I wouldn't be too disheartened, as the vast majority of Traditional Muslims have not read The Quran thus have very little clue what it says.

I sorta know how you feel dude, athough you're more courageous than I am - I've kept my beliefs moreorless to myself so far.
Whereabouts in Britain are you at, if you don't mind me asking? I'm in South London, though I'm a student who studies in East London.

Thank God for the internet but internet censorship is on the rise over here and the government has blocked many websites that they consider "blasphemous" and "anti-islamic" including youtube. I won't be surprised if they ban this website too. I followed a link to submission.org a few days ago and it's already on their ban list -.

That's true but I was shocked because I hardly heard such things despite growing up in a "Muslim" P country. Many educated people over here do not approve such punishments.
Good point, I used the same kind of argument for punishment of apostasy but most hadithers are stubborn and their final defense is "You think you know more about the quran than the scholars who spent their whole life reading it?" So giveup

There are many practices and interpolations that the sunni/shia and others "sects"

Really? They actually said that? I would have thought even they might be against something like that as some use workarounds even with hadiths.
After converting, I discussed about the fabrication of hadiths with a few friends who were very close to me and some cousins. I can't believe how they have distanced themselves from me just because of my beliefs. A few of them have even stopped talking to me at all and call me a kafir. I haven't even met one quranist in real life and feel so alone in my beliefs (. It's really sad to see how people can get so narrow-minded due to blind faith/religion regardless of their background,culture and education.
Some of us have people around us who believe like we do. Some don't. Just like the Messengers who had some supporters but others had hardly any. You are not alone at all in that as others have said Allah will always be with you. Who can be a better Protecting Friend and Helper other than Allah? Maybe with time, you may come across more people who are open minded - or a few close minded people around you may become a little more open minded. With a topic like this, it always helps to stay as diplomatic as possible. Not saying you haven't, but because its so sensitive and issue thought I would give a reminder.
I have been reading this website on and off for quite some time and finally decided to sign up. I hope to learn a lot and meet people with rational views.

I belong to a liberal sunni/shia family. I have always been skeptic of some hadiths as they were written 200 years after the death of the prophet. A couple of years ago I moved to the UK for my bachelors. Almost all of my british muslim friends are sunnis. I considered them broad-minded and we got along really well. Over the years, I was shocked to see how narrow-minded some of them were when it came to religion. I was disgusted at how they saw women as inferior and hated dogs despite growing up in a highly educated country. They claimed that you can rape your wife(its not considered rape according to islam), the majority of hell will be filled by women and angels would curse a woman if she refuses to go to bed with her husband and backed their claims by hadith. They also used to justify violence(cutting off hands, stoning to death etc) according to the quran and hadith. I was very disturbed by all this and last ramadan, I prayed to God to show me the right path. I started looking more into the quran and hadith. I found out that the quran was minstranslated and most of the hadith were ridiculous and contradicted the quran. I was surprised to see that the quran was against using any of the so called hadith. At first I thought I was alone in my beliefs but then I found out some quran alone websites and this forum.

And dear Bro, I am quite happy you are here with us. You were never alone. Lord is with those who uphold the Quran. I am happy you shared your evidences with your friends, as I received exactly the same reaction.....some even called me Kafir......one said that I will burn in the fire which will be much hotter than that for Christians ........sounded funny to me........perhaps he thought I would convert to original corrupt form through such eternal blackmail....

Good to see people from this part of the world )I know that I am not alone as Allah is always there for me. Its just that I can't wait to see some monotheists in real life.

When you said young girl shot down... I knew who you were talking about. Just to let you know - Klingschor's videos are anti-Islam, he calls himself an orientalist. He had a few videos that stated Islam allows rape. btw, on there I'm also supportpeacenotwar. You may come across some of my comments as I've left quite a few on his videos! D
