The Message - 2nd Edition

Peace be upon you Layth,
I needed time off just to reflect on everything...Over the past 2-3 years there has been so much information, so much learning, that it was time just to step back and take a deep breath.
Yes indeed, there is a time for everything, I am just glad to see you back.
Luckily this has been very helpful as a few mistakes in analysis/thought did come out.
Anyway, looks like I am getting back in full swing again
Looking foward to hear your new understandings

Peace Layth
I think in ayat 81 anafal should be voluntary gifts and not the spoils of war for which for which all definitions fall under fai or ghanimah. It is obviously not an ayat concerning war and it's spoils, but rather an ayat concerning the distribution of your goods for God and the messenger (i.e. the gov't).

Start a thread on that Joe, I want to see more about that.

Salaams layth,
I hope you would reconsider what hafeez and ayman have recommanded in their posts, regarding masjid, qibla, and some of the miracles -which are ALL to gotten rid off in my quran they wouldn't exist as they currently, even aidid had some convincing argument, but obviously you don't want throw everything overboard so keep doing this for Allah gradually.
The quran makes things clear, all superstitions, wichcraft magic-miracles which Allah doesn't need to perform,as we are responsible and owe him,and will hence answer for our deeds. The quran is common sense and doesn't ,no way go against science.
Salaams.

Peace Layth, all
Please take this into consideration, in regards to 1231 and 1250.
http//www.free-minds.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=29143&highlight=
Suggestions made by mz357 and Hafeez imply that knife and hand are mistranslations, apperantly hand is not mentioned in the verse at all, nor is there to be a banquet and knife was placed in there because the same word used for 'losin ones strength' can also be translated as 'cut'.
So when she heard of their accusations she sent for them and prepared for them a show and everyone came out and she said come out before them then, when they saw him they exalted him and lost thier balance and they said forbid Allah not this a man none this(is) but angel a noble 1231
So the king said "Bring ye him unto me." But when the messenger came to him (Joseph) said "Go thou back to thy lord and ask him `what is the state of mind of the ladies who have lost thier mental balance?' for my Lord is certainly well aware of their snare." 1250
As always please verify this information.
Please forgive me if this was already changed in the reecent translation that you posted, I am unable to view it because this computer is not mine and does not have a zip program.

Peace brother Layth,
I have 3 suggestions
-
You and You and You in the quran
to make the distinction at least between YOU (singular) and YOU (plural) in the translation, it will be closer to the Arabic text Inshaa Allah.
345 and 4171
FM
345. And the Angels said ?O Mary, God gives good news of a word from Him whose name is the Messiah, Jesus the son of Mary. Honourable in this world and in the Hereafter, and from among those who are made close.?In 345, this is not the name of the word, I suggest this translation
345 Angels said, ?O? Mary! Allah gives you the good news through a word from Him. His name would be Christ Jesus, son of Mary, held in honor in this world and among the ones close to Me in the Hereafter.?37
FM
37. He is the One who sent down to you the Scripture, from which there are firm verses; they are the essence of the Scripture; and others which are similar to each other. As for those who have disease in their hearts, they will follow what is similar from it seeking to confuse, and seeking to derive an interpretation. But none know its interpretation except God and those who are well founded in knowledge. They Say ?We believe in it, all is from our Lord.? And none will remember except the people of understanding.I suggest to modify the following sentence
"But none know its interpretation except God and those who are well founded in knowledge. They Say ?We believe in it, all is from our Lord.? And none will remember except the people of understanding."

I can do this for 11114 & 1778 (by using 'thou'). I believe this is the point you are trying to get accross.

I disagree. The way it is translated makes more sence, especially when we take into account all the other verses that speak of the Quran being "easy" and that it is sentfor mankind (not part in code or which we willnever undrestand...Each time reveals different facts as our knowledge grows).

I looked up "anfal" and it means "what is extra". This works as "spoils of war" in chapter 8 since the bulk of the chapter is related to war.

That will be a good beginning.

