What does hell mean to you/any alternative undrstandings

First of all I must admit that I am having doubts about the validity of the Quran. Second, no mater what I end up, wether a deist or an omnist(I am considering these two)I won't to stay friends with everyone on this forum. This is the best form of Islam. This and those sufis that believe that everyone will be forgiven.
Ultimately what maters is the truth even though I might no personally like something.I rely greatly on my intuition and am in touch with feelings of love for the creator. And when I feel that love and closeness to God it feels like he simply wouldn't burn anyone. I t feels like if you end up evil you will be a demon and with other satanic beings you would spread mischief. And if you end up good you would end up with God and those sentient beings who have decided to be good or turn away from evil and have died as good beings.
Of course there is always a possibility that I could be wrong. So if you disagree, agree, half agree I would like to hear your opinion. I just want to make it sure that you know that I am not trying to have an argument but am simply interested in what are your thoughts on this post. These are personal beliefs. I see some truth everywhere.

To me, hell is an eternity away from God. Not being in his presence.. it one of my biggest fears. I know what the Qur'an says. I am just giving you my thoughts when I think of hell. It is not the fire that makes me cry, it is when I think of his absence that makes the tears flow. I can't imagine anything more painful than that.

I supose different people have different personal beliefs, but if we are to follow the Quran than I supose that we would come to the same conclusion as Latif has.
Wich brings me to question of subjectivity and objectivity. So what do you think. Is there objective moral truth or is moral truth subjective?

Hell is very possible when one understands that the world we live in is a mere illusion.
This world is nothing more than certain atoms being held in one frequency. The world simply exists in a probability function and the wavelength only collapses through conscious observation from either us or God or both. It is very easy to understand that this world what we see, hear, feel, taste, smell- isn't 'real'. It is possible that after death, the consciousness/soul of the wicked along with God will create hell and the consciousness/soul of the righteous with God will create paradise. Both hell and paradise as real as the world we live in today.

I agree strongly with this.
You are always here. Before you were born, you (well, "not-you" was here. That "here" is your immortal abode of residence, it is your soul.
To others, that point you see as "here" is always moving around. Looking for balance. Food, water, God, whatever. If it finds its ultimate balance in hell, then so be it!

Hell is the place for the unappreciative. Just as paradise is the place for the appreciative. In paradise everyone will get the best of everything, contrary to the people of hell who will get the worst (because they were ungrateful of God's countless signs during the previous life).
The main purpose of this life (from my understanding) is to sift out those who are appreciative of God's signs and blessings from those who are not. Those who are not appreciative will get the worst of his creation in the hereafter. Instead of cool water they will get hot water. Instead of ripe fruits they will get bitter fruits. Every fruit, every comfort, every sign that they took for granted they will get the worst of it in Hell. Paradise on the hand is just the opposite. For those who are able to make it in paradise they will receive the best of God's creation (in infinite abundance) because they appreciated his creations, his blessings and his unfathomably signs during the previous life. This life is just the testing ground to a higher destiny or the worst. -

Dear Kevin, you're exactly right. See the verses 117 & 672 below.
And He it is Who created the heavens and the earth in six periods-- and His throne was on the water?in order to test you, which of you is best in action, and if you say, surely you shall be raised up after death, those who disbelieve would certainly say This is nothing but clear magic.
Who created death and life that He may try you-- which of you is best in deeds; and He is the Mighty, the Forgiving.

Excellent question I must say.
The Quran uses allegorical statements a LOT. That is what I find so beautiful about it. I remember reading somewhere that Allah uses similes to make humans comprehend, or even slightly fathom, that which they could never fully appreciate in their human existence due to their limitations in perceptions. For eg. the quran was primarily sent down to bedouin tribes living in the desert regions.
What was heavenly to them in that scenario? ...water and cool air...hence paradise is shown as rivers and flowing streams with all sort of good foods.
What was torturous?... severe heat and dry hot air, with cacti like plants and hot water...hence hell is indicated as such.I highly doubt that heaven and hell are actually fire and water...for me the worst, most inconsolabe feeling i have ever felt in life is guilt, darkness and distance from God...when I felt that I was too far gone in sin for Him to care to answer my prayer....so IMHO hell for me is exactly that...guilt over self caused anguish and distance from His light for eternity. Since humans are too limited in their experiences and perception, I guess we can only guess as to what the Hereafter holds for us. But no matter what Hell/ heaven is..im sure we all agree on doing the best we can to make our lives here and in the hereafter better.
