This all changed when I was listening to my favourite sheikh, Khalid Yasin, and he was talking about how to beat your wife... I, being the hardcore feminist that I am, was of course shocked by this, so I listened to him and I was extremely angry.
How many people have had this similar experience? Your feeling good, iman through the roof, on the "straight path", listening to your favorite Sheikh one lecture after another...and then...BOOM..."What did he just say?!?!?!" you say out loud as your iman shatters.

Salaam alaikum
I was born a Muslim, but I don't consider myself one until I had hit the age of 11, that's when I found Allah and had strive to please him. By the age of twelve I went to an Islamic school, and they taught many hadiths, and even at the age of 12 I could see the faults in them but I accepted it anyway, hoping to become a better Muslim. It's funny cause I was encouraged and discouraged to read the Quran. I was trained to know that quran is only for Scholars and to stop wasting my time, and I always blindly followed the sheikhs. I notice since then I became more judgmental and domineering.
I left that school when I went to high school, and I'm ashamed to say I dropped Allah from my life since. Three years later, I saw a lecture about the day of judgment and I had this horrible fear within me, and I started to cry throughout it all, and begged Allah to help me. I was on my A-game after that, I prayed on time, I was nicer, I tried to stop listening to music, I was everything that I wanted to be, and I was happy.
This all changed when I was listening to my favourite sheikh, Khalid Yasin, and he was talking about how to beat your wife... I, being the hardcore feminist that I am, was of course shocked by this, so I listened to him and I was extremely angry. So then I researched and came up on a Quran translation that states that you should beat your wife if they act up ( I found later this was twisted and wrong translations of the verse). This got me to research everything in Islam and the more information I got the more sad I was. I was at my lowest point, I went to sleep crying for days. I thought that Allah made me as a tool for men; that I wasn't as loved by Allah. I was seriously thinking of leaving Islam and becoming agnostic, subhanallah.
Every time I questioned something I was basically shut down. So this encouraged me to leave Islam; though I prayed for Allah to guide me. Then I stumbled upon people who said that hadith were fabrication and nonsense, I read it and they had some valid points, then I read the side of people that believe in hadiths; their argument was weak. So then I realized that every issue I had with Islam all came from the hadiths. I... was relieved but I still thought hadiths were effective. Then I was hit with a distant memory of my sister mentioning Muslims called quranists. I searched them and I was pleased to find things that honestly made sense, a large number of hadiths never made sense to me at all. I studied this for a few weeks but then I started to become afraid. What if I was going down the wrong path? Was I accepting this cause it pleases me? I was in doubt for days.
I was always told that the Quran was complete, but you need hadiths because it gives more info. ... what? That would be contradictory, then wouldn't the Quran be incomplete? Then I found that the prayer is explained in the Quran, wudu is explained, Zakat and Hajj were explained. The Quran is complete. What is the use of hadith to be honest? Then I came to the conclusion that God's words trumps everything, and if I followed hadiths I would be following man. After this acceptance, I felt darkness has been removed from my life.
Tbh how does cutting my nails or walking or sleeping like Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) help me get to closer to Allah. What is the relevance of knowing a Shaytan is pissing in my mouth when I yawn. I don't understand.
When I told people about my new found discovery I was greeted by hostility and rudeness, and even since then a friend has told me that I should just leave Islam if I was doing this. How quick of you to say I'm not a Muslim and going to hell, I guess this is the way it is.
Once again I will say that many Quranist lack experience. Try to spend more time here before going public. Its tempting to share your beliefs with other but you have to remember that this requires experience and more knowledge. Many Quranist are not able to understand the difference between following the Quran and contradicting the Quran.
For example many Quranist do not agree with the haj ritual or circumcission etc. But many Quranist see nothing wrong with it as it does not contradict the Quran. If you are not able to tell the difference (as some here do) than you haveonly yourself to blame. The Quranist persuasion is still in its infancy even though many Quranist do not see it that way. They go public without proper experience and knowledge. We should only oppose what contradicts an explicit verse of the Quran. An explicit command. Some Quranist do not understand what explicit means. Or rather they think whats explicit is what they understand to be the proper interpretation. Explict is when the over whelming majority of Quranist agree on the intepretation and not what an individual sees as the proper interpretation.
I guess what I am trying to say is if you or anyone else is still having a hard time accepting what other Quranist believe than how can you complain about being shunned. Another words if you are not able to convince other Quranist that what they are doing is wrong than how can you convince a Sunni. Often Quranist (myself included) tend to be zealous and we want others to have a deep knowledge of the Quran. But deep knowledge of the Quran is not necessary for salvation

salaam QS,
Welcome to the forum.
With regards to the alleged wife-beating verse, I recommend www.Quran434.com

Peace Decided,
Very nice write up. Be careful with who you tell. Some people tend to get violent.
Other than that, welcome! We'd love to see your input on the forums. Sometimes people call me a feminist, though I really just think I'm vouching for basic civil rights for both sexes.

Next step you need to transform your mindset away from 'sectarianism', it's very hard to do, given you were born within sectarian society.
Exactly, it's been more than difficult to stop having that kind of mindset. It's going to take a lot of work on my part. I always think of people as "them" instead of "us", this causes obvious problems.

Oh I know what you mean, it was stupid on my part to say it too early. But because I was very excited, I just wanted to tell the world. After I got shut down by two people I just stop saying it. This had happen months ago when I was very new to this concept. But I was shocked by the reactions because I wasn't trying to impose anything on them, but now I could see what you mean. I really have to shape up my views.

I'm the same, all I want is to have the same rights as men and men should have the same rights as I. Equality is all it is.
Thank you all for the warm welcome.

Welcome, sister.
I'm glad you've found out the truth. I've always noticed one thing in everyone's story and journey, and it's that God always guides those who search for the truth themselves rather than follow blindly what their parents or sheikhs/scholars throw at them.
May God bless you,
Salaam. -
I really have to shape up my views.
I strongly recommend you to read Women in the light of the Quran (written by Parwez with Quranic point of view only). It is the Book number 11 in the following website www.resurgentislam.com
