Why Do Hold to The Idea That Khaatim Means Last?
-
The red highlight above is from me.
In Arabic AKHIR means LAST/ENDING, and AKHAR means OTHER/NEXT.
Examples of both are the two verses below.
569,
Surely, those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah, in His Messenger Muhammad and all that was revealed to him from Allah), and those who are the Jews and the Sabians and the Christians, - whosoever believed in Allah and the Last Day, and worked righteousness, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.

If He wills, He can take you away, O people, and bring others. And Allah is Ever All-Potent over that.

mmKhanIt is very simple. It is the case of AWWAL vs. AAKHIR in the verse. It is FIRST vs. LAST.

A good question, yet, we cannot just make up meanings for words to fit our wishes )
Khatam means last, final, and more specifically, closing an envelope by sealing it... Every language has synonyms.. For instance we may say final or last. We may usually use them interchangeably.
Perhaps there is a literary harmony in the choice of Khatam rather than Akhir.. Muhammad, as a prophet, brought a book as a divine message to humanity. Important messages would be put in an envelope and would be SEALED and CLOSED. Muhammad is the prophet (nabi) that brought the final scripture, the Quran, and thus closed the era of prophethood. Of course, the same verse does not close the messengership.

KhailSalaam bro,
The last came first in aayat and then first? Please check the aayaats.
174
174 And We decreed to the Children of Israel in the Book, that you will make corruption twice on the earth, and that you will become very high and mighty.175
175 So, when the promise came for the first of that two, We would send against you servants of Ours who are very powerful, thus they managed to breach your very homes, and this was a promise which has come to pass.176
176 Then We gave back to you your independence from them, and We supplied you with wealth and sons, and We made you more influential.177
177 If you do good, then it will be good for you, and if you do bad, then so be it. But when the promise of the second time comes, they will make your faces filled with sorrow and they will enter the Temple as they did the first time, and they will strike down all that was raised up.Other translations of the same aayat 177
Pickthall (Saying) If ye do good, ye do good for your own souls, and if ye do evil, it is for them (in like manner). So, when the time for the second (of the judgments) came (We roused against you others of Our slaves) to ravage you, and to enter the Temple even as they entered it the first time, and to lay waste all that they conquered with an utter wasting.
Yusuf Ali If ye did well, ye did well for yourselves; if ye did evil, (ye did it) against yourselves. So when the second of the warnings came to pass, (We permitted your enemies) to disfigure your faces, and to enter your Temple as they had entered it before, and to visit with destruction all that fell into their power.
Shakir If you do good, you will do good for your own souls, and if you do evil, it shall be for them. So when the second promise came (We raised another people) that they may bring you to grief and that they may enter the mosque as they entered it the first time, and that they might destroy whatever they gained ascendancy over with utter destruction.
Muhammad Sarwar (We told you), "If you do good, it will be for your own benefit, but if you do bad, it will be against your souls. When the prophecy of your second transgression will come to pass, sadness will cover your faces. They (your enemies) will enter the mosque as they did the first time to bring about utter destruction.
Mohsin Khan (And We said) "If you do good, you do good for your ownselves, and if you do evil (you do it) against yourselves." Then, when the second promise came to pass, (We permitted your enemies) to make your faces sorrowful and to enter the mosque (of Jerusalem) as they had entered it before, and to destroy with utter destruction all that fell in their hands.
Arberry 'If you do good, it is your own souls you do good to, and if you do evil it is to them likewise.' Then, when the promise of the second came to pass, We sent against you Our servants to discountenance you, and to enter the Temple, as they entered it the first time, and to destroy utterly that which they ascended to.
Hope this may help you understand better inshaAllah. Unfortunately no translator translated the word AlAakhirata as Next in 177

mmKhanShalom aleikhem,
How are you ? )
I think it depends on the reader. As for me, as its sealed, its sealed. Thats it. For others, it may be that a saheeh hadith unseals it, or saheeh numbers dividing your name unseals it ,etc.
God knows best.

Shalom aleikhem SoA,
I am great by TheCreator's grace, thanks. D How about you? Long time...
Interesting! Then how about 26-7 and 4137?
26
26 Indeed those who don't believe, whether you warn them or do not warn them, they will not believe.27
27 God has put Khatama on their hearts and their ears, and over their eyes are covers. They will incur a great retribution. Those who are Khafir, Allah has put Khatama on their Qalb. Till when? If you take it sealed, the same question till when?
Please take a look at 4137 for the answer.
4137
4137 Those who believed, then rejected, then believed, then rejected, then they increased in rejection; God was not to forgive them nor to guide them to the path.Where is the permanent seal here? These are those who became Kaafir, as per 27 there is a Khatama put on their qalb when they become Kaafir, then how can they become Believer again? Khatama is a temporary seal that can be broken?
May Allah increase us in knowledge and guide us to His true path pr

A dear brother of mine asked me the following.
I have an cd of The Last Poets, if we were to read the name of the cd would it say Khaatam-ush-Shu'araa (seal of the poets) Or would it read Aaakhir Shu'araa.(Last) How about Khaatam-al-A'immah (seal of religious leaders). Last of religious leaders??? How about Khaatam-ul-Karaam (seal of remedies) used for camphor. Has no medicine been found or used after camphor, if "seal" means "last"? Or Khaatam-al-Huffaaz (seal of custodians) AlShaikh Shamsuddin was called this.Does it mean Have people stopped memorizing the Quran after Sheikh Shamsuddin? Muhammad was called Khaatam-al-Mu'allimeen (seal of teachers/scholars) teachers have existed AFTER Muhammad.

Muhammad never preached religion.

mmKhanShalom Aleikhem,
Praise to God, I am ok. ) Was busy, still busy.
Unless there is a "but", it is permanent. In other words, the order holds until further notice or stated otherwise. Like unforgivable sins... when someone changes their innerself, God is their forgiver. So the seal on hearts issue has stated terms and conditions. It can not be compared to the seal of prophets. I hope you get what I am trying to say. )
Peace be on you
