Is God Almighty
-
The concept of god being "almighty" doesn't have anything to do with free will. You're speaking of omniscience, or the state of being all-knowing... If, according to the accepted scriptures, God actually knows the future, then "free will" doesn't exist - since that implies that your future, including all of your currently-unmade decisions and actions, is already predetermined, and there's nothing that you can specifically do to change the outcome of your life. You're, in a sense, just going along with what's written down of you, consciously or not. If God isn't all-knowing, though, then your future isn't predetermined, and you're actually "freely" plotting your life according to your own actions and judgements.
In the end, it all depends on your personal characterization of God. Many people see him/her/it in many different ways...

Peace be upon yuo guys as well.
God Almighty has given us some freedoms. Some of our fait is determined by us (e.g steal and you might get caught and go to jail)
while other things are not by us (e.g we are bound to die) -

Or you can see it as Allah is beyond time as we can think of it. (We cannot really understand Allah anyway). So you can see it as us going through life with free will, having real choices at every step... but we are trapped within time, while Allah is not bound by time, and therefore is able to know the future and all that will happen. To US it has not happened yet, and we make it up as we go, but to Allah, all of time/history/future is like a painting which Allah is outside of, or at least not bound by. Allah can "see" all of time from outside of time. We are talking about two different perspectives. That's at least my current and meager attempt at combining free will and omniscience.

Hi
I am wondering. Is God almighty?
If God is almighty, do we then have our own free will?
Who determines our fait God or our selves?
Peace.
Shalom aleikhem,
Consider yesterday, specific things happened in the world, even though the possibilities were endless. If I ask you about tomorrow, you will agree that the possibilities are endless, yet as tomorrow comes to an end, and we step into the day after tomorrow, we will see that specific events occurred. What this means is that what happens in the world or a person's life is fixed in a way, but is governed by the possibilities.
Now, let us see "how not to misinterpret" what I said above. If you murder a person today, can you go to the judge in the court and blame it on the argument that "it was destined, the universe may have infinite possibilities, but only one specific event dominates. Therefore, let me go, I am not responsible, it was predetermined" ??
Ofcourse anyone would find such an argument absurd. Because , despite the universe having only one fixed future, it was your personal choice that lead you into the murder. Despite the universe having only one fixed future, you were warned in advance of the consequences of your action if you so wish to carry them out.
So, let us now consider the case for God. An entity with so much knowledge should be able to figure out outcomes in advance. What matters is if that entity lets you know in advance about wrong/right. Since God is not making the active choice of your wrong action, He can not be held accountable in anyway. Just because my tutor knows in advance that insincere students like me eventually fail the degree, does not mean that He/She is accountable for it. (just an example)
Anyways, you run into problems when you picture human beings as the "centre of atrraction", the "reason", the "meaning" of this huge universe we leave in. Ofcourse, all parts of this giant system, the universe, complement each other. That way, the rivers are meant for us and we are meant for them. But most theologians and religious folks often find comfort in the idea that the universe exists because of us. Kind of a selfish-arrogant attitude. The way I see it is that all parts of the universe exists for each other. It has to, there is no option.
We will stop running into such paradoxes of accountability the day we stop being arrogant and claim to have full understanding of the mind of God.
Peace

I completely agree with this. The repeated notion of the universe being created for human etc cannot hold weight if we look at the signs in the universe. We now know that the basic elements such as nitrogen in our dna, calcium in our teeth all comes from collapsing stars. We as species are just a small cog in the giant universe which all is dependant on each other as stages for each creation to be created. Reminds me of the verse that the universe was not created for amusement, it truly is a working masterpiece, an ongoing masterpiece from the Most High.

It depends on whether you apply logics or not.
It depends on your definitions.
If "almighty" means "anything", then no. Because ask yourself whether an "almighty" god can create a god more almighty than himself. Can an almighty god commit suicide? And so on.
That almighty has no bearing on free will, but omniscience has, was already pointed out and explained.
Finally, using logics, if what you believe determines what you believe you are a puppet. So you have alternatives that you decide on and apply how you see fit.

I remember growing up, my mother always told us that we have free will. She said that this was why...
She told us that God knows all that can be know and all that is, but, since the future does not exist until it becomes the present, God does not know what the future hold, as it has not come into being yet. She said that, in a world where everything past, present, and future was pre-determined, there could be no free will and we would just be puppets playing our parts. But, because the future doesn't exist until the moment it happens, we make decisions that influence our future and God knows our decisions.
I kind of agree with this. God knows all contingencies of the future, but, until we choose a path, God's knowledge is only about the contingencies.
This is why prayer works. In a pre-determined universe, where the future is 100% known and planned, prayer is meaningless as it can change nothing. However, if God created an open-ended universe then prayer can make a difference. God can respond to our prayers out of God's limitless mercy and we can be changed.
Now this may sound a bit off, but this is what I was taught.

3962 GOD is the creator of all things, and HE is in full control of all things.?
3967 They can never fathom ( or value!) the greatness of GOD. The whole earth is within HIS fist on the day of Resurrection; In fact the Universes are folded within HIS right hand. Be HE glorified, HE is much too high above needing partners.?
407 Those who serve the throne and all around it ( Angels?) glorify and praise their Lord and believe in HIM. (Totally submit!) And they ask forgiveness for those who believe. ( Among the humans) The Angels say? Our Lord, your mercy and your knowledge encompass all things..."
4015 Possessor of the highest rank and ruler of the whole dominion. ( in the heavens and the earth!)..."
4056 Surely those who argue against GOD s revelations without proof are exposing the arrogance that is hidden inside their chests, and they are not even aware of it. Therefore seek refuge in GOD; HE is the Hearer, the Seer.?
GOD is sufficient for all His creations including the humans. How " Great" is that? Beyond imagination!
Peace.

This is part of the Greatness of The Author of the Qoran also.
For those who claim there is no " 19 code " in Qoran or God has not counted the numbers
255
Recall that you said, "O Moses, we will not believe unless we see God, physically." Consequently, the lightning struck you, as you looked.*255 It is noteworthy that the word "GOD" in this verse is the 19th occurrence, and this is the verse where the people demanded "physical evidence." The Quran's mathematical code, based on the number 19, provides such physical evidence. Note also that 2+55=57=19x3.
Why is this no coincidence?
The word "God " ie " allah"is mentioned 18 times from , then from it is not mentioned at all. God uses " We" or "RAb" or " Me" in these verses, UNTIL where the word " Allah" ie God is mentioned for the " 19" time.
Of course it cannot be coincidence! Check it to see this physical evidence yourself? This one drop from the ocean of proof that God provides in Qoran.
Peace.
