    Greetings and Peace, all group

The whole halal/haram food thing (in the sects) is out of control.

Only a few things are actually forbidden; all else is allowed--too simple.

    Other than that

732 Say "Who has made unlawful the nice things that GOD has brought forth for His servants and the good provisions?" Say "They are meant for those who believe during this worldly life, and they will be exclusive for them on the Day of Resurrection." It is such that We explain the revelations for those who know.

16116 And do not say, as to what your tongues falsely describe "This is lawful, and that is forbidden;" that you seek to invent lies about GOD. Those who invent lies about GOD will not succeed.

    peace

So am I wrong to suggest that maybe when the Koran goes into details about humane slaughter that would also include the fact that it was hard to humanely slaughter an animal back in those times, except by like cutting the main vain?

Anyways, wouldn't stunning an animal be humane, since the animal does not feel it? I am just suggesting that maybe the Koran had to be very specific back then because of lack of technology to make slaughter painless.

Also when it says you can eat what people of the book eat, would it make an allowance for you to eat pork if a Christian offered it to you, so as not to offend their feelings, and you would not prepare it yourself?

      I am just asking.

The translation of "People of the Book" is tricky; it doesn't necessarily apply to Christians. Although different people have different rites (which is okay), the instruction of ALLAH is unchanging.

If pork flesh was not allowed, it will never be allowed and has never been allowed--ISA.

Methods of slaughter apply to the person or persons doing the slaughter.

Flesh pork is not lawful unless eaten unknowingly or by necessity. Otherwise, I'd enjoy me some bacon!

The food of monotheists, excluding what is expressly unlawful (should it be offered) is lawful for other monotheists. It is good for monotheists to associate with each other.

        ALLAH knows best.

        peace

Yeah when it comes to kosher I don't see much a difference between that and Halal. Kosher slaughter they cut the main vain and invoke God over it.

Having the throat cut while the animal is awake is very humane indeed.

              Yep, same-same.

Those who don't accept that alcohol is allowed may have trouble with kosher wine, or those who believe that all parts of pigs are not allowed may have problems with some kosher gelatins--but that's about it.

Correct me if I am wrong but the Quran doesn't give details about how to slaughter animals for regular consumption, whether we should or should not eat something based on some personal definition of halal or kosher.

We can't add rules and restrictions and requirements that are not given in the Quran.

and you said that you eat little non-veg

2236 And the plump livestock, We have made them for you to be among the symbols of God; you will have benefit in them. So mention the name of God upon them in succession; then, once their sides have become still, you may eat from them and feed with them the poor and the needy. It was thus that We have made them in service to you, that you may be thankful.
2237 Neither their meat nor their blood reaches God, but what reaches Him is the righteousness from you. It was thus that He made them in service to you, so that you may glorify God for what He has guided you to, and give news to the good doers.

Selam Abdul-Hadi ) I think we are both on the same wavelength in terms of our thinking ).

Selam Mr Q ) I also agree with you with what you are saying. From what I understood by reading, is that we shouldn't eat the animal if it had been killed in the ways stated like physically beaten or a blow or gored or the other ways which I cannot remember.

I'm just thinking how do we know how it has been killed/slaughtered? And how many of you believe that we should invoke the name of Allah whilst it is being slaughtered, whilst about to eat, or both?

Selam Wasi ) Trust me I appreciate everything Allah has given me (like today just bought a turkish kebab yummy food of my origin ), the only thing is I'm a real animal lover and I do think deeply sometimes when I am eating something. Just I sometimes imagine a lamb happily going about it's on life then someone killing it without not feeling or emotion like a duty (or even worse a machine) even if someone has invoked the name of Allah (or like I've heard some mass productions do by playing a tape)... By no means am I refusing Allah's food and he knows what is in my heart and that it is just pure and heart-felt... but I just sometimes wonder what is the actual process of how 'halal' food is killed by... is it better than organic or free-range? (where at least the animal gets some form of freedom and good treatment). I hope people see where I am coming from and everytime I do eat any food I make sure to say (outloud quietly or in my head) "Bismillhi r-ramni r-ram" before eating (almost most of the time).

Peace everyone and thanks for your responses ). It's nice to see a range of views on this subject ).

