Is Salawat is the plural for solaa??

about the word as-salawati in 2238, a translation in my local language gives the word as-salawat means "Doa for forgiveness" and not solaa(s).
He gave the same intrepetation for 999 and 9103 where "wa-salawati alrosooli" is interpreted as " Doa for forgiveness from the messengger"

i know salawat have saveral meanings in the arabic language, is "doa for forgiveness" such as

"Salawatun" = blessing from 2157
" Salawatun" = synagogeus- prayer place for the jews 2240

so can we accept the salawat for "doa for forgiveness"?

I cant accept that. The following is my opinion based on research

salat/solaa = literally means go/turn towards
salawat = literally means many or multiple turning/going towards

(Above info. taken from 7531-32 of al quran and further weighted by its valid application in every single verse where slw occurs in al quran)

what is your translation of 999? is it the plural for salaa/salat?
If the salawat is accepted as the plural for salaa, would there be a contradiction of 999 and 6162?
Because from my understanding of 6162, salat is Only for God.
Say ?My salat, and my offerings, and my life, and my death, are all to God the Lord of the worlds.?

So how could the prophet in 999 offer salawat(plural for salat) to the Nomads/Arabs(Humans)?

i have spoken to the traslator and he says he refer to Lane's Lexicon for the meaning of words in his translation, and i can't confirm his saying(salawat = prayer/doa for forgiveness) since i dont have lane' lexicon.

He also used salawat = prayer for forgiveness in 2238

(interestingly, if one looks at most of the possible meanings given in Lane for slw, one can see this core connotation/implication. In my opinion, this is one of the greatest discoveries I was able to appreciate, in the whole slw topic)

2240 has been discussed quite a bit in this forum. Feel free to use the "search" function above. During those discussions, I did not see any translation that went against the core/literal meaning of slw that I gave you. E.g. IF the context is indeed places, then a place where multiple or many going/turning towards occurs fits nicely. Considering it would likely be the mumineen upholding/maintaining such places, it could be considered as "oratories". IF it is not discussing places, then "multiple going/turning towards OR commitments OR links/bonds/connections OR blessings, also fits nicely. See 2157 where "salawatun" also occurs.

If some people remember, perhaps they will post the specific threads in which alternative translations were done/discussed.

Your understanding is different to mine. salat is just a word, like any other word. This word is not exclusively for The God. The word applies to whatever is in the context. It just so happens that in 6162 The God is the object of reference. That does not mean one extrapolates this occurrence to conclude the word slw is exclusively tied to The God in every single occurrence in al quran. This would make no logical sense. This is even testified to by al quran itself. I touched upon this in my article, giving an analogy. You can read it here

I have Lane's Lexicon. In it, it states one possible meaning of slw is "prayer/supplication" etc. It probably does give an example of "prayer for forgiveness" in it. Even if it did, this would not change my understanding one bit. The God gives us "salawat" in 2157. The God does not give "prayers for forgiveness" to anyone.
To translate salat=prayer has posed problems for traditional translators. Yusuf Ali translates exact same words differently in different verses. This is well documented, and was famously called the "solaa shuffle" by Aidid Safar. You can read about that in his book, available from here.

The number of slw may not be as crucial as first thought due to regular/timed slw commands being addressed to Muhammad in the singular. My study of this particular aspect is still in its infancy though.

For those who like a little bit of esoteric thought... I think no-one would argue that slw is an important concept in al quran / islam / al-deen. One of the meanings of slw is "Central portion of the back, portion from where the tail of an animal comes out, the rump", in otherwords, it has the direct implication of the central-part, the spine, the backbone! Let me ask, what is the fundamental foundation of our development in this life? Surely, it is to go/turn towards.

And what does the spine/backbone do.... it helps us to stand straight/upright.

I agree, commitments fits realy nicely in the verse, but is it one of the meanings for salawat? I cant find any translation(except for Aidid's translation) that uses comintments for salawat.

The God gives us "salawat" in 2157. The God does not give "prayers for forgiveness" to anyone.

i think multiple meanings words in the Quran is nothing new. For example the word hadith can mean a dream or saying or etc..

In my current understanding, salawat 2238 means "prayer/duaA for forgivenss" which will solve the problem.
Because if we try to force salawat = Salat(S) then the verse will contradict it self. But it is only my opinion.

Lane does not give specific "commitment" but it is implied. It is also implied from al quran, 7531-32. I do know it occurs in other lexicons (brother mh has it in a Slavic lexicon, it may occur in others too).

Its ok, but not as good as the literal understanding.

But have you consider 3159?

3159 changes nothing. The God is the one giving/sending slw in 2157, this is not the case in this verse.
