    Salam Brother ,

Its not about being not sure or ashamed to say i don't know but you'r intervention derived my subject , even if its related .

So yes i don't know , kindly tell me and tell the members how to determine the 1st ?

Peace, I too am in process of studying the subject and not sure; 1st what exactly, heat cycle, menstrual cycle, wind cycle, etc.?

2185 shr/cycle ramadan (i.e. heat cycle or summertime) the one descended in it the Qur?an
2234 ... should wait by themselves four ashr/cycles (menstrual)
3412 and to Solomon the wind early its shr/cycle (am tide due to moon) and late its shr/cycle (pm tide)

If you mean month; traditionalists chose random 1st sighting of moon crescent which rotates throughout the year.
Similarly, you used full-moon in stead of new moon, first crescent, half moon, no different than the lunar calendar.

Question; if one awakes on desert island with Qur'an and hadith books if you like; how to determine 1st month?

Ayman, gets around this by starting count 1st full-moon after summer solstice counts 12, sometimes drops 13th.
Others like to use 1st full-moon after winter solstice or do pretty much the same thing, dropping occasional 13th.

      Salam ,

      A modest opinion

      Here are some hints

To determine 1st month we should determine 1st day , and to determine 1st day we should determine 1st night , as night precede the day/light in term of creation .

Here are some events that happened during this night

      2829{ And when Moses had completed the term and was traveling with his family, he perceived from the direction of the mount a fire. He said to his family, "Stay here; indeed, I have perceived a fire. Perhaps I will bring you from there information or burning wood from the fire that you may warm yourselves. }

Hint Apparently it was a cold night , and Moses / Mssa (S) received the revelation this night .

      731 {O you who wraps himself }

      741 {O you who wrapped up (in the mantle)!}

Hint Apparently the messenger of allah was sleeping and was covering him self , which is a sign of cold weather , also surah 73 & 74 sounds that they were the first verses revealed to the messenger Muhammad (S) .

We are talking here about the prosperous night which is

      443 {Indeed, We sent it down during a prosperous night. Indeed, We were to warn .}
      443 { On that night is made distinct every wise affair}

There was and still a misconception about the concept of prosperity al-barakah , it is a prosperous night not a blessed night , the translation is wrong and misguiding .

So Connections should be made between Cold weather + prosperous night + every wise affair . This work is thoeric , then the connection should be done with real world .

      Hints
1- What is the real meaning of the concept of prosperity al-barakah which wrongly translated as blessing or blessed ?
      2- What makes a night prosperous ?
3- What else is described as prosperous in the quran ?

      Lets study together.

I have been reading about this topic recently, but not really studying it, but in any case, it seems to me that whatever way you slice it you need some reference point.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

The god gives us the marker from where to start counting. This is is given in passage 1712, which talks about knowing the number years from the day and night. The only way we can know the years based on the day and night is if we take it as the time between shortest/longest day/night since each solstice event occurs only once per year. On the other hand, we cannot use the equinoxes to count the year since equinoxes occur twice per year and it is only half a year between equinoxes.

Given the meanin of "ramadan" as "scorching" and "the time when the sand is hot and the SHADOW is PERPENDICULAR", then the summer solstice is clearly more logical than the winter solstice.

Add to this the fact that the four full moons after the summer solstice are harvest moons for most fruits and vegetables, with the biggest harvest (biggest hagg - &#1585 being the fourth full-moon. This fourth harvest full-moon after the summer solstice also coincides precisely with Hagg Sukkot, the Jewish harvest festival where food is shared and given freely to the poor (exactly the same purpose of "hagg" in the great reading).

This is so far the best understanding that resolves the timing of "the scorching full-moon" and "the inviolable full-moons" and the timing for the feast/hagg effortlessly all in one consistent solution and connects them beautifully.

          Peace,

          Ayman

I agree that the above is reasonable.