                      Peace ^.^ peace peace

                        Also Bigmo (Selam ),

I don't think there is tbh... (not that I can recall at least... -) one person was telling me "moses/musa cut an animal by the jugular vein on his journey" but for some reason after reading 42 surah's I can't seem to recall this.... think I might have to retrace my steps and dig this out... Sometimes I find I might need to just go over one of the surahs' again just to clarify something .

Precisely Bigmo ). The way I take that is we should eat food that we have mentioned Allah's name upon... Not anything to do with slaughter. But the mass majority of Muslims in the world eat 'halal' meat (labelled halal). I'm guessing this is because of the assumption that the way of slaughter is humane, ethical and does not create pain in the animal? I'm quite scientifically equipped, however if anyone knows, from what I know, slitting the jugular vein is painless and creates instant unconsciousness. What about electrocuting... I don't like the idea of it at all but anyone know of the process the body goes through?

Most mass produced meat that goes in the supremarket shelves, as well in halal shops, is slaughtered according to the Jewish method of slaughter, callled Shechita/shehitah. This is acceptable to Muslims who liscence it as Halal, from there its distributed to many parts of the world. For example Newzealand Lamb is transported all over the world having been slaughtered this way , and that is why there is a lot of fuss in Britain that supermarkets are selling halal meat so there is a demand from public that all meat to be label'd but its actully Shechita and there is resistance from meat producers to reveal method of slaughtering, lets see who wins.

Korsher has got nothing to do with slaughtering as our jewish brother would tell you, its mainly prayers done on all sorts of food by the Rabbi.

However few Sunni do not believe in the mechanical method and have different methods as shown here

                                Selam Farida ,

Thank you for showing me the vids. To me I felt the second vid (and I watched both parts) seemed better to me as at least the animal is calm and in a state of relaxation. The mechanical way of doing it (first vid) kind of felt a bit too... mechanical, in the sense of putting the animal in that cast where it can still see whats happening... though I suppose at least it doesn't see the knife (but could probably see the blood around it). Out of interest Farida, what is your opinion on the subject? Which of the slaughter processes do you prefer? In seems also to me that both the Qur'an and Torah tell us about how an animal should be treated however does anyone know a reference to this in the Bible? Would have thought mum knows because she's a catholic but she doesn't so anyone out there knows please let me know .

                                Peace out peace peace

                                  From my would-be current understanding

                                  1. God's name does NOT need to be Mentioned AT THE TIME OF SLAUGHTERING.
                                  2. God's name MUST be Rememberedbefore EATING THE ANIMAL

***the word used has the root of Z-K-R, thus you can remember God's name silently over the food, or outloud either way
(Does remembering God's name make a difference? Yes! (research Masaru Emoto Messages from Water)

*I think there are laws in the us which make Animals like cows have to be shot by a blow in the head before slaughtering to kind of render the animal brain dead
(This would render the animal unlawful since it has kind of been stricken/hit with an object, even if the animal is slaughtered after, the heart might not function properly to pump the blood out from the body, and the blood might retain in the organs, tissue/meat etc)

*Please only eat organic Kosher or Halal meat, that would be the best option.

*Please only eat organic Kosher or Halal meat, that would be the best option.

                                    Thanks Youssef,

This is exactly my understanding that the name of Allah doesn't necessarily have to be mentioned when slaughtering but an animal must be slaughtered in an ethical and not by the way Allah mentions NOT to happen. Eating Halal or Kosher meat does give you a better feeling that you are eating at least an animal that we hope has been slaughtered in an ethical way. )

                                    Peace peace

Peace be with you as well,
                                      You are welcome.
Please also don't forget to get ORGANIC Kosher/Halal meat.
It wouldn't be a nice thing to eat hormone injected animals, living in unsanitary conditions, and are not allowed to roam free, and feed an unnatural diet of fortified man made food instead of their natural diet.

Youssef as much as I would prefer to buy ORGANIC food... I honestly haven't seen any kind of organic halal/kosher meat anywhere in my whole area. I'd have to be searching high and low for it. The best I can do at this present moment is to eat halal/kosher and if I do happen to bump into organic meat then by all means, i'll buy ). As I mentioned previously, I'm not really much of a meat eater and love my veggies P so all good ).

                                        Peace peace

Same here, i currently don't really eat meat....It's kind of hard on my digestion.

people should look into how conventionally prepared animals are brought up and how they're fed....
