LOL! Nope. I'm sure we're two different people. Alex isn't really my real name. I just use it as a nickname.

                                Salam to you all. )

I am 12 years old in age, believe it or not, but I am sure I am pretty mature than most of the kids my age. I am from Pakistan, living in Doha, Qatar. I was an ex-Sunni, now a Muslim who only follows God's law and no one else besides Him, and upholds the Quran as the best and the ONLY source of guidance. I have been one for one whole year and two months, and I am very proud of it. I think this was the most toughest decision I might have ever made in my little life of twelve years, supposedly because my whole life I've followed Hadith blindly just because my parents told me to. I had doubts in the beginning days, much like most of us, right? But the more I read about the True Islam, the more I feel that what path I chose is right. And now, thankfully I am free of all of that, and I am happy with following Quran, which is sufficient for me as my source of law.

It started back in 2011, somewhere between August and October, when I was searching on the topic, Hijab, if it was mandatory to wear it or not. The answers I found were no doubt all from Sunnis, some saying yes it is and if you don't, you'll go to hell (as if they're the one to decide that), then there were people who said it is but they can't force you, some say it only depends on your intentions. And I never really got a straight answer. I found it unfair that women are the ones who practically had to cover each and every inch of their body just so men don't lust after them, while men could go around practically half-naked. Where was the equity?

I searched on women rights in islam.

And that's where my problems started.

Truthfully, I never really knew what Hadiths and Sunnah were, I just heard about them and was told by my father to never insult them or else you'll go straight to hell. I did question them though, silently, my lifestyle of being a Sunni. And for years I followed these traditions without question. When I was only seven or eight, I used to think they were probably a part of Quran, perhaps a chapter in it.

Back to the point. That's where I found the Hadiths, the things it said about women, their enslavement to men, all of those things. I felt offended. I tried to ignore the worthlessness I was feeling, the nagging at my mind that repeated how unjust all of this was. I had minor emotional breakdowns and all of that.

Then I somehow came across a site named www.progressive-muslim.org. I read the website, the Hadiths that insulted not only women, but also God and the prophets, the absurdities, the violence (stoning to death, killing of apostates and people who refuse to pray etc), just so many things that felt so wrong, so NOT Islam. And the insults to our prophets, to God, they disgusted me beyond words.

And the verses of Quran that confirmed my suspicions, the ones that warned and ordered to follow nothing but the Quran. I had doubts in the beginning. Was I going the right path?

I read more and more, researched more and more on this. Turns out that these people had more answers, sensible ones at that.

I finally knew where I belong. I felt free of so many burdens. I just...felt free, period. I felt like I had all the answers of my religion, like I was finally on the right path. It was all so simple. I feel ashamed though, the way I used the Quran as something to only be read, sang and not understood, and using Hadith as a source of guidance.

Now I know the truth, and I am just glad to be on the right path. I'm just worried about my family is all.

May God guide them to the right path.

                                Salam sun

Those are the feelings can be felt by girls/women, if they know more and more about the hadiths, meanwhile at the same time they were taught to accept it, to believe that the hadith is the truth saying of the messenger who carrying the messages of God.

It is not easy. Even I still feel it sometimes, because many translations of the Qur'an are still supported by the hadith.

                                          boy or girl

                                          I'm a girl.

I think Alex.M is our young Sister, but I still don't know for sure. dear Alex.

Yup! Young sister. ) Thank you so much for the welcome. I suppose I could agree with you on that since I also feel that way sometimes, but I always end up reminding myself that God doesn't judge us by our gender but rather our righteousness and deeds, and that women and men are both equal in God's eyes.
