It started when I was told music was haram by a Salafi....I then went to look it up....

I found the site "Submission.org" and read their article on Music (which also jabbed at Hadith)...it made sense to me...

Later on, I started researching Hadith and Qur'an and found out that the Qur'an said it was all we need...

So I was convinced and came to the Qur'an alone. )

I spend my time in the water (swimming), reading, browsing the internet, and thinking suicidal thoughts.

          Salam,

Welcome to the forum. As a musician myself, music was one of the key factors which opened my mind against the blasphemous collections of sayings of arabs of desert called Hadith. To this day, I remember reading about certain bloodlines of Shaitan in Hadiths. Rapists/Murderer/Prostitutes/Drug dealers/etc everything was listed in the hadith along with "one who plays a musical instrument" o . That hadith offended me so much, it made me stop playing for 36hours and then I turned agnostic , followed by semi atheistic. I was rather angry at God's low level of wisdom, which classified musical instrument along with those crimes. But as we know, no one can mislead whom Allah shows the straight way ) And I pray that you are one of them )

          PEACE be on you

Well, most of the Hadith were from Persia. Mr. Bukhari and all his disciples (or should I say despicables) were Persian. But some Hadith are very nice and inspiring. The problem arises when one upholds them as canonical/a reliable source of history, in which case there is a major problem.

              Peace, The Dreamer !

              Welcome to the family!

I hope that as you continue to read the Quran, your suicidal thoughts diminish until they are no longer existent. For now that you are studying Allah's words alone, you can realize the gift our Creator has given to us, and how valuable it is in order to attain LIFE.

May peace be with you my friend, and feel free to share your emotions with us per chance we can relate and help each other to be successful.

peace Yes, I have recently been lacking in reading the Qur'an and Salat so I will start up again (the lack of is probably where the (slight) depression came from). And don't worry, the suicidal thoughts are never that serious. It's just that some days when the day is going bad...

Wow, i imagined that scene a lot, only that I am not closing my eyes, looking in the mirror instead, and the gun I'm holding has two markings--one at the right-hand side, written in reverse, mirrored "NOT YET". The other one at the left-hand side "maybe never".
