Salaam Earthdom,
Please learn the difference between god and God.
The word 'god', as a common noun can be anything that is deified and worshipped such as Amen-Ra the Egyptian god, a human being, a stone etc.
Whereas God is the Supreme Being. God is a proper noun.
I have looked into my dictionary of word definitions and I found that God and god are separate words.

So you want to understand Quran with modern English term.Quran was sent down in Classical Arab. Please re-read my post again from start until the last.

Salaam,
This is the difference between God and god.
You see the word in green? The G is written in capital letter right?
And read the first definition, the definition of God with capital G.Definition of God in English
God
Pronunciation /gd/noun
1(in Christianity and other monotheistic religions) the creator and ruler of the universe and source of all moral authority; the supreme being.
2 (god) (in certain other religions) a superhuman being or spirit worshipped as having power over nature or human fortunes; a deity
a moon god
the Hindu god Vishnu
an image, animal, or other object worshipped as divine or symbolizing a god
wooden gods from the Congo
used as a conventional personification of fate
he dialled the number and, the gods relenting, got through at once
3 (god) a greatly admired or influential person
he has little time for the fashion victims for whom he is a god
a thing accorded the supreme importance appropriate to a god
don?t make money your god
4 (the gods) informal the gallery in a theatre
they sat in the gods. And the word 'god' in the 2nd to the last definitions is always in bracket with small g.
"There is no police but police"
This phrase would not be strange if you change the small p into capital P.
"there is no police but Police"
Anyway, there is no such thing as proper noun of police, unless there is a person whose name is Police. Hehehe. When God is denoted to Supreme Being, it is always written as God. Not Gods or god or gods.
I am sorry if my argument still looks invalid to you.
Anyway, are you saying that God has a real name, just like people who have names Ali, Maria, Joe, Katherine etc?
And we should use Allah instead of God?Or did you just say Allah cannot be translated into modern English term only but is possible to translate into other languages?
Regards,
Yuliana -
Peace Yuliana

God
Pronunciation /gd/I already told you to read the whole of my post in previous page.
.Plus there is no such term like God capital or uncapital god in Arabic language.Just try to read many english traditional translation of the Quran, rarely of them using God for Allah.May they do sectarian translation but they're expert in Arabic language.
AlQuran translation in many languages also translate Allah as Allah.Example in Malaysian and Indonesian translation, the word "Allah" didn't translate into "Tuhan" instead still "Allah".
In Classical Arab, the usage of word "Allah" is different from modern Arabic.Current Arab speaker using "Allah" for mentioning their god whateverer they're Muslim or Christian.
The proof is read Lane Lexicon classical Arab dictionary in page 83.(you can download it in many websites including @wakas's studyquran). The great website like corpusquran also said if "Allah" is a proper noun unlike ilah or Al-Ilah.
The God-god term was originally a Christian term and has nothing to do with the Quran's language.
Anyway, are you saying that God has a real name, just like people who have names Ali, Maria, Joe, Katherine etc?
And we should use Allah instead of God?Yes. our God's name is Allah, Ar Rahman, etc.The name musn't be translate into any other language even it can.
The example is Muhammad (saw).Muhammad/Ahmad/Hamada in english means "commendable".Is this means we translate his name as "Phrophet Commendable (saw) in Quran translation ??
Or did you just say Allah cannot be translated into modern English term only but is possible to translate into other languages?
No it cannot, not only modern english but also in any languages. All Muslim throughtout the word must said "Allah" for mentioning their God.

Salaam,
You can't say Argumentum ad Populum to be a valid argument.

Salaam,
I don't mean to fight with you but it seems like you are saying that all my arguments against Israfeel, Al Amiyr et al are invalid and useless. Yeah maybe this is who I am= useless.
Do you even know what Argumentum ad Populum means. I rarely use this kind of argument fallacy. If I always appeal to the majority, I would have still been a Sunni and never found this forum.Anyway if that is your belief, (Allah is God's name) I just have to respect your belief.
I have done with my inputs.
I'm sorry if I seem like a failure to you.Regards.

Yes I know, but I often not use it in english language especially in this forum. This will made me so damn confused.
I have done with my inputs.
I'm sorry if I seem like a failure to you.No you're not a failure instead it's nice to have you in here.I even didn't care if members in here is failuere or not, ignorant or not because my original intention for joining this forum is to help me for studying Quran because there is no Quranist Imam in here.

