I am always smiling, especially when talking with mature adults, but even more so with the younger crowd because they are amusing in their self-righteous confusion. D sun

            Salam all,

Just to give the really cheesy answer. All the verses in the Quran are my favourite. I find each on as great as the last. So when it comes to this, I simply go to a random page and pick one out. This is the one I got

Their call therein will be, "Exalted are You, O Allah ," and their greeting therein will be, "Peace." And the last of their call will be, "Praise to Allah , Lord of the worlds!"

Love how the response is "Peace". Islam has so much peace in it, it is said to see those Sunni, Shia, Wahabi and Westerns try to paint it as a religion of aggression.

Do not follow advice which you do not understand. Make detailed inquiries with your eyes, ears and mind.

Do not strut about proudly. You cannot possess the earth, and you cannot rival the mountains in stature.

                  -Qu'ran, Al-Isra, Surah 1737

Shall we treat those who submit ( and stay loyal to their creator) like the criminals ( those who are loyal to others/ follow others)?

What is wrong with your logic/ reasoning?

Do you have another book to uphold ( better then the book of your Lord) ?

In it, do you find anything you want ( including all the fantasies and fairy tales)?

Kay, I love that verse too. It reminds us the importance of humility because we are nothing in comparison to our Lord. So many of us go about our daily lives thinking we are so great because we have so many degrees under our belt or because we have well paid jobs or because we are rich or even for no reason whatsoever. When in actuality we are nothing. What are we in comparison to God when He has provided us with sustenance, as Sushi says.

Kay, I also notice this is your first post, yipppppeee!!!

                              Mr Q,

4319 is one of my favourites. It strikes resonance with me because of the vastness of God's creation, in all its hues and the only key differentiation is piety or righteousness (the intial translation I saw of this said piety, so that's how I remember it-anyone, feel free to correct me!)

The most fundamental rule of the game...

Jafar, thank you for the "street" version! Yes, I must say this that there is nothing in the Qur'an which I have fundamentally disagreed with. I always used to get asked during university and postgrad. (prior to having read the Qur'an) about "Muslims" blowing themselves up-"if they do it, it must say it in the Qur'an"! Yet, the one thing that I feel I can say with conviction now is that I simply don't feel that it says anything in the Qur'an which I, or most other people, could possibly take offence to. It's perfection in its very existence and if people actually took the time to read the Qur'an rather than look at what "Muslims" do or how "they" act, they would know that they are indeed in error.

Also, I love Surah Mulk. I would post all of it up, but a few of my favourite verses from there

                              (671) Blessed is He in Whose Hand is the dominion, and He is Able to do all things.

                              (672) Who has created death and life, that He may test you which of you is best in deed. And He is the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving;

                              (673) Who has created the seven heavens one above another, you can see no fault in the creations of the Most Beneficent. Then look again "Can you see any rifts?

(6713) And whether you keep your talk secret or disclose it, verily, He is the All-Knower of what is in the breasts (of men).

(6714) Should not He Who has created know? And He is the Most Kind and Courteous (to His slaves) All-Aware (of everything).

(6715) He it is, Who has made the earth subservient to you (i.e. easy for you to walk, to live and to do agriculture on it, etc.), so walk in the path thereof and eat of His provision, and to Him will be the Resurrection.

(6716) Do you feel secure that He, Who is over the heaven (Allah), will not cause the earth to sink with you, then behold it shakes (as in an earthquake)?

(6717) Or do you feel secure that He, Who is over the heaven (Allah), will not send against you a violent whirlwind? Then you shall know how (terrible) has been My Warning?

(6719) Do they not see the birds above them, spreading out their wings and folding them in? None upholds them except the Most Beneficent (Allah). Verily, He is the All-Seer of everything.

(6721) Who is he that can provide for you if He should withhold His provision? Nay, but they continue to be in pride, and (they) flee (from the truth).

(6723) Say it is He Who has created you, and endowed you with hearing (ears), seeing (eyes), and hearts. Little thanks you give.

(67 24) Say "It is He Who has created you from the earth, and to Him shall you be gathered (in the Hereafter).

As you can see I have done really well being with being selective and only choosing " a few" verses!

I too love 1736!... it declares the freedom of your mind... and responsibility to think genuinely and for yourself.
From this you can begin to develop yourself without restraints. Lovely!
