Actually MY COMMON SENSE and LOGIC never reconciled with the meaning of DHARAB in the verse 434 as a PHYSICAL BEATING, but without any research on this subject it was status quo for me. Your brief informative work on this subject has clarified everything. Without going in details the most logical point in your article, which impressed me is that "VIOLENCE NEVER PRECEDES ARBITRATION" Islam never preaches violence, therefore the last resort in ANY matrimonial conflict is either mutual reconciliation, or mutual separation or DIVORCE through ARBITRATION. The BEATING is an innovation of the traditional Muslims .

I have a question about different views of interpreting the Quran. I know a lot here say that the Quran explains itself from other verses. for instance, to get the interpretation of nahar, daylight in 11.114 we can look in 91.1-3 to actually know what daylight is. Others extend the possibilities of choice of the actual word by refering to root-word dictionaries etc. and then look for different meanings by roots. for instance, 434 the word idribuhunna can mean strike, beat, set forth etc...
I have come to a very reflective period regarding this and i really wonder where the limit is set. I mainly think about 3.7 where God says that some people will get stuck on roots to extricate a certain meaning. But i also wonder if its correct to refer to that verse since we have actually have different choices. One word that really has a multiple meaning is ayat, which can mean sign, miracle and verse.

One word can only mean one thing in a concrete context, but have another meaning in another context. People think differently and therefore you have different interpretations.
Quran is the Guidance for Jinn and men in every situation of their breath, till their death. Allah Guides whom He pleases and chooses towards Him who look up to Him. Every word and sentences in an ayat is righteously applicable to any situation of every one's breath by the seconds in its fractions. A single ayat has general meaning and inherent countless meanings which if you try to write even the oceans of ink, seven times more of such oceans of ink will dry out; yet, The Words of Quran remain still glowing, showing the signs of life by Allah, till the end of the world, to each individual during all their testing times as long as they are to survive.
One verse of Quran does not contradict with another verse of Quran from sura 11 to 91, however remote they are; likewise one explanation of an ayat that serves as guidance to one believer does not contradict with the other innumerable explanations of billions of believers for the same single ayat, given their situations that continuously change by the time. If only we look up to Allah, we shall know unless Allah Guides, there is no Guidance from Quran. Gibreel will be your guide who speaks the Guidance of Allah through his Rooh.

Sorry, those translators even did not know what "beating" in English means and denotes. There is no such thing inbuilt in the Arabic Root unless so qualified.
