A non-believer (yet) asked me two good questions
-
Why did Allah allow previous scriptures and the words of previous prophets to be forgotten and corrupted?

Why not just make the first prophet the last prophet?

TonyProphet Adam(as) is the beginning of Islam. Prophet Muhammed(pbuh) is end. He choose Adam to start the message and Muhammed to conclude it.

Nowhere it does state in the book that nabiyeen bring new books. To be honest, I can't even see this concept of 'new book' and personally, I don't think nabi-hood is connected with new books. Nabiyeen seem to me to be people who achieve a kind of sagehood or sainthood. Further, 5/44 uses the phrase 'an-nabiyeena alladhina aslamu' (the prophets who submit). Why is this phrase necessary if nabiyeen weren't by definitions muslims already?

Nun-Ba-Alif = utter a low voice/sound, become exalted/elevated, assault/come upon, went forth, brought/produce, to acquaint/inform, gift of prophecy, prophet, information/intelligence/news/announcement/narration/narrative/story (something that is related from one to another), eminence/protuberence in the ground/earth, an evident/clear way, bull, a torrent that comes forth from another land, a man coming forth unexpectedly from an unknown quarter

One thing which strikes me is that, in the growthv of Quran-only debates on the net, now that we have people who believe in the 'correct islam', what now ? Kassim Ahmad (author of 'hadith a reevaluation) said that 'islam plants the revolutionary spirit' and I think he's very right. So now we have the ideal but how do we get there?
I have a very strong feeling that these concepts of 'nabiyeen' and 'rusul' are keys in realising the goals of ad-deen. The question is how.

I believe you are correct that nabiyeen do not bring books. At least according to alquran, perhaps in some event they may if they choose to put in writing their revolutionary understandings. Also I'm not comfortable with kitab being referred to as book or scripture. To me alkitab in essence is the decree.

Al-kitab is a little puzzling for me at this point, brother. Here's my line of reasoning thus far
Al-kitab
- seems to be connected with umma of the natural world (6/3
- allows an individual to bend space/time (27/40)
- is defined by worship of Allah alone and some laws (2/83-85)
- is given to a person who seeks means and emancipation (24/33)
- no idea what interpretation is in 2/235.
- we're allowed to marry women of those 'given the book'.
- we're to fight those who have been given the book but have decided to transgress the 'sacred' (9/29)
- al-quraan is the detailling of 'the book' (10/37)
so where does that put us, man shock ?

Al Kitaab to me is the ever unfolding book of life. We all are writing our own books, but the realization of that is descended on those who strive. The rest are "sleep". That is why we should only marry women who have been given the book, they KNOW there is a task at hand, unlike one who is "sleep".
I hope to give more insight soon, just wanted to give a quick answer for the time being.
