I was active here a few years ago, and I want to share a project I have done, insha'allah.

I have been working with the text of the American English translation by Dr. T.B. Irving, Professor of Arabic and a convert to Islam. I re-typed it, stripping his comments, and published a nice clean handbook version for my own dawa work.

Then I fed the text through a speech synthesizer for an internet audio stream.

    http//tinyurl.com/quranradio

I hope you enjoy it. I still love you all for your love of the Qur'an over all other sources. I wish we could just flush hadith down the toilet finally, and all unite against the shirk of the Arabs of Arabia, especially concerning the Haram.

Is a true hajj (one acceptable to Allah) even possible today? Receiving a Saudi stamp on your passport is the same as bowing before a man, why? ..because it is an act of submission to an authority other than Allah, and the pilgrims are so ignorant as they tour the ultra-modern Kaba theme park with its luxury resort hotels.

Some days I have difficulty turning to the Ancient House because of who now owns it, but the command of Allah Almighty in the Qur'an was not conditional. We have to face it.. shirk and all.

ultra-modern Kaba theme park with its luxury resort hotels.

Haha, I agree with this. Am I the only one who boils when I see the huge clock tower next to Masjid Al-haram? Knowing all the rich folks are chilling in some luxury suite whilst ordinary people are made to suffer in the heat?
God I hate Saudi Arabia (Allah forgive me)

Thank you, Mariam. I know how you feel.. Allah bless you and forgive us.

I do fight against written hadith, but I still don't feel like I belong to this forum, because I believe the 5 prayer times were sent down along with the Book.

          Well welcome back

Do you think God will ask of us to do the impossible? surely not. so in other words I believe hajj is possible today.

I don't think flushing hadiths down the drain will secure and unite all muslims problems. I think many muslims adopt islam because they were brought up in it, i think many people do as they do because of social discourses and norms. practises becomes rites which then turn into norms.

hadiths aren't really the problem. the problem i believe is within ourselves. our inertia in staying stagnant. our self pity and desire to have or to be but our unwillingness to do, to discover, to read, to change. truly mankind was created weak 428.

          Salam

Allah never said he would protect almasjid alharam until the Last Day sister! Only the Qur'an is under Divine protection. Surely, nothing is impossible within amrihi, but today, it would have to be a hajj like the Prophet's hajj - a hajj of conquest, because baytullah has reverted to the way it was before Islam. And this is one of the many proofs I have that Islam as a valid world religion is dead - has been dead for 88 years and rotting from internal corruption as we can clearly see in the helpless state of the muslim people manipulated by Western powers. It seems all they can do is take refuge in Secular countries now.. but I should stop here before I start talking about the coming Arab slaughter.

              Peace a-sm.

God has spoken through the old prophets and through Hiis last prophet.

His " Evolution " process is being carried out exactly as predicted in the scriptures. His new nation/people are in the embryonic stage.

God bless the generation that is going to fulfil " Chapter 110" and all His believers.

              Peace.

                I agree with you @a-sm!

I have huge doubts about the hajj as it is performed today, too.
Very interesting is your thought about Allah preserving the Qur'an, and not the Masjid alHaram...
The deplorable state of the Muslims today is the proof that they are, almost all, under the Satan's spell! When one sees their way of life and overall backwardness, one would never accept Islam ever, except those whom Allah Himself directs to the right Path!
However I agree with you that one has to abide with the Word of Allah in the Qur'an!
Therefore, here there are also people who do and respect the five daily contact-prayers, as I am one of them. )
                Peace

                PS
The audio sample you offered is really horrible to listen to, I do not think one should present the Qur'an-ic message in such a way!
There is the audio of Saheeh International English translation rendition, read in English with a beautiful voice by Ibrahim Walk.

Thanks for the feedback.. not beautiful and relaxing like music, but I thought the computer recital was beneficial for two reasons there is no ego in it, and it gives the message an other-worldly feeling since the voice isn't human.

As for translations, Irving is the best in modern English I have ever found. He was an American convert and a professor of Arabic language. I recommend the Sahih International translation should be avoided because it is basically a derivative copy/gloss of the hated Saudi translation by Hilali-Khan.

