"They fulfill vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread."
"And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive"
", "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah . We wish not from you reward or gratitude."
    (Sahih International)

There are other similar lines but these are best suited to my point I think. Generally, it seems like the Quran is closer alignable to 'categorical imperative' as opposed to the traditional, person-to-person 'golden rule' principle. Atleast as far as I can tell anyway, I really should read up on Kant some more when I have the time.

As I (and like 75% of the posts in the thread lol) said earlier, the Quran indeed does not have an explicit golden rule stated. It instead opts for a "treat everyone with respect bar those who are agressing you (and stop when the agressors stop)" principle. By extension it contains some elements of the Golden Rule but instead of focusing on person-to-person it focuses more on morals on a general/universal level.

@kgwithnob I find it interesting that he's using the same argument alisina, wikiislam, and similar groups use to mount their attempts to preach islamophobia.

      Salam alaikum

If someone can show me the Golden Rule "treat others as you wish to be treated" from the Quran I will personally send them a cheque for $1000 US.

However if you admit that the Golden Rule is not to be found in the Pure Quran, then you will have to admit that the text of the Quran is missing very important moral lessons and requires Hadith.

      Salaamun alayka,

When you didn't reply to me in the other thread I thought you had understood what I was saying but unfortunately I was wrong.

Let me say it again maybe this time Allah will open up your eyes and heart so that you will be able to understand.
Don't waste your time searching for man-made "wisdom" in The Quran, in The Quran you will find only the truth.

I will give you a tip which will inshaAllah benefit you more then searching for YOUR golden rule in The Quran.
Try to search for The Golden Rule of The Quran, perhaps you will be guided.

      Salaam,
      Bender

Actually "treat your neighbor as yourself" is not as broad and universal as the Hadith "Treat people as you love to be treated", because the former is restricted to neighbors, while the latter is for all human beings.

That's not what the verse says. It says

So in which Hadeeth after that will they believe? If you look at the context, it is condemning the rejectors (not those who affirm the Sunnah). Hadeeth here is referring to what Allah has revealed (both Quran and Sunnah).

The Quran never says "What other hadith than mine do they believe in" totally wrong and misleading translation. See I know the Quran better than you Quranists.

        Salaamu alayka

BLUE to what sunnah are you referring and please bring your evidence??

RED Well the Quran says this
        456
please read the context very carefully to understand the context.
I recommend at least from 451 till 4511

        Salaam,
        Bender

Wait, what do you mean we must need hadith if we cannot find this golden rule, or the meaning of righteousness (as often ordered upon muslims in the Quran)? If you do not understand this concept, or any other concept from the Quran, we can read the previous scripture. The previous scripture is not a man-made hadith.

33 He sent down to you the Book with the truth, authenticating what is between his hands; and He sent down the Torah and the Gospel.

546 And We sent in their footsteps Jesus, son of Mary, authenticating what was present with him of the Torah. And We gave him the Gospel, in it is a guidance and a light, and authenticating what was present with him of the Torah, and a guidance and a lesson for the righteous.
547 And let the people of the Gospel judge with what God has sent down in it. And whoever does not judge with what God has sent down, then these are the wicked.
          ...
566 And if they had upheld the Torah and the Gospel, and what was sent down to them from their Lord, they would have been rewarded from above them and from beneath their feet. From among them is a pious nation, but most of them only do evil.

7157 "Those who follow the Gentile messenger prophet whom they find written for them in the Torah and the Gospel; he orders them to kindness, and prohibits them from vice, and he makes lawful for them the good things, and he makes unlawful for them the evil things, and he removes their burden and the shackles that are upon them. So those who believe in him, and support him, and help him persevere, and follow the light that was sent down with him; these are the successful ones."

5727 Then We sent in their tracks Our messengers. And We sent Jesus, son of Mary, and We gave him the Gospel, and We ordained in the hearts of his followers kindness and mercy . But they invented Monasticism which We never decreed for them. They wanted to please God, but they did not observe it the way it should have been observed. Consequently, We gave those who believed among them their recompense, while many were wicked.