Fare thee well,
You imply that just because the Quran was revealed in Arabic the usage of God is limited to this language as well, ie by the name Allah. To God belongs all beautiful names no matter language. Call him any name as long it befits Him.
A word's meaning is what people intend for it to be. If God is God, then it is the same as Allah, and if you say it is the God of Jupiter, then it is Jupiter. Since there is in Islam only one God, it is simple and easy to conclude that God is sufficient for Him, no offense towards Him as He knows what is in our hearts.
If you say God, you mean God and He knows that. He knows what you reveal and what you conceal.
Call Him Master if you like. It is as good as calling him God. God has no name in that regard. He is simply all and everything. God is the One.
God allegedly told Moses according to the Old Testament "I am that I am". Despite being difficult to verify its authenticity, this expression could likely be true.
Humans, because of their weak nature, need a name to refer to God, but otherwise God needs no name. God is every thing. Allah is a Arabic reference. As long as we believe this one "force" or energy in the Universe is the ultimate power of all existence we are just fine.
God could have made us the same community all of us and we all spoke the same language, but God did not. That is why God did also not expect us all to exclusively refer to our God with the same name as the other community, particularly Allah.
Arabs are now as arrogant about their role in religion just as Jews were according to the Bible. Heritage could have its bonus, but this does not mean God cannot reappear in a different community with another Messenger. But history will most likely repeat itself... as usual.
God bless you

I agree with MOF and Yuliana.
(AH) is simply the Arabic designation for ?GOD?
A contraction of (al-'ilh, the god) by omission of ('i).But the merging of Al and Ilah into Allah has no rules in Classical Arab.
The word Allah is included in isim ghayru musytaq (word with no root origin and not a fraction from another words)
Plus this word cannot be changed to another form like jamak (plurar),dual (tasniyah).Allah is not masculine nor feminine word and it's devinetly a proper name. Not only proofed by grammar rules but also Quran verses (read my explanation in page 1).

Harmony be with thee,
Allah might be a proper name just as any family name which starts with "al" in the Arabian community.
In English a word is a name because you make it a proper noun by adding a capital letter to it. This means that God is a proper noun, because you capitalized it and thus made it a name.
Grammatically, "the God" is wrong, because you do not usually use a definite article for a proper noun. And why should you not treat God as a proper noun?
And even if you decapitalize God, it remains a proper noun and adding "the" to it makes it grammatically wrong. It is even wrong to not use a capital letter for God, as it is a name of a being.
However, talking about another being, then you may decapitalize it since it is no longer God you are talking about but Jupiter, Saturn or any other god you believe exists.
God is one, and hence there is only one God, there is no need to complicate the use of God by making it sound awkward and with lower-case letter and 'the' in front of the noun.
If you say 'God', He will know whom you are addressing.
God bless you

Harmony be with thee
Yes you're true if we capitalized the first letter of the word, the it will be a proper noun, but this is different cause Man of Faith, this is about rules in Arabic grammar.
If we translate "Allah" as God then why we aren't translate "Muhammad" as Commendable??
Muhammad in english means commendable, but in english translation it's still written as "Muhammad".Quran translation in many languages didn't translate "Allah" in to their language. In Indonsia the word Allah didn't translate into "Tuhan".It also happens to Swedish Quran translation (you can get it from http//se.quran.nu/).
If you didn't understant my explanation in the first page then just ask an Arabic scholar in your place for why we musn't translate Allah into another language.
God bless you.
-
Salaam,
God is universal.
Sectarian scholars, including Arabs don't translate Allah because they think Allah is the name of God for MuslimsTM.
Whilst Muhammad was just a human being.
Regards,
Yuliana -
Salaam Earthdom,
You ignore the fact that names are used differently in various languages. My name is Henrik and yet my name is Henry in English or Heinrich in German.
Muhammad is referred to as Muhammad because of conservatism and ease of reference.
You cannot compare God who is eternal and preceded languages with the use of names of mortals such as Muhammad and say because of this God must by the same pattern be called Allah.
The word Allah has no secondary meaning such as Muhammad. It is just literally "the god", although to make it grammatically correct we say God.
Allah is not the single definite name of God. He has no definite name but only used so that we may refer to Him. You can call upon Him using any name which befits Him. As I said, God is fundamentally nameless, but since we have he need lf referral then a name has to be used. Otherwise you can just call Him the One or whatever easy definition you would like.
The English people who are not brainwashed that they worship an exclusively Arabian God refer to God as God. Allah is still okay to use, but it means the same as God.
God bless you

Whilst Muhammad was just a human being.
SO according to you Muhammad wasn't translated because he just a human being,
Allah was translated because he is a GodThus your statement "because they think Allah is the name of God for Muslims"By said "they think" it indicated if they translate Quran with assumption.I dont think the translator will do this
This is fallacy in argumentum ad populum ;D.But just don't care about this, to me you can discussion with joking.
So far only english Quran translation which the word Allah had been translated.
Btw the benefit for not to translating that terms such like "Islam, muslim, Allah, Quran, etc" is to made the "identity" n "unity" among muslims, so muslim for around the world no matter ethnicity and countries, they still speak same word "Allah".
It's not about Arabization plus it's easy I think to pronounce that short word.I'm not an Arab but I'm not felt disturbing just for pronounce that word.
She looks like Angelina Jolie.
Therefore, she's not Angelina Jolie.
Maybe but usage of capital-uncapital letter in this premis is in different situation

Hello Aaleyah
God is God, whether u call Him God or Allah. I speak urdu or hindi so I say "Khuda" in my conversations because it is the translation of God in hindi or urdu.
But I think it is better to call "God" or "Lord" when we talk in english so that is doesn't sound like a "foreign cult god" to any one who listens because God is universal.
