Lifeless body on a throne??
-
There is nothing perplexing in the episode. The point in time is when he was a Prince, not King. The princely activities are mentioned by instance of his interest in horses, resulting in slackening in time management. He himself realized it, and then checked himself.
Allah the Exalted subjected him to an irking experience by causing the placement of a dummy on his Chair. It was even otherwise a point of concern, security lapse---how a dummy got on the chair of the Prince despite security circles around his palace.
He reflected. What does the presence of a dummy on one's Chair--that symbolizes power and authority reflect? A Monotonous king!! routine affairs of rulres assigning much time in seeing and enjoying horses at the cost of losing time management?
Thereafter, see what he is asking after turning from his reflective time period.
Know the fact that We had indeed subjected Sulie'maan to an irking experience.
We had caused placing a dummy upon his Seat.
Afterwards having reflected he had turned to us, praying;
"O my Sustainer Lord, I request you the Exalted to overlook for my slackening in time management.
And unlike dummy-monotonous kingdoms, you the Exalted grant me unique kingship which might not be possible for a single one after me to acquire it.
Undeniably, You the Exalted are certainly the Benefactor-the One Who bestows". -

Here is RK s translation
We thus put Solomon to the test; we blessed him with vast material wealth, but he steadfastly submitted.*
*3834*3834 & 41 Solomon and Job represent both ends of the testing spectrum. We are put to the test through wealth, health, or lack of them, to see if we serve/worship God Alone under all circumtances.
( A body on a chair does not make sense? hence i agree the expression means the highlighted words.)Check all information given.

Peace.Perhaps it could only be RK relating with "vast material wealth". Otherwise chair is symbol for power, authority, rule. A man with vast material wealth can be said to have nuisance value in society but is not associated with power.

Peace mubashir55,
I prefer the RK translation into English, here is a short list of comparative verses.
038.034
Walaqad fatanna sulaymana waalqayna AAala kursiyyihi jasadan thumma anaba
YUSUFALI And We did try Solomon We placed on his throne a body (without life); but he did turn (to Us in true devotion)
PICKTHAL And verily We tried Solomon, and set upon his throne a (mere) body. Then did he repent.
SHAKIR And certainly We tried Sulaiman, and We put on his throne a (mere) body, so he turned (to Allah).
KHALIFA We thus put Solomon to the test; we blessed him with vast material wealth, but he steadfastly submitted.022.015
SHAKIR Whoever thinks that Allah will not assist him in this life and the hereafter, let him stretch a rope to the ceiling, then let him cut (it) off, then let him see if his struggle will take away that at which he is enraged.
KHALIFA If anyone thinks that GOD cannot support him in this life and in the Hereafter, let him turn completely to (his creator in) heaven, and sever (his dependence on anyone else). He will then see that this plan eliminates anything that bothers him.039.045
Wa-itha thukira Allahu wahdahu ishmaazzat quloobu allatheena la yu/minoona bial-akhirati wa-itha thukira allatheena min doonihi itha hum yastabshiroona
YUSUFALI When Allah, the One and Only, is mentioned, the hearts of those who believe not in the Hereafter are filled with disgust and horror; but when (gods) other than He are mentioned, behold, they are filled with joy!
KHALIFA When GOD ALONE is mentioned, the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter shrink with aversion. But when others are mentioned beside Him, they become satisfied.006.112
Wakathalika jaAAalna likulli nabiyyin AAaduwwan shayateena al-insi waaljinni yoohee baAAduhum ila baAAdin zukhrufa alqawli ghurooran walaw shaa rabbuka ma faAAaloohu fatharhum wama yaftaroona
PICKTHAL Thus have We appointed unto every prophet an adversary - devils of humankind and jinn who inspire in one another plausible discourse through guile. If thy Lord willed, they would not do so; so leave them alone with their devising
KHALIFA We have permitted the enemies of every prophet - human and jinn devils - to inspire in each other fancy words, in order to deceive. Had your Lord willed, they would not have done it. You shall disregard them and their fabrications. The list is very long.
Peace O0

Mazhar, i do like your understanding, it's innovative by far.
However, i myself have never understood the meaning in the instances of 3834.
The Arabic word used GASADA could mean (inanimate object, unresponsive etc, as per the Golden Calf which was also described as GASADA (7148, 208.
People who do not eat for nutrition are described as GASADA (21I could see how RK translated it as "we blessed him with vast material wealth", maybe because Solomon could support himself without the need of other things, just like a body which can support itself without taking in any nutrition, which is described as GASADA (21

Nothing innovative therein. Just the translation of text by taking care of nutual relationship of words therein which is the primary course for reading and understanding foreign language text.
is Verb Perfect; First person; Plural/Sovereign Singular; Masculine; ; Subject pronoun, in nominative state; - Verbal noun. This signifies causing the throwing-placing of something in such way that it becomes face to face to other person.
This Verbal sentence links back to the Previous Verb--- . It is not grant of "vast material wealth" but that exerience by which he was irked.
is its direct object , indefnite noun in accusative case and absolute state with Tanween, denotes any structured body, dummy. A man also has a a body, but it is not man.
Then comes ?? which does not signify continutity with the preceding happening. It indicates time gap and disimilarity between the preceding and suceding clauses.
And Prepositional Phrase coupled with Possessive Phrase relates to the Verb. It is grammatically one indivisible unit for meanings and translation "upon the Chair of him".
RK could innovatively think like this, "We caused the placing of vast material of wealth upon the chair of him", and then simplify it for his audience "we blessed him with vast material wealth", becoming "vast material of wealth" . I do not know what esle is playing with the words?

quite an interesting translation.
Which one is it, since that wording does not appear on your site?
Thank you -
Salamun Alaik, GODsubmitter.
Thanks, I am sorry I did not update the site. Actually you know that work on Qur'aan is an unedning project. I am slowly uploading word by word analysis with grammatical parsing trying to best convey the perception and connotations of the text. Morphological and syntactic analysis alongwith colouring each word for dictionary also is time consuming since am not using computing programmes but doing it manually.

Thank you for the answer.
Congratulations for your site, it is quite interesting!
And, good luck with your work.
G-d bless!

- To explain this verse, some of the commentators advance the most fantastic stories, almost all of
them going back to Talmudic sources. Razi rejects them all, maintaining that they are unworthy of
serious consideration. Instead, he plausibly suggests that the "body" (jasad) upon Solomon's throne
is an allusion to his own body, and - metonymically - to his kingly power, which was bound to remain
"lifeless" so long as it was not inspired by God-willed ethical values. (It is to be borne in mind
that in classical Arabic a person utterly weakened by illness, worry or fear, or devoid of moral values,
is often described as "a body without a soul".) In other words, Solomon's early trial consisted in
his inheriting no more than a kingly position, and it rested upon him to endow that position with
spiritual essence and meaning.

...or, it can be interpreted as G-d gave Solomon an intuitive insight that the spectral dummy represents an invention that people will fabricate later about him and forge history (see Pazuzu's thread "Road of the Patriarchs" - if we accept those claims), and since the Qur'an should be a reminder for all times, it is for us too, to remind us that the main thing is to repent always and return to G-d.
