Being " dumb" is not an issue.
God is asking for concentration. It means do not let your mind/thoughts wonder. Many other ways helps a person concentrate.

I think the normal translation does specifically talk about not being "too loud" or "too quite", Now how did you go to the concentration bit?

I deduced it. For me " iqami" salah/salat/sala is both mental and physical. A private time to connect to my creator.
Notice how I used the word " Iqami" so that i do not have to spend a lot of posts justifying what I do.
I will also mention " Kharru" Sujadan , to justify my physical prostration in my prayer to my creator.
All GOD s different creatures perform their own different " sujud" and their own different " Islam" to their creator.
You may believe differently, as I gather from your posts. That is fine, so long as it is your choice and not imposed on you.
I also agree with others that sala/salah/salat without " iqam" means something else . Sujud without " kharru" likewise.

Voice projection is a huge benefit in public speaking and lecturing. Many people tend to speak too quickly, too low, too loud, or are just plain lazy.

Here's what Ayman wrote back in 2004
We should not make things forbidden that The God did not forbid. The God NEVER says that reading the great reading silently or "salat" silently is "mo7arama"/forbidden. When the context from the sign in 17106-111 is taken into account, then things can be easily understood.
17106 clearly talks about reading on PEOPLE.
17107-109 start with an order to "say" (to PEOPLE).
17110 also starts with "say" (to PEOPLE) so like the signs before it there are other PEOPLE involved.
17111 also starts with "say" (to PEOPLE)When one looks at the whole context and not just pick one verse, it becomes abundantly clear that the context is learning/"salat" with other people present that we SAY the message to. Moreover, the signs provide a clear link between the command in 17106 to READ to others "3ala mukuth" and the implementation of that command through the learning process in 17110 with the moderate voice.
I think what it comes to is that when you have a group study/discussion about the reading or giving a lecture you shouldn't be screaming, like some sheikh on an islamic program on tv. Nor should you be whispering when you have an audience. So choose a tone in between. Make your voice audible and clear, but do not raise your voice and sound like a donkey.
