It was built in the 6th YEAR to the Hijra, not the 6th Century.
Appologize for this inconvenience.

i think that those Cubes are the missing link for us to understand once for all that Mecca Cube is not the only Cube and most probably a copy of the Sanaa and Najran one...
Now if we have 1 cube, 2 cubes, 3 cubes, maybe theres a 4th, and a 5th..etc
But surely Najran and Sanaa are the oldest
Thanks again Pazuzu great "missing link" sun
Salaam )

Shalom Aleikhom,
Great find. Very thought provoking. However, need some help, cant locate the mosque. Do you have the actual address ? Even better would be the GPS coordinates. Want to view it on google earth. All I can find is pictures such as these
Keep posting such interesting stuff. Thanks for sharing them.

Salaam dear brothers and sisters sun
I found something in my room about this Mosque in Yemen..
Its an article from N.Geographic Magazine (uUS Version) Vol125 no3 from MARCH 1964 that have a reportage about Yemen and a picture of this Kaaba with some people prostrating to MaKaa during Salat.
The discription of this picture says
"Forheads pressed to the ground, Sana? Moslems kneel for Friday morning at Al-Kabir Mosque,Yemen
s holiest and one of the oldest and most venerated in the entire Moslem World. The stone Kaaba in the courtyard ( hmm) once rivaled Meccas shrine ( hmm)as a pilgrimage center. The muezzin`s melodic cry of Allahu Akbar, which means "God is Greatest", echoesacross the landfive times each twenty-four hours at sunset."by Thomas J. Abercrombie, National Geographic foreign staff/photos by the author
So..We have The stone Kaaba in the courtyard ofAl-Kabir Mosque vs Mecca`s shrine?
Hope it helpsD sorry but i couldnt post respective picture maybe ill take a photo to magazine and post latly if someone really want it sun

So..We have The stone Kaaba in the courtyard ofAl-Kabir Mosque vs Mecca`s shrine?
I'm telling you the Yemenis know something that we don't. Besides the fact that their traditional folk tales and ballads (called "mazameer" - Psalms), which they have been singing for thousands of years, mention prophets Hud, Saleh, Shuaib, Abraham, and Ismael, David and Solomon, and the fact that their ancient poets - up until the Abbasid Era - continuously boasted that the Israelites where among their ancestors , and mentioned place names like "Zion" and "UrSalem" (I will post samples of this poetry soon), the old Yemeni Jewish elders didn't even recognice Palestine as the land of their ancestors. The entire Levant region meant nothing to them. -)
Also, the tradition of "crying at the ruins" is as Yemeni as the term "Yankee" is to an American. (think of the "Wailing Wall", and contemplate where this came from).
Now if you ask any Yemeni what is that cube doing there in the Sana'a mosque, he will most probably stare at you, wide-eyed, with a big ball of chewed "qat" bulging his mouth, and instruct you to piss off and not ask such questions. That there are "things we don't speak of"....

Salaam, thnaks for the apreciation brother Pazuzu sun
I just rotflwith that perfect description, i can imagine the "scenario" Now if you ask any Yemeni what is that cube doing there in the Sana'a mosque, he will most probably stare at you, wide-eyed, with a big ball of chewed "qat" bulging his mouth, and instruct you to piss off and not ask such questions. That there are "things we don't speak of"....
Truth is to be silenced trught the consumption of kilos of kat during afternoons while listening old poetry and instuments.. truth is there but just sleeping..
Well im going to read all article tonight of this old N.Geo magazine to find out anything more that suits this issue...And of course curious about the Najran kaaba and also why this "crazyness" for cubes..
Salaam and thanks again

Shalom aleikhom,
Its so senseless isnt it ? Does no one ever ask them about it ? Doesn't the kids atleast ask what the hell is a Kaaba doing in the center of this mosque ? This is not a critical question, it doesn't require skepticism to ask this simple question.
It would be nice to go and find some Yemeni people and interview them about it.
@Pazuzu..
I am waiting for the sample poetry... and about your works... bravo bravo bravo bravo love them. May God increase us in knowledge.
Peace

Good day to all.
I would like you all to take a close look at the following photos
I'd like an answer to that.
Peace,
It seems that people in the mosque doesn't show any adoration towards the cube, like the one in Mecca.
I found in one of site of archnet that the cube building served as storage of waqaf documentation
Is any San'a brother wants to clarify here?

salaam
found this http//tunisdivagation.blogspot.com/2007/06/mohamed-saws-le-topographe.html
it is in frenchProphet Muhammed seems to have given clear instructions on where and how build this mosque.
it is aligned with mekka and Dhin Montain (i don't know what does it mean)peace

salaam
i understood
Google traduction
"Thus, the Yemeni historian Al Hafedh Arrazi (d. 1067) in his book "History of Sanaa" tells us that Prophet Muhammad (saws) ordered Ibn Wabra Youhanna to build a mosque in the Garden of Ibn Bathan Sassan (old Persian King and governor of Yemen) next to the rock located near the palace Ghamadan on the right over the mountain Dhin. The Mihrab (which indicates the direction of Mecca) should point to the mountain Dhin.
This story was also recounted in some Hadiths too."mountain Dhin is 30km far away from sanaa and 815 km from mekka.
topography shows that mosque of sanaa, mekka and mountain Dhin are perfectly aligned.
so the question is how the prophet knew that pointing to montain Dhin is exactly the same as pointing to mecca ?peace.

scary...lol so what are you implying that the mecca of the Quran is this place in yemen? Also I which is the real mecca. and what is the proof that mecca of today is not that old? any carbon dating evidence? because documents are hardly evidence to go by as there is no way to verify. is there any type of carbon dating or somehow to see how old the structure is? Allah knows best. salam
