      Peace Bigmo,

Again, you're basing your perspective on labels and titles. Allah never deemed us dependent on titles and labels. We are simply submitters (Arabic "muslimeen&quot to God ALONE. This, based on our own language, is the best title we can give ourselves. Allah never said that all true submitters must speak the Arabic language; so why must we rely on an Arabic label? Most of the world doesn't even know what the words "muslim" and "islam" mean at all; they just view them as generic labels used to identify Arabs and terrorists, which is completely false. Sunni Moslems support this dogma by giving people so-called "muslim names". WHAT IS A MUSLIM NAME? -\ If we're going to identify ourselves to other people, we need to do so in our respective languages, so they'll at least know the meanings of what we're talking about, instead of being forced to jump to false conclusions. That's why I, as a person living in an English-speaking country, prefer the term "submission" and "submitter" to "islam" and "muslim"...

      Peace,

      Ahmad

But you still have not answered the question how are we to be identified. Sooner or later people would simply make a name for us to distinguish us from others. Plus the Koran gave believers many names so why stick with Islam? Why not Nasara or Ahl Al-Kitab. Why not Mu'mins meaning believers. The Koran at one time told new followers to Muhammad to say you are Muslims but not believers till faith reaches you. So Mu'min can be a superior term than Submitters.

        Hello,
        So interesting.
Where could i read that !?

Mu'Min could be "superior" (term) than Mu,Slim ,,,???

        Wait for your answer.

        Peace

Mumin is believing in the God and God alone for all our needs, say, for cure from all diseases, freedom from the financial crunches forever and for peace in the social life until the life ends. If we believe in men and matters and materials then we are against being mumin. We are associating things and men with the unseen God.

Muslims are those who are endowed with the Grant of Grace and Forgiveness and final attainment of PEACE, the final and Greatest victory of all. So seek to be a muslim; never advance before allah and call yourself a muslim or a mumin.
          .
Oh yes, i lov? it. P?ace for all on Earth and "above". Bravo
          Forgiveness & Peace

            NO.

I follow only the Qur'an and worship God alone,
so i'm a muslim and Islam is my religion.

"O you who deny the truth...
I do not worship that which you worship,
and neither do you worship that which I worship.
Nor will I serve what you serve,
Nor will you serve what I serve.
To you is your religion, and to me is my religion."

            That's it.

            Hello,
            Real l'y ... That is it !?
So Mu'Slim is only for th? last religion "islam" ?
            This is it ??
Very interesting, could you help me ??? To understand (you)

              Dear All,

Quran is the message of God. Following Quran is following God. God talks to his creation with wahi(Inspire). God inspires to all his creations some examples are Prophets 4163, Animals 1668 and ordinary humans 2038, 287 and 4251.
              Arabic - English

              inspiration

              Arabic - English

reveal to , inspire with , inspire to , inspire with (or to)

              , , suggest

              English - Arabic
suggest verb propose ( a theory , plan or hypothesis ) or indicate
              , ,

              English - Arabic
inspiration noun a supposed force or influence on poets , artists , musicians , etc. , stimulating creative activity , exalted thoughts
              , , , ,

inhalation , a drawing of breath
              ,

One can agree or disagree with the above meanings but these meanings are taken from Sakhr Arabic dictionary. Quran is the combination of inspirations which Quran refers to as ayat (signs). In my understanding Quran is combination of inspired signs. Quran works as a wahi for the reader and now it is the duty of the reader to understand those signs.

Signs are clearly differentiated in verse 37 into two categories. According to my understanding Clear signs work as base and allegoric signs are to be explained by retaining the basics intact at all times. What we are debating is part of sign without keeping basics intact.

Here is my understanding of the matter.
569 Free_Minds Surely those who believe; and those who are Jewish, and the Sabians, and the Nazarenes, whomever of them believes in God and the Last Day and does good work; then they will have nothing to fear nor will they grieve.

According to my understanding the translation must be like this 569 Surely those who believed, and the guided, and the converts, and the Christians - whoso believes in God and the Last Day and does good deeds, on them shall come no fear, nor shall they grieve.

If we examine this verse then it is clear that God is clearly mentioning 1. Those who believed (in Quran). 2. those who are guided. 3. Those who are trying convert (trying to become believers) 4.Christians.

The reason I don?t take hadu as Jews because for Jews the word yahood is mention in Qruan in several places but here it is not written yahood but hadu. Verses where yahood is written are

Whatever the case maybe the basics are clearly mentioned. 1. Believes in God. 2. Fears the judgment day. 3. Does the Good deeds.Quran clearly tells the duty of those who believed in the Quran and one can easily find those verses in Quran. All the verses addressed to the believers are telling us qualities of believer and if one does not have all those Qualities then He cannot be the one who believed.

God has mentioned stages (categories) for all of us and those categories are clearly mentioned in the following verse.
3335 For Muslim men and women,- for believing men and women, for devout men and women, for true men and women, for men and women who are patient and constant, for men and women who humble themselves, for men and women who give in Charity, for men and women who fast (and deny themselves), for men and women who guard their chastity, and for men and women who engage much in God's praise,- for them has God prepared forgiveness and great reward.

The sequence of the categories can be taken as top to bottom or from bottom to top but in my understating it is from top to bottom. According to my understanding the meanings are as following. Those who are Obedient (submitters), believers, God fearing (pious), truthful, patient, helping, restrain themselves (food and harm), chaste and those who Remember.

Nowhere in Quran Muslims are addressed nor their qualities are mentioned and this fact leads me to believe that this title can be given by God only or can only be spoken in front of God and not by the people. All the other titles can be checked or understood by humans because they are all explained in Quran clearly.

              Regards.

