    Hello.

Satan knows he is already damned to hell for what he has done. However God and Satan have a sort of deal where Satan provides temptation to sin for humans, as a test for us. tempt If anything, Satan is doing what God wants, maybe he is trying to earn his way from going to hell by fulfilling God's plan to test humans.

I had an interesting theory about Satan dating back to my Pre-Muslim days. Has anyone here ever seen Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory? I was always intrigued by the Slugworth character. He is an evil competitor to Wonka trying tempt the children to sell out and betray Wonka's trust. In the end you find out that he is working for Wonka and his job is to test them to find out who's heart is pure.

Might not be the truth with Satan, but always intrigued me.

You seems to know Satan very well, is he (or she/it) a close friend of yours?

If Satan believes in God, as evidenced by verse 848 and 5916 which shows that he does, why doesn't he stop being evil? I think any sincere person who truly believes in God will at least TRY to be good, why is Satan not even trying? Is he not able to be good? And why doesn't God encourage human/jinns to pray for Satan, b/c it seems of all of us, HE needs the most help.

Any thoughts/interpretations are very much appreciated )

This shows that 'believing in God' and/or 'monotheist' is not enough...
OBL believes in God, Kayafas believes in God, Hitler believes in God, Idi Amin believes in God..
But that doesn't makes them good either..

My knowledge only comes from what is in Gods book.

except Iblis (Satan). He refused to be with the prostrators.
He said, "O Iblis (Satan), why are you not with the prostrators?"
He said, "I am not to prostrate before a human being, whom You created from aged mud, like the potter's clay."
He said, "Therefore, you must get out; you are banished.
"You have incurred My condemnation until the Day of Judgment."
He said, "My Lord, respite me until the day they are resurrected."
            He said, "You are respited.
"Until the specified day and time."
He said, "My Lord, since You have willed that I go astray, I will surely entice them on earth; I will send them all astray.
"Except those among Your worshipers who are devoted absolutely to You alone."
He said, "This is a law that is inviolable.
"You have no power over My servants. You only have power over the strayers who follow you.

              salaam,

Several astute observations in this thread, some of which

Is he not able to be good?

If anything, Satan is doing what God wants, maybe he is trying to earn his way from going to hell by fulfilling God's plan to test humans.

It's RK. I'm not a submitter, i just find their website's Qur'an extremely accessible. Like it has little sub titles for each section of the Sura and the Suras down the side which stay with you as you scroll down. Can't seem to find that anywhere else.

                      ...

All of the above mentioned may believe in GOD/ALLAH, but did they believe in GOD/ALLAH alone? hmm Pride is an idol like any other. If they believed, did they follow the Guidance exclusively--or did they take other guidance? Were they obedient?

4010 Those who had rejected will be told "The abhorrence of GOD towards you is greater than your abhorrence of yourselves, for you were invited to believe, but you chose to reject."

4011 They will say "Our Lord, You have made us die twice, and You have given us life twice. Now we have confessed our sins. Is there any way out of this state?"

4012 This is because when GOD alone was mentioned, you rejected, but when partners were set up with Him, you believed. Therefore, the judgment is for God, the Most High, the Great.

Satan knows that there is ALLAH--but Satan puts Satan's desires before obedience. Thus, Satan is NOT a monotheist.

234 And We said to the angels "Yield to Adam," so they yielded except for Satan, he refused and became arrogant, and became of the rejecters.

Monotheism is not necessarily enough, even though we are to cling to this system. Proof

4125 And who is better in the system than the one who submits himself to GOD, and he is a good doer, and he follows the creed of Abraham in monotheism? And GOD took Abraham as a friend.

3030 So establish yourself to the system of monotheism. It is the inclination that GOD has nurtured the people on. There is no changing in the creation of GOD. Such is the pure system, but most of the people do not know.

Why harp on monotheism? Here's one reason why

2439 As for those who reject, their works are like a mirage in the desert. A thirsty person thinks it is water, until he reaches it, he finds it is nothing; and he finds GOD there and He pays him his due, and GOD is swift in judgment.

For a non-rejecter, obedience is tied in with monotheism.

                    ALLAH knows best.

                    peace

                    ~Abdul-Hadi

Hmmm... i like all your thoughts! )
But, if Satan knows he's doomed to hell as God pretty much told him BEFORE they made "the deal", why is he not trying to backtrack himself to avoid going to hell? (If) The deal is "you tempt these humans and by the success/failure of your temptation I (God) will know whick of them is pure and which is not, this is how you'll help me, but either way, YOU (Satan) will go to hell eternally." Why would Satan EVER agree to this deal? It's a lose/lose situation for him...

I think you misunderstand this. God does not need Satan to 'test' his believers, God already knows who is on the correct path and who isn't. Satan's situation somewhat snowballed. Through his pride, he refused to prostrate and thus earned banishment. Satan realised how serious this was, then asked for respite until judgement day, which God granted. Then Satan vowed to lead everyone he could astray -- this was not God's supposition, Satan simply said it. Then God replied by letting him know that all true believers are essentially untouchable. I.E 'Do what you like, Satan, you cannot harm anyone who is with me.'

Satan isn't 'helping' God. Satan is going against God, and then attempting to drag others down with him. When you are against God, everything is a lose/lose situation, there was nothing for him to agree to.

This is actually the Jewish view of the Shaitan, if memory serves correctly.

In addition, there are some who speculate that perhaps Iblis was serving God by failing to bow to Adam, as bowing to anything less than God would be idolatry in and of itself.

I think there is much wisdom in this story from various angles.

I think the gist of the matter is in God calling Iblis 'Arrogant'.Adam too sinned but he may have wanted to return to favour and was inspired the words of repentance.Iblis too sinned but in his arrogance did not wish to turn back and hence it is said that one meaning of iblees is one who loses all hope.

Adam (human) when a normal person, with a sound mind
Insane (wicked, ashtry delluded ) when he become sinner, and litterally insane, the INSANE don't go to jannah until he repents to become Adam again
