    Salaams,

    Just my view,thanks.

    Just re-translating one word makes sense to me.

    3117
    ?O my son observe the (Salaat)meetings and command with that is good and forbid that is evil and bear with patience on whatever befalls you verily these some of the important commandments .

    Meetings , to teach a thing or two to an uneducated,illiterate community.

    Sura 107 then re-enforces this further.

    Who agrees?anyone?

    I think so.

      Peace be upon you,

      I still see it as "process" (learning process where the will and the mind/spirit work in unison just as the day and night merge).

        Salaam mz,

        Would you translate 'Salaat' as 'meetings' in all verses? Just curious.

          Salaams zenje,idol,
          where the word ia accuring as salaat yes ,but not wher there is a variation-

          Salaat=meetings/assembly.

          like salwaat = advice,direction,views,councel.

          Here Allah has said specifically ,hold the meetings and there command-to do good .And as a consequance what ever befalls you be patient.

          But idol is free to argue with his views,i can discuss this word for word or say ayat for ayat.Thanks.

            Peace be upon you MZ,

            Thank you for not shying away from further discussion and testing of your theory.

            When you state that Salaat =meeting/assembly, how do you reconcile that the word "jumah" is already used for this concept?

              Salaams idol,

              Jamaa = He gathered
              Jam-un= Gathering

              Lets see same ayat

              O my son observe the gathering--------

              and

              O my son observe the meeting---------

              As much as my english goes , one is an implication to discuss/talk/argue differeent views while the first doesn't imply this no way?Salaams idol.

                Peace be upon you MZ,

                I did not follow that last response. I was not indicating that you should replace "salaat" with "jumah", I was saying how can you translate "salaat" as assembly when Jumah already means that?

                The word "gathered" seems to also be used already , something like "tuhsharoona" which appears at the end of verses 2203 and 3158.

                Please elaborate.

                  Salaams idol,
                  no i think we can't /shouldnt use assembly ,but to me meeting/s is the most right english word describing salaat.

                  And meetings although are gatherings ,but imply to meet and discuss rather then simply a gathering which is simply a crowd and can have any number of implications.

                  Would very much like a verse if you have one where meetings(as salaat) doesn't hold water.

                  Thank you.

                    Peace be upon you MZ,

                    1931 (YA) 'And He hath made me blessed wheresoever I be, and hath enjoined on me MEETING and Purification as long as I live;

                    How should the baby Jesus uphold these meetings. Yes, I take the story Symbolically anyway, but we cannot get any symbolism from a baby going to meetings. However, as soon as one is born, the SIGNS of the God begin entering the senses (Eyes,ears, etc). We begin the PROCESS(salaat) of LEARNING as soon as we are born.

                      Salaams idol,

                      you said

                      1931 (YA) 'And He hath made me blessed wheresoever I be, and hath enjoined on me MEETING and Purification as long as I live;

                      This is my trans

                      And has made me blessed wheresoever I be and enjoined on me,giving of wise councel and sermon in Salaat/at Meetings and to keep it pure as long as I am alive.

                      Salaams.

                        Peace be upon you MZ,

                        I have no idea why I used Yusuf Ali, I must have been lazy earlier. Here is a more accurate translation.

                        (1931) "And He made me blessed, wherever I am, and He directed me with the (learning)process and the purification as long as I am alive."

                        An important point is that it says WITH "al salaati". Not AT.

                        We should be directed by the experiences we learn as soon as we come out of our mothers. This is just what babies do. No babies go to meetings then come back and follow what was discussed.

                          Salaams idol,
                          i think you may use other words in place of AL aswell see page 74 of lanes .

                          But you can't use word for word translation arabic to english or vice versa i don't think - due to barriers in langauges and because identical words don't exist.

                          But using your word learning process is okay too , because a salaat is for learning/teaching/solving e.t.c

                          Nice discussion,

                          Salaams.