              Salam Wakas ;

The day of greater pilgrimage is the first day of the four restricted months based on the analysis of 91 , 92 , 93 , 94 and 95

This is my analysis for comparison and convergence between us regarding when is the day of grater pilgrimage ?

              http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=9603865

**When is "the day of the greater pilgrimage" ?

The Quran tell us that pilgrimage is to be done in some known months

2197 The Pilgrimage months are made known. So whoever decides to perform the Pilgrimage therein, then there shall be no sexual approach, nor wickedness, nor baseless argument in the Pilgrimage.

The known months of pilgrimage are the four restricted months

              936 The count of the months with God is twelve months in the book of God the day He created the heavens and the earth; four of them are restricted. This is the correct system; so do not wrong yourselves in them;

**The day of the greater pilgrimage is the first day of this four months , why ?

the proclamation that "allah" and his messenger are innocent from the polytheists is to be announced clearly to them in that day of greater pilgrimage , there is a declaration before that proclamation stated in the previous verses and another declaration stated after that witch indicate the location of the day of the greater pilgrimage

91 A revocation is made by God and His messenger to those with whom you have made a pledge from among the polytheists.
92 "Therefore, roam the land for four months and know that you will not escape God, and that God will humiliate the rejecters."
93 And a proclamation from God and His messenger to the people on the day of the greater Pilgrimage "That God and His messenger are innocent from the polytheists." If you repent, then it is better for you, and if you turn away, then know that you will not escape God. And give news to those who have rejected of a painful retribution.
94 Except for those with whom you had made a pledge from among the polytheists if they did not reduce anything from it nor did they support anyone against you; you shall continue the pledge with them until its expiry. God loves the righteous.
95 So when the restricted months have passed, then you may kill the polytheists wherever you find them, and take them, and surround them, and stand against them at every point. If they repent, and they hold the contact prayer, and they contribute towards purification, then you shall leave them alone. God is Forgiving, Merciful.

In that day of greater pilgrimage a proclamation will be announced to the polytheists that "allah" and his messenger are innocent from them AND the polytheist shall 92 "Therefore, roam the land for four months these four months are the four known restricted months of pilgrimage 95 So when the restricted months have passed, then you may kill the polytheists wherever you find them.

That's mean if they roam the land for four months from the day it was announced that's mean this day is the first day of this four months , and these months are the restricted months known for pilgrimage this mean that the day of starting roaming the land for the polytheists is the day of the greater pilgrimage when this statement ( roam the land for four months ) is to be announced along with And a proclamation from God and His messenger to the people on the day of the greater Pilgrimage "That God and His messenger are innocent from the polytheists."

What makes that day a " day of greater pilgrimage" is because there will be attended by a mass of people , it seems logic as it is a sort of inauguration day .

2227 (And announce to the people the Hajj ; they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel; they will come from every distant pass )

And then of course pilgrimage can take place during all the four restricted months

                  Peace!

                  Prepare for Vibrational Download

No need to drop 13 or make 13.

The year defined by The God is 12 lunations per solar orbital period. The degree of variation is natural and desired, desired by One Mighty in Power, Supremely Wise. Without this variation there would be no change to the day. Every day would be the same day, same weather, same crap. So thank your God that there is variation.

Rather, people must yield to The God, The Supreme, the Designer.

To reinvent the entire system to realign with the true way of Beingness. Observe your subconscious mind. "But if we do this, then the people will blah blah blah". Where does this come from?

The idea of 13 is destroying the climate, killing the creatures, absolutely murdering and ravaging the Earth. Can you hear her cries? 13 is the unlucky number, wonder why? Because 12 is Perfect.

Fundamentally you wish to begin the calendar in intervals of half-cycles; this is a Year. Then we get the Solar Year as two Cycles/Seasons.

