If you take the Quran as your only source of guidance....

I have been trying to understand what it means to only take the Quran as sole religious guidance, but I am having trouble in this situation.

Let us say we all live in the time of Messenger (peace be upon him). He for some unknown reason orders us to dig a ditch.

As everyone knows the Quran does not order us to "dig a ditch."

Can a situation like this happen? (where the Prophet being a human living and interacting with us give an order to us that is not in the Quran?)
What would you do?
What are we religously obligated to do in this situation?

Behold, We have bestowed upon thee from on high this divine writ, setting forth the truth, so that thou mayest judge between people in accordance with what God has taught thee. You claim Quran never orders to judge by Quran ? it does. Thus, a defined purpose of the revelation from on high (i.e., Quran) is to serve as guide to judge between people. Please note that in the earlier post (date Apr 17, 2004), I made this distinction the Prophet judged BETWEEN PEOPLE based on Quran.

Claim #1. Nowhere in the Quran is it commanded for us to judge, decide, or use as guidance the Quran or the Holy Books alone. Instead the wording used has always been to judge or decide only by what ??Allah has revealed.? Sometimes the wording has been to use ?God alone? for guidance and decision making

I would like you to pay special attention to the underlined word "only". I am looking for an ayah, that specifically tells the beleivers to judge by the Quran or divine writ alone, excluding anything else. (This is your central tenet).

I know you believe 541-48 does so but I would like for you to provide other ayahs that disprove this claim.

ex. "use God alone for guidance"

And do not argue with the followers of earlier revelation..."We believe in that which has been bestowed from on high upon us, as well as that which has been bestowed upon you for our God and your God is one and the same, and it is unto Him that we surrender ourselves."

The BIGGEST part of Islam is believing in one God and Quran. This verse is saying not to argue with those of earlier revelation since they believe in the same one God and believe in God's (older) revelation. But, we are even closer, we have the same God and the same Quran.

In my opinion, I think it is best to lay this to rest (heh...that rhymes). As this verse points out, its not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things, we all surrender "unto Him".
