The hadithers claim that the quran was revealed during 23 years because it dealt with the matters the prophet got into. But thats the haditherized version.

      Salaam,

Ask for their proof for their claim that AlQuraan was revealed during 23 years.

You really need to understand first what means Nazzala or Naazil it has nothing to do with 23 years or so because aayaats of AlQuraan are still in process of Naazil.

May Allah increase us all in knowledge and guide us all to His true path pr

        Salam Maha,

        The answer is "both".

Quran was sent down in one night (the night of decree) 971

Quran was revealed over a period of time 7623, 17106

          Shalom Aleikhom Maha,

It was in stages, not all at once

7623 We have sent down to you the Qur'an in stages.

You can find many such supporting ayaats

5101 O you who believe, do not ask about things which, if revealed to you, would harm you; and if you ask about them after the Qur'an has been sent down, then they will become clear to you. God pardons for them, and God is Forgiving, Compassionate

Since this verse is part of the Qur'an, the highlighted red part indicates that the entire Qur'an was not necessarily availbale at the moment.

23 years ? God knows best. There is absolutely no time frame given by the text of the Qur'an. So, take mmkhan's advice

          ......
.......Say "Bring your proof if you are being truthful."

          Peace be on you

Please note that the red part above is translated wrong.

Sahih International O you who have believed, do not ask about things which, if they are shown to you, will distress you. But if you ask about them while the Qur'an is being revealed, they will be shown to you. Allah has pardoned that which is past; and Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing.

Pickthall O ye who believe! Ask not of things which, if they were made unto you, would trouble you; but if ye ask of them when the Qur'an is being revealed, they will be made known unto you. Allah pardoneth this, for Allah is Forgiving, Clement.

Yusuf Ali O ye who believe! Ask not questions about things which, if made plain to you, may cause you trouble. But if ye ask about things when the Qur'an is being revealed, they will be made plain to you, Allah will forgive those for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Forbearing.

Shakir O you who believe! do not put questions about things which if declared to you may trouble you, and if you question about them when the Quran is being revealed, they shall be declared to you; Allah pardons this, and Allah is Forgiving, Forbearing.

Muhammad Sarwar Believers, do not ask about things which, if revealed to you, would disappoint you. If you ask about such things when the Prophet is receiving revelations, they will also be revealed to you. God has exempted you (from the responsibilities of the things you wanted to know). He is All-forgiving and Forbearing.

Mohsin Khan O you who believe! Ask not about things which, if made plain to you, may cause you trouble. But if you ask about them while the Quran is being revealed, they will be made plain to you. Allah has forgiven that, and Allah is Oft?Forgiving, Most Forbearing.

Arberry O believers, question not concerning things which, if they were revealed to you, would vex you; yet if you question concerning them when the Koran is being sent down, they will be revealed to you. God has effaced those things; for God is All-forgiving, All-clement.

              Shalom Aleikhom,

thanks for the insight. But my point still holds, the revelation was incomplete at the TIME-POINT of the ayaat. What do you think ?

              Peace

Moreover, We have since divided it, the Qur'aan, for the reason that you, the Messenger may write/compile/organize and read it for people, awaiting and pausing, since/and We have communicated it-the Qur'aan successively.