So we do not have "The New Year"
                  We do have
The first month of the Warm Season
The first month of the Cool Season

                  Or we may say
The first month of the Warming Season
The first month of the Cooling Season

They ask thee, of new moons, say They are fixed seasons for mankind and for the pilgrimage. It is not righteousness that ye go to houses by the backs thereof (as do the idolaters at certain seasons), but the righteous man is he who wardeth off (evil). So go to houses by the gates thereof, and observe your duty to AlLah/The God/TheClearLight/TheTruth that you may be successful.
2189 - Al Baqarah (The Cow)

First month of each, we have room to vary. 4 points of geometry

So there is no need to even bother with "one year". Instead focus on half year. The Earth has two hemispheres. One Year did not ever exist and never will. However, Two Half-Years does exist.

The Geometric Universe The Platonic Forms, Hilbert Space, whatever you wish to call it - the Book of Life. All geometric. No fancy of man, the fancy of man is embedded within the geometry and certainly not the other way round. Or as Eckhart Tolle would say, "We are not what we think we are, we Are what we think"

Contemplate. Earth is a spaceship. It is moving against the backdrop of the stars and I used to curse but perhaps today I may have to swear -X. And now we shall venture into General Relativity and geodesic curvature. You already know it like the back of your hand so leave behind your excuses and use your Reason?

Due to special relativity, the half-year of the lower hemisphere of Earth is of different length to the half-year of the upper hemisphere. But the length of this depends on who is watching. One thing is always for sure, You, You are watching. Who are You?

                    Peace IAMOP,

13 unlucky are phobias, no 13th floor in builds or Friday 13th.
Year with 13 full moons was problematic for those in authority in charge of calendars.
13 menstrual cycles year; women ovulated together on full moon and bled during new moon.
Knights Templar Fri Oct 13, 1307 King of France ordered their arrest, tortured, and burnt some.

Anyways, it?s irrelevant; one can spin it as lucky/unlucky or even find a code 13 in Quran, no big deal.

Again the question one awakes in the desert or remote island -- how to determine 1st or start count?

Likewise need to define exact meaning

shr (cycle lunar, menstrual, wind, other use context?)

                    ramadan (lunar/heat cycle, other?)

                    aam (lunar/solar year, other?)

snyn (lunar/solar years, seasons, or something else?)

snh (lunar/solar year, age, time, or something else?)

1247 said thou cultivating seven snyn/seasons as usual so what harvest you so leave it in ears its except little from what thou eating 1248 furthermore comes from after such seven severe consuming what advanced you of them except little from what thou storing 1249 furthermore comes from after such aam/year in it given relief the humankind and in it shall pressing (wine)

2914 and surely sent we Noah to folk his so waited among them thousand snh/age except fifty aama/year(s) of so seized them the flood and they were unjustly

4615 and enjoined we the human with parents his kindness carried him mother his unwillingly and gave birth him unwillingly and carried him and separation his thirty shra/cycle of until when reached peak his and reached forty snh/age said lord grant me that I thank grace yours the one blessed thou to me and on parents mine and that do work righteous of which please you and correct for me in offspring mine that I perish to you and that I from the peacemakers

                        12 is a good number.

Peace Man of Faith, there's nothing good or evil about any number.

                        Now back to the topic.

Was observing the full moon tonight and it became very clear.
It is not 12 each solar year and nowhere mentioned in Qur'an.

936 surely count al-shwr/the lunar cycles near the god two ten (i.e. twelve) shra/lunar cycle of in book the god day creation the heavens and the earth from it four prohibited such the practice the value so not wrong yeh in them souls yours and fight yeh the idolaters all as what they fight you all and know yeh that the god with the righteous

105 he the one made the sun illuminate and the moon a light and calculated it (masculine i.e. moon) phases to know yeh number al-snyn/the seasons and the account not create the god such except in the truth expounds the signs for folk knowing

1712 and made we the night and the daylight two signs so erased we sign the night and made we sign the daylight visible that may seek yeh bounty from lord yours and know yeh number al-snyn/the seasons and the account and every thing explained we it detailed

The question if one awakes on remote island/desert scenario; it's simple...

