Peace be upon you Phenom,
How does self-righteously separating yourself from from others "grow" us?
Where did I say that?
It does nothing to build understanding and acceptance of differences. All that does is make people think you're too good for them.
yes, so I ask again, where did I say seperate yourself from people?
What grows us is TRUTH, so I ask you again, if Satans Birthday was a popular holiday amongst your families and friends, would you celebrate with them? And once you answer that, ask yourself what kind of holiday "the birth of G-d's PHYSICAL son" is, you will find that the foundation of that is SATANIC(rebellious to the Truth).
Let me ask you this, do you "self righteously" seperate yourself from "them" when you are in the food line, and they are ordering Pork and all kinds of food that is not good? Why not join in with them at the food line. Why not join the Homosexuals in thier misguidance to promote unity. Do you see the error in that?
-
As'Salaam,
I wake up each morning open my eyes, smile and say, "Alhamdulillah!" Then I celebrate the day by striving to share this gift of life Allah has bestowed upon me with others. I do not practice Islam out of a fear of Allah, but instead because of my love of Allah. If Allah is Ir'Rahman Ir'Rahim then why should we fear Hu? Maybe we should fear our ego... our sense of a "separate" self that often causes us to judge each other because we see "difference" instead of Oneness. Doesn't the Qur'an say that if Allah wanted us all to be the same Hu would have made us so?
Ma'Salaam,

So I guess you agree with drfazl that celebrations are not allowed in the Quran. Maybe you could show me the verse that says that, especially since we can find the verses on homosexuality and eating the flesh of swine. I thought we weren't supposed to forbid that which God has not forbid.
-
The same petty puritanical traits that are found amongst certain orthodox muslims are found in the Freeminds community....if they had their way we could not even say ''hello'' to each other...if you did maybe the next question would be where in the Quran does it say to say ''hello'' when greeting an associate? lol lol lol
-
Peace,
I dont think Idolfree means all celebrations are prohibited, but those that practice shirk are (let me know if I've misinterpreted you bro). Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Eid ul fitr a celebration that commits shirk? Don't people celebrate eid ul fitr because thats what they believe God commanded? What about all those prayer rituals that are practiced, don't they believe those were all sanctioned by God? If they do believe all this is sanctioned by God I would call it idolworship, and thus I do not believe we should be taking part in such activities. I would have to say the same goes for Christmas because of the fact that Christians claim it is the Birthday of Jesus (or to them the son of God), practicing a celebration like this to me is Idolworship. Even if we don't really believe in these celebrations but simply wish to participate then aren't we condoning such activities? I would say celebrations that dont practice idolworship would be alright to participate in.Peace

Salam all,
I think that we have to be very careful labelling people as Idolworshippers. The Qur'an says that the Idol worshippers are the ones that worship another GOD. Can someone explain to me how celebrating Eid is worshipping of another GOD? It may be wrong, it may be an extra -not asked for- prayer. However, I am not able to see it as idolworship.
I think that Idolworship is a word that should be reserved to the time when we are sure- beyond any doubt- of what we say. It is a big word. It is intimidating. It is a fundamentalist idea and very intolerant. Lastly, accusing people without enough proof is a sin in the eye of GOD.

Dear All
Celebrations not allowed in Quran
005.114 Said Jesus the son of Mary "O Allah our Lord! Send us from heaven a table set (with viands), that there may be for us - for the first and the last of us - a solemn festival and a sign from thee; and provide for our sustenance, for thou art the best Sustainer (of our needs)."
In my opinion celebrations is not againts the Quran since there is no direct order to reject them.
But to me Eid is nothing religious. It is just a time for me to gather with my family and frens.Ashraff

