i think this is one ayat which needed looking into for the realisation of what a qibla can be or is.1087
YUSUFALI We inspired Moses and his brother with this Message "Provide dwellings for your people in Egypt, make your dwellings into places of worship, and establish regular prayers and give glad tidings to those who believe!"
PICKTHAL And We inspired Moses and his brother, (saying) Appoint houses for your people in Egypt and make your houses oratories, and establish worship. And give good news to the believers.
SHAKIR And We revealed to Musa and his brother, saying Take for your people houses to abide in Egypt and make your houses places of worship and keep up prayer and give good news to the believers.The Message translates it as
- And We inspired to Moses and his brother ?Let your people leave their homes in Egypt, and let these homes be your focal point and hold the contact-method. And give good news to the believers
Please read the translation knowing the people are allready living in egypt and allready have their homes there.
I still can't figur out how in heavens the the Message got this translation.Which may be different to the others but where in heavens have they got the words from?
Lekoamekoma= To your people
tabawa'A=Thou return.Qiblata=Direction or point towards which one turns his face or attention.
Aqeemu = You offer/you observe/Follow the teachings/keep/hold/do perfectly/setup/bear(true testimony).
Bashere = Give good news/He gave or imparted such important ,urgent,pressing,grave,stupendous news which changed the colours and features of the listener.
Misr=Chief town/Boundry/Egypt.

And we revealed to Moses and his brother (saying) that thou return to your people in the main city dwellings and make your dwellings a point of attention and hold the salaat and tell the important /urgent news (to) the beleivers.

What do you think the main city implies? And why do we make the people houses in this main city a focus of attention? The God has already told us that the focus should be the system of hearing and obeying the restrictions.
Pharoah claimed he controlled (M-L-K) this "main city".
(4351) And Pharaoh called in his nation, he said "You my nation, is not for me control (of) misra, and these the rivers flow/run from beneath/below me, so do you not see/ understand?"
Let me give you my understanding of the symbolism so far. The main city cannot be a physical place, wicked rulers don't need a physical place to rule the people, they need CONTROL of the MINDS of mankind, they like to instill fear in thier subjects. I see that pharoah says the rivers flow from beneath him, I wonder if this is the "river" that Musa and the male children of isreal crossed. So I think Musa and his brother were to make the peoples MINDS thier focus, to give them the good news so they can change thier minds. I think that the main city is the same as Nafs(Mind).
This is my thought right now, I welcome all corrections or additions. Keep in mind that the house of the God is that which protects us from outside influence, all of us have some kind of "house" some are in the God's house, some have spider like houses.

As the people of Pharoe where split ,some where know on the side of reason and Right so Allah told Moses to go back and hold a meeting (a Salat) in the main city to decide how and what to do next, and make this a focus - get his peoples attention and give them the pressing news .
Seems so obviouse and it is a common thing employed all over -at all levels in every nation to my knowledge -i mean the method.
Thank god for his simple ways - as not all of us have the means of changing sticks into snakes .Salaams.

Unfortunately i can't seem to grasp the symbol method of analysis.Well you have to incorporate the story of Joseph into your REALITY, so at some point you will have to be able to interpret the VISIONS. Stories are told so that you can bring VISIONS in your mind.

How did you get the "salaat" in there? Further, salaat does not mean assembly(jumah). In this reality, what does the stick represent? (The one that Musa touched the river with)

A dream and a vision are the same, you achieve both by being in a state of meditation. We "day dream" all the time, when you have a vision, you are normally not focused on what is in front of you. Sometimes a person will come by and snap thier fingers and say "wake up".
But all the rest are not dreams and hence not visions as such,to my understandings.
The only way we can "SEE" these events is in the pictures they create in our minds, am I the only one who sees a picture when reading stories?

YUSUFALI And remember Moses prayed for water for his people; We said "Strike the rock with thy staff." Then gushed forth therefrom twelve springs. Each group knew its own place for water. So eat and drink of the sustenance provided by Allah, and do no evil nor mischief on the (face of the) earth.
PICKTHAL And when Moses asked for water for his people, We said Smite with thy staff the rock. And there gushed out therefrom twelve springs (so that) each tribe knew their drinking-place. Eat and drink of that which Allah hath provided, and do not act corruptly, making mischief in the earth.
SHAKIR And when Musa prayed for drink for his people, We said Strike the rock with your staff So there gushed from it twelve springs; each tribe knew its drinking place Eat and drink of the provisions of Allah and do not act corruptly in the land, making mischief.new translation

Remember the people where very obstinate,hard of heart,you can get this from the previous ayat.

I do not agree with making the implication that actual translation, I would leave rock as rock because it is meant to be an allegory.
The only change I would make to the original is change "strike" to "seperate". Seperate the rock with your staff. The staff is your philosophy of life that supports you. Seperate the rock (those hard of heart) with your philosophy of life (which was made active for you by the God).
