petrol etc... fire has shajar. maybe il means a park
I understand , the best translation is of the word Shajar "SOURCE" and not a tree except when speaking of Garden, the trees are the source of a garden.

I believe Adam played with Fire, it's always been about fire worship and Energy
exemple, Abraham was put into fire
Moses was worshiping fire looking for guidance .

Today, fire worship is the biggest religion in the world , Illuminati ' ilu minati = elect of manet ' a,d not enlightened. olympic games they celebrate the holy fire that never turns off , every 4 years, and the worship of all is wars for energy , Oil, gaz etc...

never a prophet was sent for statues worship, it's always fire, the reason they worship stars and the saun, is because of fire worship.

Adam must have had the same problem, he approached fire , and get burned, that is why he healed himself with Herbs.

The Shajar = source or ressource, and the fight over Shajar is still going on now, naturel ressources etc... until the end, Iblees favorite Arm, to the point of , he made people worship fire.

About Libess, it means SPIRIT , not as spirte soul etc... but spirit as ambiance or good moods or aura etc...
it is clear that cloths in the quran is called Kiswa, and in the street of Algeria , they call coths KISWA. the word costume , frensh for suit comes from the word Kiswa.
                Allah knows best.
