It was a nice allegory.
And you are right that most humans follow their own ego and which will prevent them from entering Heaven.
This is why God says; "most people who believe do not do so without committing idol worship".
The ego is their idols. We, including myself, have to kill our egos, that we may not follow that crowd into Hell.
May God save us from the Hellfire!

God asks us to have patience that we may attain certainty.
Jumping to conclusions hastily will lead to disappointment.
God knows the innermost thoughts and what is in the hearts.
God will eventually bring out our true conviction.
And of course it is never too late to repent as long as we do not leave it till the point of death.

I think your conception of following own's ego is wrong. Only when you deny God and His authority by following your own ego is wrong, punishable. Thank you.

I think that the longing for absolute, undisputable certainty, like it happens to persons in love, reflects itself in these prolonged debates over things over and over. In itself I do not think it is bad if it is also accompanied by real compasion and patience. Human knowledge will always be partial, that is the reason why we will always want to go beyond where we are. That is part of our path of return to our source.
Apart from that, it is true, some times, some posters may show egos beyond reason, like if they were contemplating themselves in a big show where they take themselves for the great star. Well, that should not derail us nor make us pesimistic. Rather keep cool and keep patience.
I do not agree the part bout killing the ego. The ego also has its function in human existence, and it is not a matter of killing it and becoming blobs, rather to trascend it and go beyond it, to kill it would be cheating, particularly ourselves. They ego is there to go beyond it, to find our roots in the divine, but it serves a purpose.

You are right. If one finds his own clarity is better than the view points of many, it is not ego, but it means he is still following the better so that he continues to stay among the men of understanding. Instead of own's ego, the words own's clarity would make your point clear, I suppose.

Absolutely!!! this is what I believe 100%; listen carefully to what's being said, asking ALLAAH constantly for guidance. Insha alllaah you will then be guided; that is my faith, for that reason I read almost all the posts here. I have no fear that so and so could hypnotise me and take away my belief.
I was so surprised to see here, on this forum, where all sorts of dicussions are goes on but when a man with unusual tone came to tell us something different I felt people were putting their fingers in their ears, running away from him and calling him hypnotist. Where did their faith in ALLAAH disappear to, that they thought a human being would have power over ALLAAH; he could even turn them away from their deen?! I've been on this forum for a long time, and I mostly read, rather than contribute, I never expected that kind of reaction from free minds so I simply gave my observation.
After all we are living in the 21st century and if anyone claims to have links to such and such family we have the means to verify such claims, so why shun someone just because he used a few hadiths to verify his historical background? Why not read what he is saying and then question him, debate, instead of one after the other saying 'I am out', no further discussion?I think your conception of following own's ego is wrong. I can only speak for myself, I am not as "frozen" in one spot as you alledge, I maintain
that I am here to learn and enjoy the interaction of the forum. I am far far from knowing
much, and free minds is a good vehicle to grow in knowledge as well as a person.
Being wrong is not pleasant, but moving to the correct position even begrudgingly
has it's reward.Peace

Please do not take this thread as something personal or a sweeping generalization; this is only my observation about the majority in this forum. Like you, I too have learned a lot from Free-Minds, which has helped me understand many concepts, which were otherwise untouched. And the search goes on as sister Huruf says above 'the longing for absolute, undisputable certainty,' only to arrive at absolute, undisputable knowledge.