Salaam Mazher,
Do you not ever gather with all your relatives!? Do you not ever miss them!? Do you not ever want to know their news and the news of their children and their elderly? Do you not ever want to share with them their hopes and their fears? Do you not ever wish them the best and show them your love and support!? Do you not ever give/receive gifts!? How do you deal with your roots, your womb/blood connections!? How can you deal with all the feelings and emotions you have for them!? Doesn't closeness appeal to you!?
Do you, at all, smile!? A cheerful/open/kind face is one great charity that costs practically nothing )Absolutely, but almost all my ties with my family members, relatives and even some of my good old friends have been cut off, if not totally. This is mainly because of "religious reasons" (leaving their community in which I was born in - the worst of the so-called Muslim kind) and somewhat "family matters". All I have is my wife and kids, and a couple of outside friends whom I am very seldom in touch with.
Your life experience is, clearly, way different than mine! Most importantly is that you are ok now, and Al Hamdu le Ellah you have your wife and kids, all well and around you. That is a great blessing )
The situation in the Islamic countries cannot be so bad on men. They can pick themselves up and just leave! For the women, it is a real tragedy! cry
I have a cousin who left to live abroad and I can't even bring her name up! I miss her so, so much but I know nothing about her. We use to be very close when we were little, along with the other children in the family, but now her space is empty, and I can't hold my tears every time her image comes to my mind cryOn the contrary, Eid is not the only time when one meets/visits their family members, relatives or friends just to be in touch or to get together. That is far-fetched and is simply based on "religious grounds", I believe.
We do meet each other all during the year, of course, moving around from one house to another. That is the norm. But in big occasion, i.e. weddings, funerals, celebrating for a graduation, etc..and of course the Eid anniversary, the whole family would gather in one place, under one roof. For the Eid, it would usually be the big grandfather's. That makes it much easier on everybody to meet everybody else, and save us the time spent on the road )
But there are still some few houses that we still have to visit, because there are some elderly who are too old to leave their place and join the rest, so we would visit them also, usually before the Eid lunch time. But why should people get together at Eid time in particular, and prepare a huge feast and give gifts, etc? Maybe because the energy is very high at this particular time, after going through the fasting and the big number of Ssalawatt in Ramadhan which kept everybody occupied and busy away from spending much time with others. So people would be so eager to meet each other again and congratulate each other for their patience and perseverance. So the level of energy is really high and very emotional at that special time of the year.
In Eid Al Adha, the celebration energy is less, because almost everybody would be in Hajj, away from their homes, and when they come back, they would be very exhausted, so we, the ones who didn't go to Hajj would visit them separately, every one in his/her own house and the atmosphere would be quite different, more holy than jolly! roll
Well, that is my humble analysis!Taj

If I agreed to that I would say that I agree to that. I do not agree to no "joy and pleasure" but I do understand that TOO MUCH joy and pleasure makes the physical body react in the same way as fear does. It is a PUMPED UP state and is not meant to be sustained for long periods of time.
Maybe you could show me the verse that says that, especially since we can find the verses on homosexuality and eating the flesh of swine. I thought we weren't supposed to forbid that which God has not forbid.
So let me get this right, you made an accusation above, stating that I agree with no celebrations, then you go on to build upon that accusation, which is actually a false accusation, is that right? I never said I disagree with celebrations, I only said I understand the reasoning, but that the Doctor is extending it too far. In fact, let me copy and paste my words that I said above since you did not comprehend them the first time.
"So I do understand what Doctor is saying, but we have to also keep in mind that we cannot prohibit what the God has not prohibited."

Peace be upon you Peace,

Yes, you are correct. In addition, even those celebrations for righteouss concepts should be PEACEFUL events, not a lot of OVER EXCITEMENT, because of the effects it has on us. Our RULING "emotion" should be PEACE.
PEACE be upon you all. wink
-
Peace be upon you Tariqsayed,
I am confused. But I do agree with what Omari said. What is prohibited in Quran should be prohibited - not what is not mentioned. As we all agree, Quran is detailed and complete. Allah will not leave something that is important out of Quran.
The God prohibited following other than Him, isn't that enough of a prohibition NOT TO engage in celebrations of falsehood?

Peace be upon you Loli,
005.114 Said Jesus the son of Mary "O Allah our Lord! Send us from heaven a table set (with viands), that there may be for us - for the first and the last of us - a solemn festival and a sign from thee; and provide for our sustenance, for thou art the best Sustainer (of our needs)."
The part that is translated above , I believe, should be feast, not festival.
But again, I am not against celebrating, only celebrating a celebratin dedicated to other than the One God.
I think for manyof us to understand this in terms of Eid, we will have to dispell the misconception of "ramadhan", but the issue of Christmas, I really cant believe this even needs explanation.
-
Peace be upon you,
The God's system is not built around our desires/wants, it is built on Truth.
So no matter how we FEEL about "eid" and "christnmas", we have to live TRUTH.

