So you believe the Arabic discourse does not disclose anything special about the month Ramadhan by mentioning it by name plus thing connected to it? You say it is like any other month to you while it most probably does not seem that way by the way God talks about it. Even if the interpretation would be slightly inaccurate on minor things it seems logically impossible that the meaning is vastly different from the current interpretation.
I am sure kgwithnob was very blunt towards you, but I guess he was annoyed by your rejecting and ignorant appearance. You come with accusations that we follow traditions when we try to follow the interpretation of the Quran to the best of our ability with the tools we have (dictionaries) and our logic and rationality. Many of us here try intensively to deep study the Arabic discourse so that we find the most accurate interpretation possible. I think kgwithnob was somewhat offended by your previous statement and I must admit I was shaking my head a bit too. I am attempting to follow the Quran's Message and I am trying to be peaceful and kind even with those who make such grave accusations. Like you use to say, God is the judge, but looking at the Quran you can pretty much see right from wrong.
Who would like to fast (approximately) 30 days for an invented meaning? Right, no one, but we do it because we believe the Quran says that and no one is going to be punished in case it would be a centuries long corruption in the words. There is a long series of verses which need to be utterly faulty to rule out something special about this month of Ramadhan.
There are verses with fundamental words for food and drink and until dawn and lots of hints at fasting. So why are we blamed for following tradition?
And you come to defense by using Shaytaan and indirectly claiming that we are his followers.

What was funny about that post by hawk99? He seemed to be pointing out a difference in the way the verse is addressed and the use of the word muslim and believer depending on your perspective.
A 'quran only' perspective or insert your name here perspective - that goes for everything in relation to what we 'discuss' not just what hawk99 said.

Thanks. So it's a more subtle humour, I haven't been following all the conversation about Ramadan etc across this forum either and how far the discussion has gone. I've seen some people distinguish between the term muslim and believer and thought that's what he meant. I hope hawk99 won't make fun of me like that if I disagree with him!

There may be differences of opinions amongst us, but let's treat other with respect. This should be a sanctuary for all of us from the outside world-not a replication of it.

We fasted when the thin light of day was distinguishable from the dark of night until night time ie from sundown to nighttime. That constituted approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Our fast was a word fast. I can assure you a word fast is far more difficult than a food fast even for 75 minutes. The word fast actually allowed us to think. It allowed us to enter into quietness.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Dawn. So your fast was from actual sunset to the time when the night is at it's darkest. I have not come across this interpretation but it's given me something to consider.
