What word literally means her "entire body from head to toe".

Where is your proof that Burqa is proved in the Quran?

O Prophet! Say to your wives, and your daughters, and the women of the believers to draw their outer garments over themselves

The key phrase is "over themselves".

If I say, "Get yourself to the office at 6 o'clock", I mean get your whole body, not your head or your chest or your stomach....your whole body.

The Holy Quran says a believing woman should cover over herself. Literally that means her entire body from head to toe. (see Surah 3360)

So those who say burqa has no proof from Quran are dead wrong.

Are you Sunni Muslim? What you're saying sounds more like the Taliban to me but then again you could be from a particular school of thought. I have also noticed a steady 'stream' of those following hadith and/or whatever else coming to this forum in recent weeks. An observation I thought I'd share.

I am a Muslim who follows Hadith. But the point is I have quoted the Holy Quran which is commanding women to cover their whole body.

          Salaam,

If the men would actually follow the guidance of the Quran, would you still feel like you needed to be protected?

If men would follow the guidance of the Qur'aan, well there will be world peace, there will be no hunger, there will be no poverty, and the list goes on.

The cold truth is, Brother, mankind is born weak. There will always be temptation. To be perfectly honest, I do not wear a headscarf because I live in a Western country where it is not reaallllyyyy that hard to achieve modesty. My "hijab" will be modest dressing and lowering my gaze if I catch (once in a blue moon) a man checking me out. I will try to cover, in such a way I can look beautiful without being sexually attractive, if you know what I mean. I will avoid mini skirt and low-cut top because it will increase the risk of harrassment. If I go to the more conservative country, then I will cover more and wear a headscarf if that is what is considered modest in that society.

Every gender has their own responsibility. While a man is responsible to control his desire, a woman is also responsible to maintain a modest attire. It goes both ways, and I really disagree when people, "women should be able to look around naked bla bla bla".

If you live in a muslim country, then why do feel like you need to be identified as a muslim? Shouldnt the hijab only be worn in places where there is a necessity to show you are a muslim?

Well I live in a non-Muslim country so I do feel the yearning to be identified as a Muslim. Though I don't do it through wearing a headscarf, but through my action (hopefully). That being said, when I was travelling in Middle East, had I not worn the scarf, the locals would think I was a non-Muslim tourist because of my facial feature. So it was kinda nice to have them greet me with assalaamu'alaikum when they saw me with a headscarf .

A headscarf is just a piece of clothing, I don't know why people make a good deal out of it. For heaven's sake, wearing it is not a mockery or being oppressed. Geez, some people really love mocking something that is different to them/what they practice.

Did you by any chance read the Qur'aan translated by Hilali and Khan where they inserted so many brackets of interpretation?

3359 does not say you need to cover from head to toe.

              Sura 3360?

3360 (Picktall) If the hypocrites, and those in whose hearts is a disease, and the alarmists in the city do not cease, We verily shall urge thee on against them, then they will be your neighbors in it but a little while. -

He meant 3359. The verse about jilbab.

Sura 3359 - Doesn't say cover head to toe.

Applying your logic about your whole body, explain then why chest is mentioned in sura 2431? So if covering means head to toe that also includes chest. I mean you would not just cover your head and toe and walk around with breast on display, would you? Israfeel, what would you say to God?

Well, they still treated me as a non-Muslim tourist even though I wore a headscarf, maybe because I didn't put it tight enough (I left the throat opan). In the end I decided I don't want to be part of their tribal religion and I don't habe to proove my belief to them. I might still wear it (in my way) over there but without the illusion nor the desire of being accepted by them.

We are discussing 3360 (Bismillah included). Use any translation, all are saying the same "women should draw their outer garments over themselves". No mention of just head or chest or hair etc. "Over themselves" It is inclusive of everything.

For me the Quran is very clear on this point.

Care to check the Qur'aan before you argue in a Qur'aan only forum?

