spiders parable:-29:41
-
Salaams all,
something which is difficult to comprehend-what does Allah mean by this parable? This is what my current view is anyways
029.041
YUSUFALI The parable of those who take protectors other than Allah is that of the spider, who builds (to itself) a house; but truly the flimsiest of houses is the spider's house;- if they but knew.
029.042
YUSUFALI Verily Allah doth know of (every thing) whatever that they call upon besides Him and He is Exalted (in power), Wise.
029.043
YUSUFALI And such are the Parables We set forth for mankind, but only those understand them who have knowledge. There are things Allah provides other Awlyaa?s Can?t In a way Similer to things our Houses provide which a spiders house does not.
OurHouses Provide protection against enamies,animals,insets,wheather.
And is for resting, eating, amusing, peace and quiet IN
SECURITYSpiders housecan only partially provide some protection against crawling insects-as
Can see.Salaams all.

I know no arabic, so please help on this one. Never thought about the spider parable - suppose need to rethink. Just something that occurred to me - if masjid was translated incorrectly, then bayt could be too - could it be possible that these two words mean similar things? Also I think it should be viewed symbolically.
i.e. the house of the spider (its web) is a beautiful thing to behold, always causing wonder in those that see it and witness it being built. Respect for the creature that made it increases greatly when we see the 'house' it has built for itself. In a similar manner, the 'awliya' build themselves a belief construct that may seem grand in it's nature, they sit in the middle of it. It is 'sticky' so anyone that passes by gawping in awe can get pulled into this belief construct that surrounds this person. But most spiders inject their prey with paralysing poisons, so they dont move, they become 'puppets' on the end of strings for the spider to manipulate and devour later.
The flimsiness of the 'house' is only exposed when someone with a mindset capable of looking at the web as what it is - a trap - comes along. It can easily be destroyed by correct reasoning when someone isnt blinded by the grandeur of the 'house'.
We must also look at the scale of things - spiders are quite small in comparison to humans. Strong beliefs versus small, weak ones.
Just a few random babblings - tell me what you think.

That was a far deeper consideration than I gave it. Your point of beauty brings to mind this verse
when you see them (hypocrites), you are impressed by their physical stature (634)
That was a good insight on the spider stringing its pray like puppets and how flimsy it is when seeing thr forrest without the trees, reminds me of orthodox religion. You clever one, I didn't get that until a couple of re-reads. Good work.
My thoughts on this are that when one walks through the forrest they often get spider webs caught in their hair on their journey, POOF! The house is gone in the blink of an eye. It was not even protected against one who was not trying to harm it, a flimsey house indeed.
If we seek protection from other than God then we dissappear, since God is One everything originates from that sum. Therefore there is nothing else to save us but God. I hold the body to be our house, but it could be used as an example of other ideals as well.

Regarding Bayt(house). I translate it as house, but with the symbolic understanding that when you sorround yourself with the God's restrictions, you are protected and secure, just like our human bodies are houses, our clothes, and our buildings.

Peace,
In my research one thing was paramount; spiders don?t LIVE in their webs. I think more pondering is required.
1743 And such are the Parables We set forth for mankind, but ONLY those understand them who have KNOWLEDGE.
Now what about 1741 is it that ?only those who have knowledge? will understand? I think the web idea is too easy, even those less endowed with knowledge, if they have ever seen a web, will claim to understand this parable.
Also 1741 Those who ?take? awala? (the spider)?she ?takes? a bayt. Take is not build, or makes, those are different verbs. I don?t think I have yet understood this verse.

Peace be upon you Grourself
How about considering the way in which spiders colonise an area?
They take over a habitat, a house if you will of other creatures.
Spread their traps and lay in waiting. You are correct in stating that spiders do not live on their webs, because the apparent web is the trap, the place in which the spider lives is connected to this web, usually by an elaborate network of thick 'lines'. The trap is an extension of the house? For example funnel weavers construct horizontal mats and wait in a funnel at the end of the web for a passing insect to land on the sheet. Do they actually live in the web if not on it?
The web idea may sound 'easy', do you also feel that it is a simple explanation? The simplest explanation is usually the best.

I agree. I also think it could be referring to the socialization of the spider and your reference to taking over a colony is thought provoking.
As far as science is concerned there is nothing frail about a spiders web. They are still attempting to duplicate it's strength and elasticity.
I'm convinced the bayt is a system, hence socialization but the other form of the verb buyut has been understood as a physical house. Perhaps what I am considering plural as in...the frailest of houses, is incorrect. I am sure that those who take guardians/protectors besides God are losers. I will compare what else we are told in the Reading about these losers ) and perhaps I'll get a clearer understanding of bayt, buyut etc.

Peace be pon you Grourself,
Frailest of houses from the human perpective. There is only one "house" that mankind continuously wipes from thier faces after having walked through and destroyed it. People sweep them out of thier houses. Wether destroys them, etc.
