Peace be with you. My name is Teddy Marcum and I am a relatively new convert to Islam. I would say that my religious journey was quite difficult. I have struggled with the questions of God since I was a child. Around the age of 12 I became an atheist until about 2 1/2 years ago, I am soon to be 22, when I had a profound shift in my thinking and way of viewing things. I felt that God was calling me back to him. I tried various brands of Christianity but none of them ever seemed to fit or feel right, mostly because of the doctrine of the trinity, which led me to study various forms of Judaism which was closer to what I believed except for the fact that I did accept Jesus as the Messiah. I stayed away from Islam because all I knew of it was it's Sunni and Shi'a forms which immediately turned me off. However, even after I discovered Islam by way of Qur'an alone I still struggled with what to believe, bouncing back and forth between different religions. Recently I have had multiple personal encounters with God, nothing extreme or "new agey", but little things that I believe God is leading me towards. I have become convinced that the Qur'an is the true word of God, free come corruption or error, and that his message will live on until the last Day.

      Dear Ted1205,

      Welcome to the forum welcome

It is really pleasing to hear how you have been guided by the mercy of God. I am not sure if you are new to this site but you are in the right place. me myself I am new to this forum but not new to this site. I used to be called as convert but now I like to be called as a believer than a convert. There is no proceedure to follow the religion of God or to convert. Its all about how we develop our soul to be closer to god, how we believe in his creations and how we appreciate his favours on us. Believing that there is only one god and only God is worthy of worship already qualifies a person to be believer. Next step is how we grow ourself further to be closer to god.

You are already guided but god willing you will be guided more.

      Peace

        Peace be with you too,

        Welcome to the forum.

I identify myself a bit with your story about the path towards God's nearness and guidance. God was sort of "calling" for me too and straightened me up from a quite unrighteous living. Well, my bonus I guess was that I refused to believe in the trinity and I was a God alone Believer, even if I did not live the best life.

Anyway, I can never thank God enough, I try to do all I can to give something in return to Him.

        God bless you

          Peace Teddy,

I also identify somewhat with your story because I too stayed away a bit because of the perception of traditional Islam, although I was born Muslim and believed in God, I then went into new age faiths but I still believed Islam was a great faith and that the Quran contained some type of truth before I came back to Islam. I have also felt that there are things that God led me towards and there are also just times in life where it seems like God is guiding you away from something that may not be that good for you or trying to show you something about a particular situation etc. Sorry that's vague but I can't really get into details.

I too believe in the Quran as the Message and that it will remain until the last day. May Allah shower blessings on you and all those who seek Him.