PS Please copy and paste 3360 to make sure that we are reading the same Qur'aan?

It's 3360 if you count Bismillah as the first Ayah of the Surah. If you don't consider Bismillah as a verse of the Quran, then it will be 3359

But I believe that Bismillah is part of the Quran and it is the first Ayah of every Surah except Surah 9.

                          Hope that helps.

                            What verse states humurihinne?

2431 And tell the believing women to reduce of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which appears thereof and to wrap their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, their brothers' sons, their sisters' sons, their women, that which their right hands possess, or those male attendants having no physical desire, or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women. And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment. And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.

                                Salam,

Hijab in and of itself is meaningless. What is the problem is that people are claiming that Allah has given a direct command that donning a hijab is mandatory. It is another example of "scholars" imposing restrictions on people through poor understanding of the Qu'ran.

We should not focus on the hijab so much as focusing on spreading a better understanding of the message of the Qu'ran. Hijab is a cultural thing and is here to stay, let's more focus on opening people's mind to the message. When society becomes open to the message, then issues such as women's rights will automatically be corrected. Having an argument over whether hijab is good or bad will not open the people's minds.

It's not meaningless if God commanded it...if "scholars" say something it does not automatically mean its not correct. What we should do is see if its true according to the Quran...
The fact is that God recommends for believing women a certain code of dressing...if we want to be identified as believing women we should try to understand what it is in Quran and not according to prejudices or our own wishes...
To me no one answered or showed me picture of women in front of her father and teenage brother for example and in front of strangers...dressed according to Q. Please do if you can...

O Prophet! Say to your wives, and your daughters, and the women of the believers to draw their outer garments over themselves

The key phrase is "over themselves".

If I say, "Get yourself to the office at 6 o'clock", I mean get your whole body, not your head or your chest or your stomach....your whole body.

But you forgot to mention verse 2431

RED they should not reveal their beauty except what is apparent.

From that verse we can see, the woman must cover their body except what is already ordinary apparent.Plus there is no command for covering the hair, but the only commad from that verse is to cover their chest.
You may also find the order for put forth the shawl for covering woman's chest, but it's not direct commandment for wearing the shawl to covering the hair or face, if you reading this verse again, you will know if it's just for a way to covering the chest.

So if we merge verse 2431 and 3359, this means the woman must covering all their bodies with hijab/garment except who is ordinary apparent (hair, face, hand, foot)

Hijab=burqa is hadither's tafseer and has nothing to do with Quran alone.

If you aren't satisfied with mine intepreation then just read this articlehttp//www.quranicpath.com/misconceptions/hijab_niqab.html

If you're disagree with that intepretation, just back to this ayat Laakum deenukum waliya deen

If you look at the Christian images of Virgin Mary, she is always covering her head.

If you look at bad women like Madonna etc., they are never covering their head.

So we see that Quran-only people follow Madonna, and Muslim women who believe in Hadith are following Virgin Mary (peace be upon her).

Covering head is a sign of modesty and faith in God. Uncovering head is sign of pride arrogance and following Satan

Yo say like this, because you are already brainwashed by Hadith teaching and became radical and simple minded.

You're just remind me during when I still a Sunni.During that time I was a faithful Sunni, some sunnah (Monday-Friday fasting, salat Dhuha), I also active in Islamic organization, attending their Syuro' etc.Beside that I I also became radical like. But five monthas ago when my iman was shaken then I discover this Quran alone and became like this.
When first time being Quran alone, I was still became anti liberal, and hate this, hate that, but after enter more deeply, I saw myself how stupid I am.

Plus there is no point for pointing Madonna in this topic, faithful Christian woman is also not wearing jilbab but they're faithful.

Is wearing jilbab is the symbol of that woman is faithfull? then just look this pictures (from my country).

NOTE That picture is unmarriage couple according to the website source.

See, Is that picture Islamic even they're wearing jilbab?
