The verse 1329 of Quran is understood as - "Those who believe and do righteous deeds have deserved happiness and a blissful end."

The point at issue is that - Whether or not the Ayat 1329 confirms celebration of Eid?

      Peace,

Doubtfully. I think it means that if you are successful in getting redeemed you will face a happy ending at the end of days.

      God bless you

ramaDaan is the time of redemption, while fasting all concentration is towards ALLAAH, this is the time when your understanding is most acute and if you feel you have managed to learn and educate yourself to the extent of redemption then
you are a person with new outlook so celebrate new image/cloths hmm

Salam! Found the following message on the internet re Eid

1057 O mankind! There has come to you a good advice from your Lord (i.e. the Qur'an, enjoining all that is good and forbidding all that is evil), and a healing for that (disease of ignorance, doubt, hypocrisy and differences) which is in your breasts, - a guidance and a mercy (explaining lawful and unlawful things) for the believers. (Mohsin Khan)

1058 Say "In the Bounty of Allah, and in His Mercy (i.e. Islam and the Qur'an); - therein let them rejoice." That is better than what (the wealth) they amass. (Mohsin Khan)

Above verse clearly ask us to REJOICE the arrival of Quran, in month of Ramadan and that is why celebrate it.

Whether or not the term 'Eid' mentioned in Quran at 5114 can in anyway be connected with the celebration of 'Eid' at the end of Ramadan as is practiced world over?

              Peace,

5114 has nothing to do with any celebration after Ramadhan. It was a sign of God which Jesus' followers requested and received. And God warned them of not believing in Him after that very undeniable sign of getting a feast sent down in front of their eyes.

Anyway, there is nothing wrong in celebrating the end of Ramadhan as long as it is done for God alone. It feels particularly rewarding if passing the fasting successfully.

Traditions are allowed by God as long as they are not made into divine law. God is talking about different rituals and so on for different people. But the traditional celebration after Ramadhan cannot be found within Quran.

Any celebration done for God alone can be encouraged and there is no problem with it as long as it does not violate the guidelines of Quran. It is certainly an achievement to fast successfully and God does not forbid us from expressing happiness over deeds, especially righteous deeds such as fasting. Also if a society, for example, is having a harvest feast this is a righteous act since it is a form of thanksgiving. The intention always counts and optimally poor people should be invited and participating in the feast.

              God bless you

                Peace mubashir55,

Mohsen Khan's biased translation does still not validate a claim of a celebration after Ramadhan is over. This is a human tradition most likely.

                God bless you

You took 1329 out of context. Please read Chapter 13 all at once; it's not very long anyway. Chapter 13 asks us to acknowledge God and His signs and His messengers. In 1318-29, the people who don't acknowledge are contrasted with those who acknowledge, and their abodes are compared. It can be inferred that the "good abode" at the end of 1329 means paradise.

The Quran didn't mention Eid at all. Furthermore, I'm in doubt whether we should fast in Ramadan. Construing 2185 literally, fasting in Ramadan is for those who witness how the Quran was sent down. As the Quran was sent down gradually, there're people who witnessed the progress as Muhammad must showed people what was revealed. Did we witness the month? We are not witnesses of how Quran was gradually revealed in Ramadan. We're more than a thousand years away from that. We only know that the Holy Spirit sent the Quran down, and we have no idea about what Muhammad saw when Quran was sent down. We are witnesses of the miracles in Quran, but we are not witnesses of Ramadan. Furthermore, 2183 O you who acknowledge, fasting is decreed for you as it was decreed for those before you that perhaps you may be righteous. I've never heard Jews and Christians who fast for a month each year; they just fast as they will. There is "a number of days" in 2184, but Ramadan is not the only "a number of days" in Quran. If we visit the Restricted Temple, and can't find anything to donate, then we fast 3 days there and 7 days back home. If somebody committed manslaughter, and the victim is a monotheist, then that person should fast for 2 months. We may also fast as we wish.

Fasting continuously for a month is indeed a very rigorous task for me. I lost 3 kilograms in Ramadan in 2011, and I didn't manage to complete the whole month of fast; I donated foods and toys to an orphanage to redeem the remaining 10 days of fast. Since then, my digestive system became fragile. I had numerous of diarrhea in 2012. So I didn't fast in 2012. And I didn't fast in 2013, because I realized that Ramadan is only for those who witnessed the month, while I'm more than a thousand years from that.

Though Quran didn't mention Eid at all, it's not a sin to praise God and remember God and commemorate the revelation of Quran on the Eid, and make it a festival. As it's not mentioned in Quran, Eid is not an obligation. We may do the same thing on any day we wish, to our convenience, like on January 1 if we live in a non-Muslim country, for January 1 is always a holiday, while Eidu Fitri is only a holiday in North West China, never in the South East I'm living in, so we can spend the whole day singing hymns, attending congregational activities, offering sermons, studying the Scripture, fasting, and etc. without asking days off in our companies and schools.

                    @ Man of Faith,

Your assessment of the verse 5114 seems to be articulated with more precision of mind and I tend to agree with your observation to the maximum. But the confusion in my mind is about the terms li-awwalina waakhirina ( ). Are we not covered in the group of "akhirina" mentioned in this ayat? kindly revisit and share your considered views.

