This is a podcast I listened to the other day and was deeply concerned about what the reporter was uncovering. Mike Daisey a This American Life reporter is telling us about his journey from an Apple lover to an enlightened technology consumer. He travels all the way to Foxconn campus in Shenzhen China, where Apple, HP, Dell and Nokia have their biggest manufacturing. He interviews the workers and here is what he finds out. I think this is really important information about how these products are made, as we all have or at least had one of these brands and so also supported this kind of human abusing. As consumers in this society of consumerism where we are almost stuck, the least we can do is to think about how things are done and what we should and should not support by what we buy.
These huge manufacturers care only about money, our money. They make millions of mobile phones, Ipads and computers every year depending on what people want. That may sound good but we who read the Quran know better, we know that what people want is not necessarily what is good for people, we have satan on our path deluding us in many ways. Media advertising which has even entered schools, temples, churches and even our bedrooms is one of the biggest weapons of satan. There he suggests to us a way of life thats far away from Gods way of life, he makes stuff important, he makes worldly life seem so important so we forget what we are here to do, so we forget about God. He also make us think that we have to have what everybody else have, he fool us to think if everybody has it then its good. Believers dont make satan win this game! Dont let him fool you to think these stuff are important! They are made by slaves, Quran encourages us to free the slaves. Dont buy these products! By buying them you indirectly say " I dont care about peoples work conditions, I want to have my precious Iphone". Thats egoism, thats hedonism. As muslims we should know better. Foxconn and Apple are just one example of many. Slavery is not extincted, its just covered with other labels.

It is sad but true...there exists today more slavery (in numbers) than at any other time to date in human history. Estimates are 27,000,000 people enslaved--not counting "wage slavery" and "unfree labor". Regardless of how/what it is called--any form of slavery is slavery. There are probably far, far more slaves in actuality.

From an economic perspective, cheap overseas labor does not help the buyer. The United States would do far better if a law was passed that required finished goods sold in the United States (as opposed to raw materials) to be manufactured in the United States (with 5 years leeway to get plants/buildings built). Although inflation would increase and costs rise, more money would circulate and more people would be employed--and people would not be able to be as easily exploited by greedy businesses. Money has no conscience--and it seems that few businesses do either. What is the aphorism about the love of money? hmm
If we end the conditions that make slavery favorable (making money off of it), we will greatly reduce the number of slaves. It sickens me that people who are seeking a better life by immigrating are often caught in forms of slavery. Immigration reform will also reduce slavery. Anything we can do (boycotting business, etc) that reduces slavery is a right act.

Definitely going to listen to that episode. Pure capitalism can be a pretty ugly system, it needs moral/civil checks to keep things from becoming, well, like they are now. Abdul-Hadi, I think your suggestion hits the nail on the head about what needs to be done.
America's criminal justice system is another form of slavery, particularly with the growth of private, for-profit prisons who look to cut costs and increase profits by using inmate labor. Stalin did the same thing with the gulags, though much more of course. Once Kruschev closed the Siberian work camps, the Soviet economy fell apart because they were so dependent on the prison labor to complete infrastructure projects.

Humankind has forgotten how to take care of themselvs without being enslaved. We have drawn in this system so far that we forgot totally how to live self-sufficiently. We need capitalist to give us jobs so we can feed our families, sometimes we can not afford even that.
We are 7billions on the planet today, 5 billions of us at a working age, but there are only 1,8 billion fulltime jobs which provide people breadwinning. Economists, proffessors and other respected people in this field are worning for a global mass unemployment which can lead to massive destructive protests in the near future.
This is a result of making this labouring system so worldwide that a very scarce group of people can afford living without needing to work for someone else and accept any given conditions, of course that is not the only reason, but in my opinion one of the biggest.
I want to gi back to basics, I want to grow my own food and take care of my own animals and dont have to care about being an employee even if that means having less than what we have today, maybe a harder life but a more peacefull, harmonius life in line with how God want us to live.211,12

The corruption/disorder appeared/became visible in the shore/land and sea/ocean because (of) what the people's hands earned/gained/acquired to make them taste/experience some/part of what they made/did , maybe/perhaps they return.
