To me Sunni Islam didn't make sense, their beliefs were nonsensical and they didn't add up. I also resented being told that I should 'hate' Jewish and Christian people. When I questioned these beliefs, other Sunnis became very aggressive and I was told it was a sin in itself to even think such thoughts. I read about Zoroastrianism while I was a practising Sunni and I was a bit worried to see the similarities between was supposed to be a monotheistic religion and a pagan religion.

It was from there that I started researching and I found out that hadiths were not compiled at the time of the Prophet but about 200 years later. How could the majority of muslims believe in something that was written 200 years later after our Prophet? A game of chinese whispers proves the fact that people can't even repeat something word for word in the same 3 minutes, forget 200 years! Besides, so many hadiths contradict each other, and so many of them forbid things without any proper reasoning, or forbid things which blatantly contradict the Qur'an.

I then came across a quranist site and their arguments were so logical and they made so much sense. They used diffferent parts of the Qur'an to back up what they were saying, not just one verse over and over. I.e - Obey Allah and His Messenger. And what struck me the most was how 'Quranist Islam' was so peaceful, this was how I imagined Islam to be.

I mentioned to a close friend how I was having second thoughts about the Sunni sect. I got into a debate with about 3 sunnis at the same time, who were all firing questions at me and to my surprise, I could disprove everything they said and rendered their argument useless. They were all die-hard Sunnis but I managed to change the views of one of them.

The turning point came this Ramadan. I haven't ever prayed as sincerely as I did this ramadan - I asked for guidance. I read a Qur'anic translation free from sunni/shia interpretation and realised just how many verses are mistranslated on purpose.

Our religion has been corrupted into some sort of fanatical hate cult full of intolerance. It's as if the majority of muslims believe that the only way to go to heaven is to have the worst life possible on earth without any happiness or freedom, one that's full of restrictions.

True Islam is timeless. The reason why we have so many sects is because people feel the need to 'modernise' islam. Islam doesn't need to be modernised at all, hadiths just need to be put away, hadiths reflect the culture of a by-gone era with barbaric practices. True Islam is very peaceful and a very very easy religion to follow. Ever since leaving the Sunni sect, I feel much happier and more at peace with others and myself.

I hope that I remain guided.

    Peace.

        welcome

Satan threatens you with poverty and orders you to immorality, while Allah promises you forgiveness from Him and bounty. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.

Verse above is probably the most easy to understand, Why people become a Sunni.

Lift the burden of Poverty and People will be more open minded on the truth.

        All the best and peace.

I absolutely agree that hadiths make Islam look like some hate cult. I'm glad you found the truth.
