Who has replaced his or her parents with Allah?

Dear brothers and sisters
I have always been wondering why there are brothers and sisters who want to know what is allowed and not allowed to do according to Islam. They are looking for a yes or no in a variety of questions. Are we allowed to eat shellfish, are we allowed to adopt, are we allowed to masturbate, are we allowed to this or that, etc etc etc.
Of course I am not talking only of the brothers and sisters here on f-m but the muslim community as a whole.I have always found it a little strange why it is of such importance to ask others what Allah says about little things, things that does not affect anyone but the person itself. Why are you asking another person what Allah thinks of your behaviour?
I was writing in another thread when I realized that maybe many people see Allah as a replacement for their parents. Most of us are adults (at least in age) and we have been set free from our parents dictatorship (yes, parenthood is not a democracy). But it is not easy letting go of 18 odd years of direct control, maybe a lot of people still need a more authoritive guidance over their lives? I am not saying this is wrong or right, just a reflection. So my question is When you ask Allah for permission by asking other people, are you asking in the same mind-set as you have when you ask your parents for permission? Take a minute to think about it. Please?

Well there may be that or there may be a refusal to take responsibility for one own doings. One does not want to risk anything, one does not want to have to ponder and think, what one wants is to get a stamp of being good. Please do not make me think just give me the recipe.
I do not know whether that is to want the parents back, I see it more as a fear of responsibility, refusal to assume responsibility.
Salaam

This is interesting. The theory would explain why I'm so religiously rebellious when it comes to authority. laugh
The relationship I had with my parents was more democratic than dictatorial. If it's true, then it'll probably fade with time. Most people become fully independent from their parents at around 30. At 18, you're legally an adult, but in reality, your personality and identity aren't fully formed 'til years later.

The success of a dictator relies on his ability to make people think they live in a democracy

True that........Complacancy and the somewhat misguided notion to include Allah in parental guidance
my mum is still quite active in dictating my affairs to me!
I got the same "problem" and I am 39 years old!

Salaam Emil. You don't come across as someone who gets dictated to. police
My mother doesnt follow the rules.......I am a captain and a former member of the elite military troops, trained to kill...........but my mum treats me like I am five years old......not fair......I am sure I am not the only one on this forum with mother issues........Maybe our reluctance to not follow whatever the Imam says is our struggle to free ourselves from our mothers ignore

Sunniism / Islam (with capital, the religion) as we know today has inherited many things from Judaism.
It's not far fetched to say that Islam is Judaism 2.0Or to put it in another words, those who invented the religion of Islam was most probably consisted of those who follows Judaism culture. And the early followers of the religion of Islam was also mostly consisted of those who follows Judaism culture. The culture is then inherited through generations until now.
Now, within Judaism, they have this strange 'conception' that God has dictated every aspect of human life, including the menial details.
"Judaism is a comprehensive way of life, filled with rules and practices that affect every aspect of life what you do when you wake up in the morning, what you can and cannot eat, what you can and cannot wear, how to groom yourself, how to conduct business, who you can marry, how to observe the holidays and Shabbat, and perhaps most important, how to treat G-d, other people, and animals. This set of rules and practices is known as halakhah."

It was torture spending one whole minute with this thought as you requested, as I have never really asked my parents permission for anything. They ask me, and if they don't, I brought them terror. Yes, it was a dictatorship, and I was the little Hitler. I also don't ask God for permission regarding anything, I fear God worse than people fear me, a more terrible dictator than you can imagine. Have you not seen the storms? Is it anything like a parent? Not really! It is more like a Monster, which is what it is!

That He was, and He doesnt care about any consequence, and thats why I feared Him. I rather lick Him than complaining, He doesnt hestitate to embarassed me in front of anyone if Im making mistake, if only you know what He did. I thought He overloiked me. But whats relieving, people also experienced the same. When I eavesdrope their story, I kinda happy. Heeeee...,.

You cannot disrespect your parents for God because that is against the Decree of Moses, which yet people who call themselves Muslim seems to have done away with in several regards.
You can also not ignore and stop caring for other humans either because that is yet also against the ancient Decree, which Muslims oftentimes do to people whom they deem "disbelievers" (or kafar in their misconception about the word). God calls those people "lifeless" (al-mowt) but expresses that those should be treated well despite their ignorant blindness.
Then there is a multitude of people who would claim religious adherence which God would yet call lifeless and sleepers in a deep slumber.
Be safe

Peace everyone,
I think that the verses in the quran instructs us exactly how we should treat our parents.
Quran 283 And We took the covenant of the Children of Israel "You shall not serve except God, and do good to your parents, and regard the relatives, and the orphans, and the needy, and say kind things to the people, and hold the contact prayer, and contribute towards purification." But then you turned away, except for a few of you; you were objecting.
Quran 436 And serve God and do not set up anything with Him, and do good to the parents, and the relatives, and the orphans, and the needy, and the neighbor who is a relative, and the neighbor nearby, and the friend nearby, and the wayfarer, and those maintained by your oaths. God does not love the arrogant, the boastful.
Quran 4135 O you who believe, stand with justice as witnesses to God, even if against yourselves, or the parents or the relatives. Even if he be rich or poor, God is more worthy of them, so do not follow desire into being unjust. And if you twist or turn away, then God is Expert over what you do.
Quran 6151 Say "Come let me recite what your Lord has made unlawful for you that you should not set up anything with Him - and do good to your parents; and do not kill your children for fear of poverty, We provide for you and for them; and do not come near immorality, what is public of it and private; and do not take the life which God has made forbidden, except in justice. That is what He enjoined you that you may comprehend."
Quran 1723 Your Lord decreed that you shall not serve except Him, and do good to your parents. When one of them or both of them reaches old age, do not say to them a word of disrespect nor raise your voice at them, but say to them a kind saying.
Quran 1914 And dutiful to his parents, and never was he a disobedient tyrant.
Quran 298 We instructed the human to be good to his parents. But if they strive to make you set up partners with Me, then do not obey them. To Me are all your destinies, and I will inform you of what you used to do.
Quran 3114 And We enjoined man regarding his parents. His mother bore him with hardship upon hardship, and his weaning takes two years. You shall give thanks to Me, and to your parents. To Me is the final destiny.
Quran 4615 We instructed the human being to honor his parents. His mother bore him with hardship, gave birth to him in hardship, and his weaning lasts thirty months. Until he has attained his maturity, and reaches forty years, he says "My Lord, direct me to appreciate the blessings You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and to do righteousness that pleases You. Let my progeny be righteous. I have repented to You; I am of those who have peacefully surrendered.
Quran 5822 You will not find any people who acknowledge God and the Last day befriending those who oppose God and His messenger, even if they were their parents, or their children, or their siblings, or their tribe. For these, He decrees trust into their hearts, and supports them with a Spirit from Him, and He admits them into paradises with rivers flowing beneath, wherein they will abide. God is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him. These are the party of God. Most assuredly, the party of God are the winners.
