          Peace Ervin,

          From my understanding of al-quran

If it is a sin against your creator, then confess to him and stop the bad act. He will surely forgive you as he is the most merciful.

If you have wronged against someone, then you have to ask forgiveness from the victim/victim's family and payback for the damage caused; even if you have killed someone, you can present yourself to the victim's family and propose to work for them until you pay back the amount that they feel just or acceptable, that is in the case they accept to spare your life and not apply the law of equity and forgive you, which is better according to al-quran. And again, the god is the most merciful.

If you feel that you have wronged the community, then work to repair what you did and help others. The good deeds should outnumber the bad deeds, and things would flow peacefully.

          I hope this helps. peace

Why would you confess your "sin" to an omniscient creator who manifests all realities from the inside-out? Who are you confessing to? And for what reason should you confess to?

              Peace Kaiokenred,

Why would you confess your "sin" to an omniscient creator who manifests all realities from the inside-out?

To have the chance to defend YOUR-SELF for having done the bad acts, and to ask for clemency in judgement from your creator; this if it is not too much for one's ego.

              Who are you confessing to?

You are confessing to the one from whom you have asked for help when there was no other one able to save you, the one who was your last resort, who you felt deep inside you that he was the creator of all.

And for what reason should you confess to?

For your own good. The god does not need any thing - literally -

              peace

If you are in denial you will not progress. Confessing is simply accepting the fact that you have sinned and repenting is as simple as making positive changes to your life that do the best to reverse what you did.

Allah is omniscient, why do you need to confess to him? Allah knows what you've done and what you're gonna do, he knows everything.

I don't ask help from Allah, Allah is the solitary consciousness that manifests all reality from the INSIDE-OUT, Allah isn't gonna help me or anyone.

I know what to do for my own good, I don't need you to tell me, since you're totally wrong anyway.

I don't believe terms such as 'Sin' and asking for 'forgiveness' are Quranic concepts. Rather such terms have seeped into Islam because of Christianity and Zoroastrian influence.

6918-20 On the Day you will be brought, not a single hidden deed of yours will
remain hidden. Then he who is given his record in his right hand, will say, ?Come
all of you around! Read this my record. Behold, I always thought that my
account would be given to me.?

If our deeds (i.e actions not 'sins&#039 will be revealed on the day of judgement, why is there any need to confess your 'sins' or rather deeds to Allah? Will confessing your deeds to Allah - the omniscient and omnipresent, make a difference? According to The Glorious Reading, no.

You can find more on this thread which is a great read, all of it. Arnold Yasin explains things exceptionally well, hopefully he'll be back one day.

Exactly so... There is no need to confess. Like I said, accepting that you have done evil actually does what confession is supposed to do - otherwise such things linger in your subconscious. The key word here is acceptance. It is not for ALLAH who records everything, it's for us - for OUR brains, OUR hearts, OUR minds

                        {132}
And enjoin prayer on your followers, and steadily adhere to it; We do not ask you for subsistence; We do give you subsistence, and the (good) end is for guarding (against evil).

For example some say there are stages to recovery from things such as addiction denial, anger, grief, bargaining, acceptance. Likewise for our past evils not everyone takes responsibility for themselves...

                          Peace,

It is less about confessing the sins than to put the effort to stop it in the future.

                          Peace

                            Greetings and Peace, all group

IMO, pretty much what IAMOP said. I'd like to add that if confessing helps a person to repent/turn away from wrongdoing, they should confess. Keeping in mind 316, a person should certainly ask for forgiveness, if it can be done with honest seeking--and with 3135 in mind, forgiveness for specific errors/transgressions.

On the other hand, I'm not sure that the concept of "sin" or "forgiveness" is not present in AQ. It really doesn't matter if we call the word sin/evil/wrongdoing/error/mistake/immorality/etc. In any case, the word is not interchangeable with the meaning of the word "deed" in general, although evil deeds are a subset of deed. Proofs

285 But then here you are killing each other and expelling a group of you from their homes; you act towards them with evil and animosity. And if they come to you as prisoners, you ransom them while it was unlawful for you to expel them! Do you believe in part of the Book and disbelieve in part? The punishment for those among you who do so is humiliation in this worldly life, and on the Day of Resurrection they will be delivered to the most severe retribution. GOD is not unaware of what you all do.

2173 He has only made unlawful for you that which is already dead, and the blood, and the meat of pig, and what was dedicated with to other than GOD. But whoever is forced to, without seeking disobedience or transgression, then there is no sin upon him. GOD is Forgiving , Merciful.

258 And We said "Enter this town, and eat from it as you wish bountifully. And enter the passageway by crouching, and say "Our load is removed," so that your wrongdoings will be forgiven , and We will increase for the good doers."

2268 The devil promises you poverty and orders you to immorality , while GOD promises forgiveness from Him and grace. GOD is Encompassing, Knowledgeable.

316 The ones who say "Our Lord, we believe, so forgive us our sins , and spare us the retribution of the Fire."

331 Say "If you love GOD then follow me so GOD will love you and forgive your sins ." GOD is Forgiver , Merciful.

3135 And those who, if they commit lewdness, or wrong themselves, they remember GOD and seek forgiveness for their sins . And who can forgive the sins except GOD? And they do not persist in what they have done while they know.

                            ALLAH knows best.

                            peace