Thank you for the passage above, the act of acknowledgment God's signs and His messengers alone, is cause for celebration "iyd for those who seek God and they are on their way to a good abode insha'ALLAAH

                          Peace,

Not for this occurrence is all I can say. It was a contemporary event back then and not now. Of course feasts are common in religious contexts, but they are human initiatives. Nothing wrong with that, but it is something for each community to decide unless God outright commands a feast to be held.

The feast with Jesus' followers came to them on a specific one-time occasion because they asked Jesus to show them one last miracle and God said that if you do not believe after this you are in trouble.

If such celebration was advocated the Quran would very clearly state that. Overall the Book is very clear on every relevant aspect. So an important feast should be discoverable relatively easily browsing the passages.

Only ordered feasts as I can recall were advocated by the Bible and who knows how truthful that is.

                          God bless you

                            @Man of Faith

I appreciate the understanding of your good self and in my plain understanding I am inclined to agree with it without doubt.

However, it is relevant to mention here that Quran confirms the teachings of the previous scriptures to the extent which are obligated to be followed by the followers of Quran too. If we find mention of the event in Quran which has been termed as a sign for awwalina waakhirina, I am compelled to disagree that it was a contemporary event having no relevance in today?s context.

As far as I understand Quran propounds the principles to be adopted to deal with the worldly affairs righteously as a system of governance. All the attributes of Quran and signs mentioned therein are the essential tools to attain righteousness in our actions.

The point at issue is as to how the sign ? ?ma-ida? mentioned in the verse 5114 can be adopted as the principle and tool in the system of governance to be helpful for the people in attaining righteousness?

Whether or not the provision of ?ma-ida? from Allah(swt) indicates towards providing ?UNEMPLOYMENT ALLOWANCE? by the State to give reason to such people to rejoice alongside the haves and as a last resort to motivate people to observe abstinence from ?Kufr? i.e. wilful defiance of law.

As I noticed, this has been incidentally the Sunnatullah as the tool of motivation for the human beings right from Adam (e.g. 235 and 257 refer).

Given the above, considered views of your good self is solicited.

                            Salaam

                              @Farida,

May I take the opportunity to draw kind attention of your good self to one of the most famous quotes from Quran - (waqul rabbi zidnee AAilman) (20114 refers)

I understand it has been told to inculcate the notion to strive for seeking more and more knowledge from Allah(swt) to keep on augmenting the facets of knowledge we already have.

However, by and large, this Quranic statement is used among the label Muslim circles as a fancy statement to pretend having pseudo faith in Allah(swt) without translating into a genuine effort to adhere to it righteously. (Matter of concern!!)

No denying, the absolute source of knowledge is already encapsulated in Quran and we all agree to it from the core of the heart but we rarely think, ponder, delve into and perceive while having faith on Almighty to know the unknown. Rather, we are more curious to know the known understood by a human out of his / her limited acumen and boast upon that we are actually augmenting our knowledge. To be precise, in practice we hardly rely on Allah(swt) for bestowing upon the knowledge of unknown but the worldly gods. (Result Falsehood is ruling the roost).

May Allah(swt) guide us to be guided. Salaam

                                Dear all Salam

5114 Jesus the son of Mary said ?O God our Lord, send us down a Table from Heaven so it may be a recurring feast for us, for both the first of us and the last of us, and as a sign from You! Provide for us, since you are the best Provider God said ?I shall send it down to you. Any of you who disbelieves afterward, I shall punish with such torment as I have never punished anyone in the Universe!"?

From the above translation, it seems that a miracle happened (some people claim a table also came down from heaven, but that's a story for another day). "Recurring Feast" seems to suggest that this important event was to be celebrated from then onwards.

Question Do the Christians people mark this miraculous event with an annual celebration?

Just to add another perspective to add to the discussion, I found the following interpretation by Dr. Shabbir

114 Jesus, son of Mary, said, "O God our Lord! Help us create the Heavenly System on earth that ensures abundance of provision for all of us. Let there be a happy feast for the founders and the followers of the Divine System. This will be a Sign from You that Your Commands are blissful. Provide for us and You are the Best of providers."

115 Allah said, " I will make abundance for you as long as you remain loyal to the System. But, for those who disbelieve afterward, I will punish them as I have never punished anyone else."

                                  Peace,

Even though a feast may be prescribed there is no specific date in the verse addressed. And I have to disagree that it is recurring since God does not repeatedly send down feasts annually and thus it was only for that one occasion.

A feast celebration was allegedly prescribed for harvest time, for example, in the Bible and this was in the Book of Moses. Thanking God for a good harvest is something well in order and is a more appropriate feast than celebrating that you passed the fasting of Ramadhan. This feast is a bit egotistical and more about your own accomplishment than what God does for you. Although I am not saying that God did not help you pass your fast, but it is still for your benefit and not for God. Nothing we do is something God needs but we ourselves.

A feast to be held is not prohibited, but it is not ordered by God. A harvest feast may be more beneficial for your redemption than a celebration for your achievement after Ramadhan. On the other hand, I think they had a feast according to the Bible after they had lived on unleavened bread for a period too.

In case the highlighted verse would be a recurring feast it could be any of the feasts of this book. Still I doubt it is a recurring event.

                                  God bless you