@good logic, I understand your position, and I respect it, but my analysis of history and the Qur'an leads me to believe that 110 happened 1400 years ago, and the ummah has been in decline since the Mongol invasion. 1924 was the final decapitation. there is no coming Mahdi savior.. there will be no Islamic revival.. what goes up must come down, and rather than hoping we are on the cusp of the birth of some new powerful era in Islamic history like Jews and Christians, the Qur'an teaches that the victory was the permanent establishment of the word of Allah, and the only thing coming now is the Hour.

                    Peace a-sm.

I do not believe in the coming of anyone except what the Qoran teaches . Qoran does not teach the coming of a Mehdi or Messiah...etc.

What I was talking about is this and next generations ( a spread at least?) that will appreciate the Qoran, study it, value it for what it should be valued! ie it is from the Lord of the universe and its contents should be taken seriously!

They will be shown the signs in the heavens and in themselves until they realise it is the truth ( Even if it takes until the day of judgement).

May the Lord bless you and all past/future believers.

                    Peace.

Thank you for pointing out that about the Sahih translation, I did not know that.
Inspired by your post I read huge parts of Irving's translation, and being quite good and handy I find it not so very good, besides this

The Qur'an The First American Version. By Thomas B. Irving.

Just as Ahmad 'Ali sought to produce a contemporary translation, so did Thomas Irving, an American convert to Islam who changed his name to Ta'lim 'Ali. While Irving provides a useful introduction to the Qur'an, its language, and previous translation history, his own translation is fundamentally flawed. While seeking to stick to linguistic accuracy, Irving makes some basic linguistic errors. Arabic words are built from three-letter roots to which are added prefixes, infixes, suffixes, and vowels, and their context can lead to a wide range of meanings. For example, Irving translated ahl ad-dhikr both as "people of the reminder" and "people of long memories" instead of "people of remembrance." In the latter example, he misses the fact that the Qur'an is referring to Jewish scholars who, based on the Biblical command of zakhor (to remember) were at the time of Muhammad referred to as "the people of remembrance."

Many Muslims reject the subtitle, "The First American Version," because it sounds too much as if the Qur'an is being put into a paradigm of the various versions of the Bible?an idea not welcome to Muslim scholars who feel that multiple versions lead to corruption of the text. The translation has never been in great demand, and since Irving's death in 2002, there can be no revision; so, it is likely that, without the interest and subsidy from Islamic institutions, the version will simply be another forgettable effort.

As for me, I stick with the best English translation and the only one authorized, by Dr. Rashad Khalifa, PhD. the messenger of the covenant.

by saying this, u just flushed whole of your hard work down the toilet.

I feel ashamed at my crass remark now. Please forgive me and my foul mouth. The thing is I actually love hadith, as long as they are not written but kept as oral tradition and not followed like the revealed text. For example, I just learned yesterday that Abu Bakr sold his orchard before he died and willed it to the Muslim treasury. Why? to repay the money he took as salary while he was in office. This inspires me, to hear examples of the high character of the Prophet and his companions, but everything on a balanced scale. I hate when a jumua khutba is nothing more than a string of ahadith with no ayat.

I do not believe in the coming of anyone except what the Qoran teaches . Qoran does not teach the coming of a Mehdi or Messiah...etc.

peace, good logic. alhamdu lillah! I misunderstood your embreo analogy.

While Irving provides a useful introduction to the Qur'an, its language, and previous translation history, his own translation is fundamentally flawed. While seeking to stick to linguistic accuracy, Irving makes some basic linguistic errors.

I am obligated to say I think this is an unfair criticism. Every translation has its good and bad points, because no translation can be perfect, but to claim "fundamentally flawed" is too harsh, and I hope this reviewer is forgiven for putting such condemnation on a great work by a great muslim. The error he cites is pathetically minor and actually well within the limits of interpretation. Those on this forum should love that Dr. Irving is primarily a linguist and not a hadith scholar, so his perspective is not as biased by previous tafsir.