In other words Jesus already preached God's righteousness, he said that abiding by the Laws of the Taurat and worshipping continuously in the Holy Temple wouldn't be any good if you weren't righteous to the less fortunate. And he originated this "Golden Rule" as an example to make it easier for people to understand. This rule did not come from anyone else but God, through his prophet and it is part of the Scriptures. So yeah, no hadith needed.

The Quran is the Criterion and by it we decide what the Golden rules are. There is a reason it is called The Criterion. Rules based on hearsay may be good or bad but whether they are golden or not, is up to Allah to decide. What is golden (whatever it means) is given to us in clear terms in the Quran.

Is it not strange that in order to defend hadith collections (both Sunni and Shia) some would rather question the Quran?

Yes, and on top of that what it is saying plainly is that were not for the hadith they would drop Islam and take to christianity which has little very pretty golden rules like giving the other cheek and that kind of soft stuff which superchristians are always parading while doing the opposite, that is, slapping someone else cheeks.

I am not so sure as to where this Israfeel is coming from. It is too much of a muchness.

              Salaam

Its funny how religious people claim morals by pointing out to the socalled ''Golden rule'' in their books when the same books promotes hate and violence. And both the history of christianity and sunnis are full of wars.

                Peace

I haven't read this thread, but...

The Golden Rule is a general principle, meaning like most general principles it may have exceptions where it shouldn't be applied. But generally speaking, the Golden Rule also known as the Rule of Thumb is accepted worldwide by all humanity as a universal moral code to live by - all humanity except the Quranists of course.

...anyone who has read Quran will know that it has the following principles, repeated in many verses

when it comes to punishment/retribution, the principle is equivalence or less

when it comes to reconciliation/making amends/bringing peace, the principle is equivalence or better

Thus, one could argue Quran's "golden rules" are actually better than the alleged "golden rule" discussed in this thread.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

                    Peace Family,

                    Islam= peace= golden rule

The laws of reciprocity are contained therein

When are you going to send my 1,000 dollars my friend.

(Do unto to others as you would have others do unto you.)

The Quran is even more detailed than the golden rule.

You shall worship GOD alone?do not associate anything with Him. You shall regard
the parents, the relatives, the orphans, the poor, the related neighbor, the unrelated
neighbor, the close associate, the traveling alien, and your servants. GOD does not like
                    the arrogant showoffs.

Righteousness is not turning your faces towards the east or the west. Righteous
                    are those who believe in GOD, the Last Day, the angels, the scripture, and the prophets;
and they give the money, cheerfully, to the relatives, the orphans, the needy, the
traveling alien, the beggars, and to free the slaves; and they observe the Contact
Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat); and they keep their word
whenever they make a promise; and they steadfastly persevere in the face of persecution, hardship, and war. These are the truthful; these are the righteous.

GOD advocates justice, charity, and regarding the relatives. And He forbids evil,
vice, and transgression. He enlightens you, that you may take heed.

                    ONE GOD

                    peace

                        Peace Israfeel,

The golden rule is clear from those ayats, or do you want words verbatim? in that case
your request is not even interesting. Like "what goes around comes around" is not
contained in Quran verbatim either but any casual (honest) reader will be able to see it.
Now who is being exposed as disingenuous, dishonest elektro I answered your test now
I want to be paid. or I will sue, and any Islamic court with the exception of the wahabis
would award me the 1,000 dollars. So break it off, your challenge has been met, or you
explain what those ayats mean otherwise.

                        God Bless

                        peace

The verse you quoted does not say "treat other as you wish to be treated"

I suggest you go back to ESL class.

                          It does certainly say "treat other as you wish to be treated" ;

***you may apply a question to that verse such as --> Do you wish to be treated with peace ?
SO, evidently there's a place for "treat other as you wish to be treated"