Al-Qur'an, 10 (Yunus )
As'Salaam Alaikum All,
Joy and Happiness are the reward for living righteously, they are our gifts from Allah in this world and the hereafter.
I celebrate every moment of everyday because I have not always been righteous in my behavior, it is only through the Compassion and Mercy of Allah that I have been able to overcome the evil whispering of my ego and surrendered to the will of Allah. Now my heart is continuously filled with joy, love for Allah. We are too quick to judge each other's motivations and reasons for doing what we do, but Allah is the only judge and the Best Knower of what is in our hearts. We cannot second-guess what Allah has determined to be our proportion of understanding at any given time, or our state of being, or the being of others. There is nothing wrong with joy, as long as we do not attach ourselves to it, this holds true for any emotion, as they all have their place in the composition of our being "human", but they are not the sum total of our "Being"
In the Qur'an Allah removes the people who become a blight upon Hu's creation. If someone is allowed to exist and be, as all things exist through the will of Allah, who am I to forbid or make attempts to disallow what they do? I must look to see Allah's will being made manifest, so that I can learn the lesson of their existence.
These are just a few thoughts I have on this thread of discussion.Ma'Salaam,
Olusanysa -
Peace be upon you Osulanya,
I celebrate every moment of everyday because I have not always been righteous in my behavior
Indeed I understand what you mean, so let me be absolutely clear because I don't want to be misunderstood. Joy/happiness is a RESULT of PEACE, not a result of celebrating holidays.
We cannot celebrate every moment of everyday because that PUMPED UP feeling of celebration is not meant to be maintained. We can be thankful at every moment of every day, but to celebrate every moment would bring death to your physical body, ask a doctor if what I am saying is true or not.
So again, we maintain PEACE, and joy/happiness is a RESULT of Peace. So we go from peace to pleasure to peace to pleasure, while the rejector goes from pain to pleasure to pain to pleasure.

Hey there TAJ, salaams to you,
Where have you been all along? Good to hear from you again. Haven?t heard from AaRon as well for a loooong time. Hope life is keeping you abreast and sound by GOD?s grace and blessings.
Your life experience is, clearly, way different than mine! Most importantly is that you are ok now, and Al Hamdu le Ellah you have your wife and kids, all well and around you. That is a great blessing )
All praises are due to Allah. I realized that the problems/burdens created/lies within myself and hence the adjustments to further humble and attune to my surroundings and ways of life to that of my wife and kids and ofcourse others. It has surely not been easy for me but I must succumb to my untoward behaviour that would otherwise become detrimental, witnessing the conditions that I am in, knowing that my wife is 14 years younger and of entirely different culture.
The situation in the Islamic countries cannot be so bad on men. They can pick themselves up and just leave! For the women, it is a real tragedy! cry
In ?Islamic countries?, I believe religion of mullahs comes into play. Nevertheless, sadly but surely, I agree with you wholeheartedly.
I have a cousin who left to live abroad and I can't even bring her name up! I miss her so, so much but I know nothing about her. We use to be very close when we were little, along with the other children in the family, but now her space is empty, and I can't hold my tears every time her image comes to my mind cry
Would you mind summarizing a little about her situation as to what brings you tears of her image and a lost frined?
On the contrary, Eid is not the only time when one meets/visits their family members, relatives or friends just to be in touch or to get together. That is far-fetched and is simply based on "religious grounds", I believe.

Well, that is my humble analysis! My personal view on your shared thoughts are as follows
Certainly the occasions can bring joy (weddings, birthdays, graduations, sporting events, picnics, family/freinds reunions, etc.) and as well as sadness (death, funerals, health and family problems, divorces, financial setbacks, accidents, etc.), but these are all Natural Systems and Ways of Life and has no demeanor or significance to religious festives in the name of GOD such as Eid, Haj, Ramadhan, Ritual Salaat, tithes, to name a few, which are nothing but enforcements/encroachments/burdens scrutinized, manipulated and mandated in the name of GOD.
The ?kaba? in Mecca is a stone structure, a building, and everything to do with ?Arabic Religion? evolves and revolves around and surround it, to the extent that it has been specially designated as Allah?s House by Allah Himself, which apparently has been destroyed and rejuvenated several times. People literally run around this building and at Safah & Marwah back and forth like madmen, kissing its walls and floors, bellowing their voices upon this fashioned building by saying, ?O GOD, I?m here?, bowing and prostrating to it, drinking refrigerated ?ganga? water and naming it holy ?zum zum?, killing tons of animals, mercilessly trampling others, traveling/lodging/boarding expenses, shopping extravagaza, sightseeing tourism, etc., etc., and last but not least, the stone throwing contest at Minnah next door (near Allah?s House), where people shout and yell all kinds of nasty words by throwing pebbles at larger erected stones thought to be reminiscent of devils. How pathetic and insane that can get, yet the majority are blinded to their utter cynical paganistic fore-fatherly idolworshipping beliefs and continue to do so even after repeated reminders. Finally, they accuse and make a mockery of all other religions (specially the Jews, Hindus and Buddhists) of their idolworshipping acts and schemes, perhaps secretly admitting their creed for greed and outwardly proclaiming their innocence, all in the name of GOD and Muhammad.
No offense to you TAJ, but the facts of Arabic Religion are prominent, imminent and hilarious.
GOD Bless.