Peace, yes perhaps in context of nice number as in paycheck. )

Hope everyone understood post above in that the lunar cycles to know time (e.g. lunar months, years) which vary at any day or lunar phase run separate i.e. 12 in lunar year don't have to correlate exactly to prohibited lunar cycles which they are always the first 4 after the summer solstice easily determined anywhere in the world even after waking from a deep sleep on a remote deserted island; no need to ask anyone when exactly is ramadan (lunar cycle of heat), hajj, prohibited cycles/period, etc.

936 surely count al-shwr/the lunar cycles near the god two ten (i.e. twelve) shra/lunar cycle of in book the god day creation the heavens and the earth from it four prohibited...

                              Peace brother Wakas,

                              However, I disagree with
                              See http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=9605648.0

This seems to confirm that the "biggest feast" is the fourth one

                              1. An acquittal/release from The God and His messenger to those with whom you made a treaty from among the polytheists.
                              2. Therefore, roam the earth for FOUR full-moons and know that you will not escape The God, and that The God will disgrace the ungrateful/rejecters.

So we are now at the fourth full-moon, where the biggest feast takes place

                              1. And an announcement from The God and His messenger to the people on the greatest day of the feast "The God is quit/free from the polytheists and so is His messenger". If you repent, then it is better for you, and if you turn away, then know that you will not escape The God. And give news to those who conceal/reject of a painful retribution.
                              2. Except for those with whom you had a treaty from among the polytheists if they did not reduce anything from it nor did they plan to attack you; you shall continue the treaty with them until its expiry. Truly, The God loves the forethoughtful/conscientious.

Remember that the waning crescent times the end of the period of the feast and the restriction (the 10 day period). So the following passage talks about the passing that includes the end of the restricted period, 10 days later after the day of the bigggest feast

                              1. So when the inviolable full-moons are passed, then you may fight the polytheists wherever you find them, and take them, and surround them, and stand against them at every point. If they repent, and uphold/maintain the salat and bring forth the betterment, then clear/vacate their way/path. Truly, The God is Turning/Forgiving, Embracing/Merciful.

What do you make of 2217, see http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=9188.msg333873#msg333873

2217 talks about the period spanning the four inviolable full-moons (fighting in them). While in 2185, the full-moon is talked about as a marker (fast it or according to it).

                              Peace,

                              Ayman

                                peace brother Ayman,

I understand your explanation but in 2217 it is singular.

2217 asks about the inviolable shahr/full-moon is there fighting in it

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

Peace Wakas, yes and how "in it" can refer to single full-moon?

2217 they asking you about al-shr/the lunar cycle (singular) the haraam/prohibited fight in it say fight in it immense...

Thanks for reminding me and correcting my mistake. You are correct it is singular. It is probably talking about the first inviolable full moon. If it is the first inviolable full moon, then "in it" would indicate in the period marked to begin according to it.

                                    Peace,

                                    Ayman

even in singular form of 2-217, it can be a generic expression for each shahr haram
I think that hajj akbar of 9-3 is probably the ramadan one who can fall (or falled once) with the "shahr" better than 1000 shahr

                                      Peace

                                        Salam Noshirk,

Correct in your understanding , al-shahr al-haram ( inviolable month ) in 2217 even in singular form it's pointing to the four inviolable months not only one month , this form and meaning is similar to the word al-malak singular of al-malaayikah (plural ) the singular form is used in 6917 and 8922 but it still mean al-malayika as a group , there is another similar form or way when the plural meaning is understood through the singular form in arabic you can see that in the word as al-maskyin the singular of al-masaakyin ( plural ) , the singular form is used in 1073 and 7444 and 6934 but it is evident that the talk in that verse is not talking about one singular ,particular maskyin (1 poor man ) but instead it mean the poor men's in general ( any poor man ) this form and meaning is similar to the form and meaning of al-shahr al-haram ( the inviolable month ) in 2217 , the meaning is all the inviolable months

                                        Salam
