    Salaams all,

this is part of an article by Layth(i hope he doesn't object to me putting it here);but i have simply input the meaning given by Grourself for Ramadhan.

Any people dissagree with it ,then explain so we may catch up.

    Salaams.

    Ramadhan
    QD) Tells you Dha'n=Niggerdilly/Greedy.e.t.c
    Ramy = cast/ throw
    Traditional translation
    002.185
The month of Ramazan is that in which the Quran was revealed, a guidance to men and clear proofs of the guidance and the distinction; therefore whoever of you is present in the month, he shall fast therein, and whoever is sick or upon a journey, then (he shall fast) a (like) number of other days; Allah desires ease for you, and He does not desire for you difficulty, and (He desires) that you should complete the number and that you should exalt the greatness of Allah for His having guided you and that you may give thanks
    002.183
O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that ye may (learn) self-restraint
    002.184
(Fasting) for a fixed number of days; but if any of you is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed number (Should be made up) from days later. For those who can do it (With hardship), is a ransom, the feeding of one that is indigent. But he that will give more, of his own free will,- it is better for him. And it is better for you that ye fast, if ye only knew.

    New translation and explanations.

Month (of) casting/throwing Niggerdliness/greediness in which the Quran was sent down as a guide and clarification of the guidance and the criterion Whoever from you is witness to that month, then let him fast in it. And whoever is ill or traveling, then the same number from different days. God wants to bring you ease and not to bring you hardship; and so that you may complete the count, and glorify God for what He Has guided you, that you may be thankful. (2185)

you who believe, it is decreed for you to fast as it was decreed for those before you that you may be righteous. A few number of days. Whoever of you is ill or traveling, then the same number from different days; and as for those who can do so but with difficulty, they may redeem by feeding the needy. And whoever does good voluntarily, then it is better for him. And if you fast it is better for you if you knew. " (2183-184)

Ignoring the fact that fasting is decreed to those before us (and thus is not specific to the Muslims, nor to the revelation of the Quran), the period which we are to fast has been defined by the word 'madoodat/few'. This word typically indicates a number from 3-10 as the term 'madoodat' is used for numbers which can be simply counted even by the fingers of the hand (this same word can be seen in 2203 to indicate a period of 3 days).
The answer (which number is it from 3-10) is derived from 2185 in which God say's "so that you may complete the count". The complete count for our number system is a 10-based system (2196). i.e. we when we reach 10, we start the count again with 11, 12, 13, etc.. (this is different from an 8 based system which has been used in the past or even a 7 base system).
Fasting = 10 days (these are the first 10-days of the 1st month of the new year since the fast begins with witnessing the month, thus its beginning).
A note to mention out of curiosity is that the occurrence of the word 'yawmakum/yamahum/your days/their days' is exactly 10 times in the Quran.

Thanks to those who like to make improvements for better/right.

      Peace mz357

For the past so many years I was under the impression that except FASTING everything is corrupted. LOL you have given me a new headache. (for research purpose)

Very good article, it is an eye opener to those who blindly follow the traditional translation and belief and practice.

Keep it up brother and continue exposing the corruptions of the Quran translation and the beliefs and practices.

      Thanks.

        Salaam mz n all,

Interesting indeed... I have no quarrels. D I'm still studying this subject though, so it would be interesting to hear from people who have a different view.

        Peace!

          Peace all,

Please enlighten me with your thoughts on the following

Lets say that we are to fast 10 days during the month of Ramadan. But if Ramadan means "month of heat" during/in which the Quran was revealed, as pointed out earlier and keeps on changing every year, how are we supposed to keep the 10 day fasts when Ramadan falls in winter?

Does Ramadan means "a month", "a month of heat", "summertime" or what?

If Quran commands us to observe fasts in or during the month/days of Ramadan in which it was revelead, then how are we suppose to observe fasts on the month/days in which the Quran wasn't revealed, knowing the seasonal changes?

Does the words Ramadan and fast really mean what they are contextually?

For now, I am focusing on Grourself points. They definitely need attention, as far as I am concerned.

            Peace all,

I am not agree to break "ramadhan in two words.
Let us suppose that this breaking is correct, the new translation "Month (of) casting/throwing Niggerdliness/greediness" doesn't make sence for me and it is not supported by quranic evidence.

For the moment, my conclusion is that this new translation is not the best explanation of the word "ramadhan" in the light of the quran.

I also consider the translation of ramadhan as a month of heat is not supported bu quranic argument.

            Allah knows best.

I changed my view about the verses 2184-185, Allah specifies every time the number of days of abstinence 3 days (589), 10 days (2196), two months (492, 584).

This my own understanding, there is no doubt, we should abstain one lunar month which is the month of ramadhan and the verse 2185 is clear

Therefore, whoever of you can observe the season, then let him abstainit

i.e. we have to abstain the month of ramadhan

A lunar month = counted days and it seems coherent.

              Allah knows best

i.e. we have to abstain the month of ramadhan

You quoted "season" and you conclude "month". ? Also, you didn't quote "therein", is this not literal/word for word?

                Thanks

PS - Just to let you know, I view it as one month also (for now).

                  Salam brother Zein,

                  Salaam sister marie,

Therefore, whoever of you can observe the season, then let him abstainit
i.e. we have to abstain the month of ramadhan

PS - Just to let you know, I view it as one month also (for now).

Sorry for the confusion, I have just quoted the translation of FM, but I prefer lunar month than season and it is one lunar month

I consider "let him abstainit more accurate that"..abstain therein or in it" because we should read "falyasum feehi" instead of "falyasumhu" in the same way for the following verse

                  1. The Pilgrimage is in the months which have been appointed. So whosoever decides to perform the Pilgrimage in them, then there shall be no sexual approach, nor vileness, nor baseless argument in the Pilgrimage. And any good that you do, God is aware of it; and bring provisions for yourselves, though the best provision is righteousness; and be aware of Me O people of understanding.

Alhajju ashhurun maAAloomatun faman farada feehinna alhajja fala rafathawala fusooqa wala jidala fee alhajjiwama tafAAaloo min khayrin yaAAlamhu Allahuwatazawwadoo fa-inna khayra alzzadi alttaqwawaittaqooni ya olee al-albabi

From this sentence "faman farada feehinna alhajja"we could say "faman hajjafeehinna /So whosoever perform the Pilgrimage in them "

                  Allah knows best

                  Marie

In the case of those who say that month only equals the full moon, what about the passage in chpt. 2 that says that 1 day of missed fast can be compensated for feeding 1 person.

Later on in the Koran in chpt. 58 it is stated that the compensation for missing 2 months worth of fasting is to feed 60 people.

I think this means that the Koran obviously equates 2 months with 60 days, and 1 month with 30 days.

Also what did the Arabs who followed Roman and Persian months call them. I'm sure they called them shahr/ash-hur also.

But it seems that the Koran thinks that a month is 30 days, and two months is 60 days.

                    Godbless,
                    Anwar

Ramadan cannot be broken up into two words

rama has no root. It is not an Arabic word.

Ramyun is a noun and ramy daani would make sense but not

rama (raa, fathah, meem fatha) daani (dawd, alif, ya, kasrah)

ramaa (with an added alif to make it agree with the root ramaa) daani

doesn't even make sense because it should be ramaa daanin
