Hi,
I stumbled upon this forum in my quest for true Islam. I come from a not so religious Muslim family but I've always been interested in religion. I started reading the Quran and hadith at the age of 9. I only read the nice hadiths at the time so I didn't really question them. As I grew up and went to university, I started reading more and I met people who challenged my beliefs. I was surprised to find out that non-Muslims knew more about the content of the hadiths than me & they used it to attack Islam. There were many hadiths from Bukhari and Muslim that I couldn't really defend so I turned for my Muslim friends & even scholars for help. I thought that maybe they could help me understand but when they didn't understand something, they just dismissed it and they warned me against rejecting any hadith because that was 'kufr'. I became an agnostic for a short while then I found out about Quran-only Islam. I read the Quran again away from preconceived ideas and it suddenly made more sense. That was 4 years ago... In the last few years, I have seen some of my friends turn into atheists because of the hadiths. I'm glad that didn't happen to me. I'm here to learn more about Islam...

Peace Dua,
Welcome and I'm glad you have moved towards the Quran and searched for yourself. Maybe when you were agnostic you were actually a theist. Between my time from a not very religious Muslim who had not read the Quran to Paganism as a teenager, I called myself a theist for a short while. Then I actually read the Quran. I think sometimes on our own path we might not be ready to read the Quran until a certain time, as we would read it more with an open mind and attune with it only at a certain time. It's possible and of course some never 'attune' with it but it could be there is a time that is more right for us after we have pondered and explored a few other things. Allah swt knows that best and it could be that Allah swt is just very patient with us.

Peace Dua,
Another piece of advice I just thought of for a newcomer and that effects everyone but sometimes we seem to forget it that we will face 'tests' or lessons and challenges along our path although these may be somewhat different to each other. That sometimes the things that come to mind, and our understanding of the Quran and even all the signs of Allah swt throughout the world - that these are not always accurate instanteously. That it can take time to come to understand the Quran and this is a learning process. So there is nothing to worry about if we get something wrong just as long as we are open to learning and moving on by Allah's swt leave. Hope this helps!