Hello, this is "Beautiful" .. So nothing new, we are "brothers" and we hav? to follow th? "ancients".
              Thank you & Peace

                  salaam to all,

brother bigmo... you've pointed out something very important. Glad we are actually discussing about this. The word 'muslim' today signifies anything but what it actually means. Sad, but its true. Other 'muslims' might say we are sinners, trying to set up a new group and divide the believers. We are only trying to differentiate from the disbelievers.

Inshallah, we shall have our own identity, a distinct identity that can show the world, the real light of God.

But how much ever we break our heads, in this modern world, there can't be a universally accepted name other than what has been already thrust upon us

                  SUBMITTER

                  and

                  QURANIST

The sooner we all agree on one of these labels, the faster we can develop our Ummah and focus on spreading the true message to the rest of the world.

P.S. Somebody needs to give a tutorial to this guy jaimesss how to post on this page..

The word 'muslim' today signifies anything but what it actually means. Sad, but its true.

Within any group there's always be a 'muslim' and 'non-muslim' people found within..
In similar to 'honest' and 'dishonet' people can also be found within any groups..

Let's assume in another planet, God commanded a group of sentient beings who lived there to be 'honest'..

As a result, that group call themselves "honest" people.. and start to convert people to 'honest'.
As time progress, they make thousands of regulations, ruling and dogma to be applied within that 'honest' community. And they start labeling those who are not a member of their group as 'non-honest', regardless of their character, deeds and attitudes.

After many centuries, people tend to forgot what 'honest' really means and start to ask and say things like

                    • Is anal sex allowed in "honest"?
                    • According to 'honest' how should we washed our butt after dropping our bomb?
                    • How should we pray according to 'honest'?
                    • Those infidels are the enemy of "honest"!!!
                    • We should fight the infidels to uphold "honest"!!
                    • I really admire the 'honest-ic' architecture..
                    • I want to convert to 'honest'.
                    • Those who leave 'honest' is an apostate and should be put to death!
                    • etc.. etc.. etc..

                    Salam / Peace

                      Greetings and Peace, all group

Well, there are also the options of calling oneself a monotheist OR follower of GOD/ALLAH alone. One dislike of the word "Quranist" is that it may suggest to some that one worships the Qur'an. nope Another disadvantage of the word "Quranist" is that it quickly becomes an insult/label that may prevent polite discourse. A muslim may be welcome in places that a "Quranist" may quickly wind up unwelcome or hurt or even dead!

One of the advantages of calling oneself a muslim, IMO, is that ISA it provides opportunities to invite people from other systems and perhaps especially from "mainstream" Islam to monotheism. More people are interested in learning about Islam than about some cult-sounding-system/label that they are unfamiliar with. ISA, we reclaim the word and detoxify islam through positive actions and example.

Many people come to FM to find information on Islam. Others come here ostensibly to "bring us back to the fold" only to be convinced themselves and gain monotheism, ISA. If there is no connection made between Islam and monotheism, opportunities to invite others may be lost.

There is no compulsion in the system. Call yourself according to your understanding and situation. ALLAH knows best who ALLAH's believers are.

May ALLAH see fit to Guide all seekers.

                      peace

                      ~Abdul-Hadi

Hi, I am new to this forum, but let me give an opinion.

I think labeling ourselves anything other than Islam is a bad idea. First of all, we will just create yet another sect, completely different from that of the Prophet (as we will have to form some ideas surrounding our label, whatever that may be), which is forbidden by the Qur'an.

Second of all, it promotes disunity amongst Muslims, because other sects will be tempted to proclam Takfir on us (let us hope we do not fall into such mistake)

Third of all, by using the name Islam yet promoting a better Islam which allows understanding to be reached, it is not us which will become obsolete, but those who divide religion up and promotes disunity. We must trust that if we are the true Muslims, God will protect the name of Islam.

If someone points out that we are unlike other Muslims, simply pointing out the reasoning for doing so would be enough. Such as, "well in the Qur'an it was stated blabla, so they are mistaken in practicing that". This will give a better image of them. If we instead say "well they are Muslims, but I am a XX" this will be problematic because it will only be seen as if we are trying to reinterpret Islam as a new sect instead of really showing people how Islam should be.

People who have found the truth aren't religious and DO NOT have faith. Islam is a deen not a religion, and faith is stupid. And no everything you said was wrong.

I don't think its wise to worry too much about Muslims accepting us or not. This notion of unity can only come about if WE compromise as its very unlikely that they will. Thei Islam is deeply sectarian and rigid. I have noticed that Koranist who use this logic you said tend to try to distance themselves from other Koranist who may have views that Muslims may find extreme. This creates diunity among the Koranist.

Often these Koranist start accepting concepts that are not laid out in the Koran causing disunity among the Koranist. The Koran warned against seperation. There is nothing wrong with disagreements but this should not lead to seperation. That is how sects are created is when their disagrements leads to seperation.

One of the best examples of that is the Muslim rituals. Often for the sake of this unity with Muslims some Koranist tried to force other Koranist to follow these rituals and distanced themselves from them when these Koranist refused. We must only make binding what the Koran made binding in explicit verses.

                              Hello,
                              What is kufar ?
                              Who are the kufar ??
                              Peace

A Kafir is he who does not believe in the Almighty Power, but believes in his and the power of his associates. From this you can derive adjectives and adverbs of Kafir.

                                Hello,
Very interesting.. What is "iman" & "mumin" ?
And Where in the quran can we read "muslim" ?
                                Tank you
                                Peace

Quran is to respond to the sense of the ayat; and to behave so that the ayats of Quran is appreciated by the people around you; hence Quran is not for sporting your abilities to dispute and your disputable abilities.
                                .
