    Salam.

Sahih International (5110) when Allah will say, "O Jesus, Son of Mary, remember My favor upon you and upon your mother when I supported you with the Pure Spirit and you spoke to the people in the cradle and in maturity; and when I taught you writing and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel; and when you designed from clay like the form of a bird with My permission, then you breathed into it, and it became a bird with My permission; and you healed the blind and the leper with My permission; and when you brought forth the dead with My permission; and when I restrained the Children of Israel from you when you came to them with clear proofs and those who disbelieved among them said, "This is not but obvious magic."

Sahih International (16102) Say, , "The Pure Spirit has brought it down from your Lord in truth to make firm those who believe and as guidance and good tidings to the Muslims."

Sahih International (287) And We did certainly give Moses the Torah and followed up after him with messengers. And We gave Jesus, the son of Mary, clear proofs and supported him with the Pure Spirit. But is it that every time a messenger came to you, , with what your souls did not desire, you were arrogant? And a party you denied and another party you killed.

Any ideas on what this Spirit is? its not an angel...its an entity on its own, which God sends to guide people and strengthen prophets...interestingly in the last quranic verse i posted indicates that this Spirit supported Jesus, but not Moses. There has been a lot of mention of the word "Ruh" in regards to Jesus and Mary..I did come across a couple verses where other prophets and believers have been said to be strengthened and guided by the Spirit, but its intriguing why God says WE gave Moses the Torah and Jesus was supported by the Pure Spirit. So any ideas on what this is? Is it in any ways similiar to the Biblical Holy Spirit which they consider a third of the trinity? I believe it works in a similiar fashion in both the quran and the bible. Although the quran indicates it as a separate entity, like the angels and not exactly a part of God

Sahih International (704) The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years.

Sahih International (783 The Day that the Spirit and the angels will stand in rows, they will not speak except for one whom the Most Merciful permits, and he will say what is correct.

Sahih International (974) The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter.

However in these verses God says "My soul"...is this Pure Spirit His soul....this would make sense in the biblical context, but not exactly in the quranic one..
Sahih International (329) Then He proportioned him and breathed into him from His soul and made for you hearing and vision and hearts; little are you grateful.
Sahih International (3872) So when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My soul, then fall down to him in prostration."

In conclusion I guess im confused with regards to what this Spirit is in context of the quran..its not angel Gabriel..or any angel for that matter...its used a lot for Mary and Jesus, and its intriguingly similiar to the Holy Spirit in the bible.

    Any input would be great

In terms of grammatical gender associations peculiar to Abrahamic faiths, spirit is considered feminine in nature.

I have seen a rewrite of Isa's words in which "he" is replaced with "she" in reference to the Holy Spirit.
One way to think of it is ...as spirit being like thought, the precursor to words, which are more "solid" or "manifest", in a sense. In the way that waking reality is much intertwined with dreams.

I don't think any one culture holds claim to the definition, however.
It's a way to see it. A way to express something with dignity and respect.

Al Lah ...the Lah ....the Creator or "Deity".....is given a male gender in these writings, but it isn't because God is a man.

That is simply the surface of "it".

In fact, in the very first Christian writings, contemporary with the ones which inspired those references to Isa in the Quran, there is reference to Sophia. A sort of supreme Mother of Creation.

The original Judaic Christians were opposed to the Laws installed by the patriarch and thought to oppose it through a sort of revival ....which was eventually subdued, edited and eventually marketed in the form of what we now know as The Holy Bible.
