You also fail to show why an arrogant person can't dig a hole.
Now you commit I don't know how many logical fallacies by saying that digging a hole is similar to building something. Really? And reaching the height of a mountain is just as valid as any other interpretation. You don't own a monopoly on opinions.
Instead of being all hurt and offended, why don't you look at what I wrote? I am not in any way commenting on the sentence in the Koran! I am NOT commenting on whether it is beautiful or not. I am saying that my understanding and opinion about the sentence you interpret and fill with what you consider to be right is different than yours.
What I think is that this sentence is merely saying that an arrogant person will not understand the depths and heights of logics or an argument in a discussion because this person is too concerned with their own ego. It is a philosophical point and not a technical one. But that's just my opinion.

That verse is really amazing that god is challenging the arrogants to penetrate the earth (digging) or to reach as high as the mountains (building).

The highest building is 828 meters heightI would say that it is talking about penetrating the whole Earth as it is talking about two extremes. Going very far below and then going to the height of the tallest mountains. As its referring to reach the height, it appears to be referring to reaching the mountains in terms of their height. Basically, you can't match them.

On that you are probably right. He might not see any sense in it, but he wants to get more opinions etc from Muslims and here he would get perhaps quite a different one from the norm. I don't think I should pester him about this.