If you read my last intervention on this subject, I have said that Allah firms His revelations/verses. He doesn't speak only about one category. Consequently, We could understand all verses in the quran and our understanding is relative and progressive.
I also added that the verbs "AAaqala, fahama (to understand/comprehend)" and "Awwala, Ta/weel" in the light of the quran have not the same meaning.Could you at least remove the full stop between "and those who are well founded in knowledge" and "they Say ?We believe in it, all is from our Lord.? in the same way for 4171 between "and His word" and " He delivered it to Mary .."
I think this full stop in 37 and 4171 is an interpretation and a translation word for word is better.
Thanks in advance
Marie

Peace Layh,
The following verse can bring additional information about 37"..and those who are well founded in knowledge, they say ?We believe in it, all is from our Lord.? And none will remember except the people of understanding
- But those of them who are firm in knowledge, as well as the believers, they believe in what was sent down to you and what was sent down before you; and those who hold the contact-method, and those who contribute towards betterment, and those who believe in God and the Last Day; to these We will give them their reward greatly.

Salam Layth,
Why do you always replace Iblees by Satan in your rendition ?
Does it not make it less literal than it could be ?Peace,
JM -
Peace be upon you,
Why do you always replace Iblees by Satan in your rendition ?
Does it not make it less literal than it could be ?Yes, "iblis" and "shaytaan" should not be combined as one, they are seperated to show us how the wicked mind works.
Iblis is the description of one who operates according to his/her own desires/passions/emotions(shayteen).

Salaam Layth,
True, this chapter is about war, but it seems that 'spoils' is often synonymous with ghanimah (see 841). In 81 there has been no war, so there are no spoils, but all gains of war come under the definition of 'ghanimah' or 'fai' (see 597). I believe what 81 is actually saying is that we give of what we have for the good of the system.

Peace Marie,
Could you do it too for 4102, 17110, 2014, 2945, 2144, 145, 149, 150, 3337?
Here is what I can place
"He is the One who sent down to you the Scripture, from which there are firm verses; they are the essence of the Scripture; and others which are similar to each other. As for those who have disease in their hearts, they will follow what is similar from it seeking to confuse, and seeking to derive an interpretation. But none know its interpretation except God, and those who are well founded in knowledge Say ?We believe in it, all is from our Lord.? And none will remember except the people of understanding. (37)
"And if thou are with them and hold the contact-method for them, then let a group from amongst them stand with you and let them bring their weapons; and when they have prostrated then let them stand guard from behind; and let a group who has not yet contacted come and contact with you, and let them be wary and let them bring their weapons with them. The rejecters hope that you would neglect your weapons and goods so they can come upon you in one blow. There is no sin upon you if you are impeded by rainfall, or if you are ill, that you keep from placing down your weapons. And be wary. God has prepared for the rejecters a humiliating retribution. " (4102)
"Say ?Call on God or call on the Almighty. Whichever it is you call on, for to Him are the best names.? And do not be too loud in thy contact-method, nor too quite; but seek a path in between. " (17110)
2014 (no change required as the wording is already clearly adressing Moses when looked in sequence)
"Recite what is inspired to thou of the Scripture, and hold the contact-method; for the contact-method prohibits evil and vice, and the remembrance of God is the greatest. God knows everything you do." (2945)
2144,145,149,150 (no change required as wording is clear when looked in sequence)
3337 (no change required, wording clearly speaking of prophet)

The word "ghanaim" cannot be used for war spoils as that word is also found in heaven (with God are many "maghanim").
Also, the reason I go with "Anfal" being spoils is because 81 is answering a questions regarding them...While we have already established elsewhere what is to be given to charity and what is to be given from income.

Salaam Y'all,
I was wondering if this 2nd Edition was available for ordering yet, but based upon what I'm getting from the progression of the discussion here, I'm assuming that it's not available yet for ordering from Amazon or iuniverse.
Anyway, I have a question for you Layth I've noticed that in some parts of the translation you translated 'Solla' into Contact-Method, but in other parts you also have Assembly. I'm just curious if that's the way the final draft of it would be printed? Actually, it doesn't matter to me personally either way, but I am curious as to what your final plans are for this particular term.
Salaam Y'all.
